Ok, my plan is making a LED Ring around the jewel area like this: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/jewel-leds.php
and I wanna attach a switch so that I can switch the LEDs on and off, does anyone know where i can buy a switch that i can easily hook up to the wiring that i have done as exactly done in the tutorial?

Help would be good for a N00b tongue.gif
Thanks

I'd look at an electronics component store, and if noone else from australia answers this, I'd personally read up a bit at www.dansdata.com as he's into circuits, and probably has a reference to a suitable store down under. What you need I believe is called a SPST, or single pole single throw switch. You don't want a momentary switch, which is the type that you have on your computer to turn it on/of, which would close the circuit temporarily. An example of the SPST switch can be found here. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...t&f=24&t=483377 or http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...oductId=2062497

I haven't had any electronics training, so if I'm way off, someone let us know wink.gif

Good luck!

Thanks Mate, I'll do my research, Cheers biggrin.gif

yes you would need a spst switch. hook up is easy, first off all the switches i have ever worked with have three connections, yours may be different. all you need to do is have the incoming power to the outter lead on the switch and out going to the leds and if you have a third... well do nothing with it. unless its a lighted switch and you want it to light when its on then you hook power to that as well.

Thanks heaps, going down to Dick Smith to see if i can find one, Cheers

kk guys, purchased a SPST Switch today at good old Dick Smith Electronics. And its one big ass switch...only one they had at DSE Super Store in highpoint: http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefro...duct/View/P7666 I tested it with 1 led and got it working, so it defiantly works (thank you sting369 and XtuRmN8r for the brief info biggrin.gif )
But while I was there I bought this: http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefro...duct/View/T4853 I was so glad i finally found somthing to cut out a dvd window with, I recommend this to anyone who lives in australia, $20 mate. Also bought some wire and resistors but not LEDs cause they are the shitest quality. Im gonna buy LEDs from www.ledshoppe.com does anyone have any experiance with this company?

beerchug.gif thank you very much.

UPDATE** I cut my DVD Window and sanded it with the bits from Dick Smith and it looks excellent, the only problem i have is cutting the metal casing that covers the tray, as the bits i bought from DS are not strong enough with a normal cordless drill, should i think about a electric dril? or maybe even a jig saw?? dunno, what did u guys that have dvd windows use?
Cheers, Sam
smiffy1989
why not just take the metal shielding out all together? wink.gif
samfisher440
lol, because the dvd has to be held in by the spindel at the top, otherwise the disc will just spin right off the disc tray. Anyway, I ended up cutting the metal cover today with a pair of metal cutters, an angle grinder, an electric sander, and lots of help from my stepdad biggrin.gif
Heres some pics (sorry 56kers, lowest picture size on my camera and photoshop is stuffed up):

I don't know if you're still interested, but if you can find a car stereo shop that installs car alarms, you might wanna check there too. I used to install car alarms for this one place, and we always had space little toggle switches laying around that we didn't need. All you's have to do it wire it in line with the power of the LEDs, and it'll turn on or off the entire chain of LED's
