Well ive read the tuts on sanding and then the oven cleaner but there is a mucheasier method!

1) Take the top of your case off (Voiding your warranty

2) Take off the heat sheet on it by bending the clips holding it on

3) Tak a hairdryer/blowdryer then apply heat on the back till VERY warm to touch Not to hot then slipa nail file or something flat and small to pry off the jewel

4) Let it cool down for a minute try to remove as much of the adheacive as possible

5) Get a sheet of alluminum foil and wrap your jewel up tightley in it

6) place in yur prefered cup/jar

7) Get diet coke (or your prefered cola product) the chepsoda's usually work best except diet coke own rules them all and poor it in the jar

8) let set for 30 minutes

9) peel off the foil (if there is any left) and your puke green should be gone!

10) Done and Done!!! (You may repeat step 7 if all green is not gone)

Hmmm interesting......why the tin foil?.....The last 2 jewels I tried to clean I ended up splitting them in half by pressing to hard grr.gif gonna have to give this a try
Squiggle2
The tin foil helps eat off the paint (if you have rusted rims this works as well)
The_Hushed_Casket
Hmmm. I've heard of this for removing rust, but I never knew it could remove paint. Interesting.

I fail to see why it wouldn't. Just put some paste of some sort in them like vasoline and put them in the letters. I think that would stop the soda from getting into the letters.
blue bandicoot
cool method, ill try it out....
jaygould30
I would really like to (1.) get more of a consensus that this actually works. (2.) see some pictures of the results.
DsAdvocate
Hey...'Bout to try this myself. To kind of assure myself of the lettering, I've put super glue in the indents. Two dried layers, of course. I'll post an update and picture whether it works or not in about 35-40 minutes.

Thank you I would much appreciate the pics. smile.gif

Please will someone post pictures of there results. I want to see how well this actually works if it even does work.

Green as ever. I think it may be because I used Diet Mountain Dew, but that's only because I ONLY have that right now.
jaygould30
Well honestly I don't think this would work. The logic behind it doesn't add up to me thats why I want proof. I will go ask my father if it makes sense to him because he is a chemist.

EDIT: I asked him and he said that cola can dissolve paint because of the carbonate. He said for instance if you chake up a can of soda and spray it on your car it will ruin the paint. Also he said that the only reason he could understand the aluminum is it could act as a catalyst (speads up the reaction) for certain paints. So he basically said it COULD work but it depends.

So what I want to know is anyone who has got it to work what cola did you use and tell us everything that you did to get it to work. Even what type of aluminum foil.

well i can beleive this, coca cola will clean your coins (money) so its pretty nice and shiny.

i can definitely see that it could do this.
jaygould30
Well like I said my father told me it might and he knows better. Now the real reason I asked if anyone got it to work is I used diet cola on a brand new jewel last night. Stayed up for some time trying to get it to work and nothing happened. Soooo I don't know. I don't want to saw no this method doesn't work cause somethign might have went wrong for me. Instead I would like to see the original poster come back and answer some questions about this. thats great that you can see it working but as I stated I tried as the original poster said and I can't see it working because it simple didn't work for my eyes to see. So far I know it didn't work for me and now someone else posts a picture saying it didn't work for them. All I have to go on right now is a theory that someone says works and what someone else said who doesn't have a camera to prove it.
eminvil_12
Try normal coca cola or something.
Ill try this later on 3 jewells all with different coke or something and tell you the results.

Sounds good but just for the record the reason I stayed up so late doing it was because I actually did try both regular coke and diet coke. Same results with both. I really hope this does work because it would just make things that much easier.
Squiggle2
Ok well I broke mine in half polishing it after scrapign with cail polish and a white cloth but it didnt come of to much but anywayws the 2 pieces ar soaking in 2 different kidns of soda I should have pics in about 2 hours (When my cam gets home)
ckpcw
I'll take this opportunity to put all that nasty diet coke I have laying around to use...

Brand new jewel, did a half-ass job of getting the adhesive off (still a bunch on there).. soakin now

I'll post pics.

EDIT: I wrapped one half of the jewel with the SHINY foil side in, the other with the duller side in... so we'll get to see if that has any effect.

EDIT 2: Yeah... After 30 min, took it out, and still green because no diet coke got inside.. wrapping it a bit looser now.
Squiggle2
You want to use as little tin foil as possible if you want QUICk results (meaning you migth ahve to polish afterwards) jsut let it soak in diet coke with no covering
jaygould30
NOw see no aluminum would make more sense to me. To bad I don't have any left now. Looking forward to hearing more about this. Keep the info coming.
ckpcw
Alright.. it didn't work for me. Although, the second time I did it (with a small amount of looser foil) the diet coke was a little flat. I'm gonna burn another of these suckers with NO foil and see what happens.
potato10
wow this is a very odd way of doing it.also very lazy way. because you open a diet coke pop it in there. drink a coke take it out. just a thought. um well someguy used diet mountain dew. i dont know why but what if you added like red would it blend to amke it a different color or what????that could be really cool.
ckpcw
blah.. tried NO foil and still no dice using Diet Coke.

As a note: It is a 1.6 Jewel with the Samsung RAM and Xcalibur vid chip. Also, I think that the jewel's dash was automatically updated last time I got on live... so that might have something to do with it...
tongue.gif

Back to Brasso for me!
eminvil_12
OK

I tried
-Coke
-Diet Coke
-Household Bleach

The coke products had no effect with or without foil for around 2 hours each.

Whereas the bleach only took the silver off the jewell and left all the green.
Would definitely recommend this if you only want the lettering out of the jewell.

now i dont see how 1 diet coke could be different to another.

Therefore this method must be false
rockrerun
okay, I tried it. Soaked it in coke for 45 min with foil, and again without. Nothing. It didn't even soften the paint.
