DHCP servers doesn't implement Time Service, SNTP servers does, and AVA has this option built-in already since day 1, I think.

after uploading a new prog/game useing QWIX to XBOX, the now program does not show up in menu.

I would suggest a FTP command that rescanned XBOX for new menu-items.

thnx

BTW: willl santa bring a new version of Avalaunch ?

thnx again (for the great software)

I would like a menu option to save the APOD picture of the day... On some days there is a picture that is REALLY cool... Iguess I can load up my PC, connect to the APOD site, click on the image, save it to my computer, etc,etc.. but an option to click "SAVE APOD" which would copy the apod file to a different directory would be neat.

...include the nexgen sources and make everything 3D! smile.gif

well that would be uberleet, but a hell of a work. but anyways. it is my proposal for a future release.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned,
but why not use Avalaunch to manage (download)
.iso's that are on the network (ftp / samba?).

I find I'm constantly moving games on and off
of the xbox HDD to make room for new ones.
It would be awsome to be able to download / extract
an ISO off of the network via Avalaunch. Perhaps even make
it somewhat transparent to the user. So
when he/she goes into the games menu certian
games would be Available - but would be downloaded
on demand. This would be an awsome feature
given that some games are played very rarely
and are best kept on a network share for later use.

The net result would make
the size of your HD less relivant so long as you
have a fast network and some storage to hold
the ISO's. No more running to the PC , firing
up Qwix and uploading / extracting the iso.
thejt
A few things I think would be nice to have:

System variables: HDD temp, CPU temp, M/B temp, drive space, nickname and whatnot. Even tho some ava team guy says its never gonna happen, I think that is completely the wrong stance. Why not have the most options available when it comes to skinning. Not everyone wants to have to go to a menu or file manager to see free space or temps.

12 hr clock Again biggrin.gif

Menu options for shoutcast - ability to switch stream via menu.
Ability to stop audio stream.

More compliant FTP.. Sure xbox to xbox and qwix is GREAT!! But, other FTP apps are inconsistent. Disconnect is wacky and transfer rates arent so great.

Configable FTP password Again wink.gif

Awsome dash so far tho guys.. Really kicks ass!

- I've never liked the sorting options in the dashboards, maybe I've missed something but I want to: Have a dynamically produced Games menu, with subfolders for things like Emulators and HomeBrew grouped at the bottom. My problem is that I prefer to have all the official XBOX games in the Games menu without putting them in yet another submenu.

- Dynamic fan speed based upon temperature measurements. This doesn't need to be checked every second and I know that it will only be dynamic when the dash is running, but it would be great if after playing an intense game and returning to the dash if the fan speed would increase to cool off the box quickly. The "dynamic" settings could be something in the config file where we could set levels that would increase the speed. Maybe just Red, Yellow, and Green settings that each have threshold and fan speed, maybe also Eject LED color change...

- FTP Server log file

- Skinning objects to display the status of the FTP Server, users connected, current operation, etc...

- Menu control of dashboard features (start, stop, disable, enable, refresh as standard options for all the features - start/stop is current function while enable/disable is for future reboots):
- randomize, don't randomize, save the APOD
- increase or decrease # of users supported on FTP Server, this would allow lowering the setting to 0 users so no new users could connect, but leave the currently connected users.
- change source and get next news feed
- select a new Shoutcast stream

- Having a menu option to rescan the file system in order to present a new game or application without restarting, to reload the icons, rescan the DVD drive, etc...

- Complete ability to modify all the Settings without manually editing the XML.

:-)

Icon usage:

I think it would be slick to be able to apply icons to <list names>. It just bugs me that when I look at my menu some things have icon thumbnails and others dont based on whether its a targeted .xbe or just a list name.

Also the ability to toggle whether or not the left of the menu thumbnail is displayed would be nice. I know you can toggle icons all together but it would be nice to be able to turn off just the thumbnail and leave the rotating/large icon on.

*edit*
Now that I have been using ava for a while and played with it more ive generated a strong opinion about something. IMO the thumbnail icon left of the menu text is not only redundant if you have the large icons but they are not rocognizable either. I have a big screen HDTV and still cant really make the more detailed icons out (other than the fact that I already know what they are). My above suggestion would be ok to get rid of them but one point I would like to add would be, re-alignment of the menu text if no thumbnail is selected, making the menu text left justified in the box giving you more room for Title text.
thejt
Seperate fonts for status bar, news feed and menu would be nice as well.

-An option in the file manager to mark/unmark all files/folders (like in boxplorer) would be very useful.

-Also an option to see the size of a dir (Like "Calculate used space" in boxplorer).

-When copying files with more than 42 characters from DVD to HDD an option to rename the files or to skip transfer would be nice.

DC

Yeah, I know QUIX does it, But I'm lazy !

The Game Managment section on QUIX is great, but can it be added to the Avalaunch Dash?

That way, games can be kept on a network share and you can add and delete whenever the need takes you.

Oh and Free HDD space with an ERROR if not enough rather than just copying until the HDD is full and giving NO errors.
chevi
In File manager it would be usefull to use Y button to mark/unmark files/folders so to erase some folders we donīt have to make it one by one

When renaming files, the right thumbstick could be used to move thtough the name of the file so we donīt have to delete the .xbe, change name and write .xbe again

thanks for your hard work smile.gif

I want Supporting WMA music.
And I think that Supporting MS dash jukebox(E:Tdata/fffe0000) is the best smile.gif
AlCapone
>>I want Supporting WMA music

I would call that a waste of time,
that is, supporting a crappy, DRM infected, propietary protocol you never can trust.
KanadaKid
What about a quick Copy Disk option. Something like in UnleashX, in the file manager menu. One that bases the folder name from the xbe title.

And like a few others mentioned, the ability to check the size on a folder or multiple folders (ala boxplorer "Check Used Space").

>>I want Supporting WMA music

What you dont realize is that a ton of xbox users already have large wma music collections uploaded to thier xbox. Other dash's such as the original MS dash/ Hacked dash, MXM, and UnleashX, all utilize the internal WMA soundtracks already stored on the xbox. There is more than one reason for wanting this feature. You will be able to streamline things, these soundtracks are not only listened to in the dash, but also listened to in games. Why have 2 seperate music collections taking up double the space? Besides, there is much less compression and artifacting ripping with 128k WMA than there is 128k mp3 codecs from an original source (not mp3 to wma conversion). Doesnt make much sense, although it does make sense to have mp3 capability. Perhaps a dual option would be appropriate.
zerovandez
How about...video skins like in MXM?! If that were to be developed...it'd be the shit!
xionanx
Although it is stated on the first page of this topic that they won't implement WMA, it does make sense to me to at least support it for those who don't want to waste HD space on MP3's that can't be played by games.

Another suggestion that I see is these forums that I think would be a great idea is file sharing. Although I don't necessarily believe it should be a feature built into AVA. I think it would be better to write a stand alone app that people could run to "share" their apps via the xbox, NO PC INVOLVED. Set it up similar to emule or overnet, with some torrent thrown in. (I'm invisioning a list of apps maintained by their authors/trusted sources. Users would select the app they want installed and it would D/L torrent style to their xbox, then unzip in the appropirate directory. Using this method would PREVENT game sharing, and faked/modified apps.) As an xbox only community, everyone "should" have broadband connections, so that will eliminate a lot of the slow connection issues of other PC file sharing services. It would greatly reduce the dependency on xbins, and could help a lot of the other suggestions about "auto downloading/installing apps" .

I would also like to point out that some of the "Good Ideas" need to be moved to "Suggestions that we have implemented" For instance:

**Some Utility To Import Your Own Skins For AvaLaunch
**using own screenshots or videos for game icons
** ISO 9660 Fat System support in the File Browser. (I'm fairly positive this has been implemented)
** A Built In Online Gaming App That Will Support The Commonly Used X-Box Live Gaming HeadSet. (IP Phone isn't really a "Gaming app", but it is built in and supports the XBOX communicator)

And other features should be moved to a new section called "Bad Ideas". Things like:

** In Game Reset Triggers. (anyone not using an executor bios with ava is just being silly, and IGR has done nothing but cause problems for evox users)

Anyway, keep up the good work guys!
AlCapone
Please add a FTP command that would make it possible to "remote control" Avalaunch to execute an .XBE
(for use with home automation)

thnx
Ed_209
Not sure if the ava team is even reading any of these hundreds of suggestions...but I would REALLY like to see an "xbox game saves manager" where you can easily see what gamesaves you have AND the ability to trade gamesaves to other xboxes through FTP. I have two xboxes and it would be great to be able to easily send gamesaves to my other xbox without having to dig through the E:TDATA/E:UDATA folders manually. Would it be possible to show the gamename/gameicon by each gamesave similar to the original m$ dash?

Also, I like the suggestion of supporting WMA music from the original m$ dashboard wma directory. I mod xboxes for friends who don't have computers, so they don't have the ability to download mp3s and upload them to their xbox. But they do know how to use the original m$ dash to rip their music cds themselves. Avalaunch seems to be focused on simplicity and ease of use, having dashboard ripped music as it's focus for music makes more sense. Plus all xboxes have the same identical wma folder so it would also make sense to at least include that in the playlist by default along with whatever mp3/wma directory you wish to add.

And one last thing that I would make this dash the best...I really like the ORB 3d sphere look that unleashx has and it would be really cool to support moving 3d backgrounds, transparant textures, the ability to move the placement of the text etc. Yeah I know you don't want to focus on the skinning ability just yet...but the functionality side of avalaunch has all ready exceeded our expectations, now would be a good time to start making it LOOK really good.

This dashboard is mainly my favorite for it's awesome xbox to xbox ftp ability and boost mode/qwix support. Thanks for making such an awesome dash beerchug.gif

only 1 thing, the only thing thats holding me back to upgrade from evolutionX

Yo... helllloooooooo Avalaunch Team!

Congrats on the sick dashboard and all the good work gone into it!

my suggestion...

u have made it able to change light colours for the eject LED.... but how bout making a sequence where it constantly changes?... like... Red, Green, Orange, really quickly... (just when ur in the dash or something)..... i think that'll be sick tongue.gif... just to show off the box / avalaunch to all my mates who still use the noobie Evox tongue.gif
UltraVires
I dont know if this has been mentioned before, but how about a random skin loader everytime u boot up the xbox this way its always a different picture.
ThreeEyedFish
I know this might be too much to ask for, but maybe after you've added all possible features you'll consider this one:

SCRIPTS

It would be nice to have the ability to make scripts. By making a text file containing the script, uploading it to a scripts folder and running it from AVA. (Or even better, editing it in a xbox-text-editor, but that's another request).
Scripts can include basic file management commands (copy, del, ren, move, launch, makedir etc.), basic conditioning (If file_exists, onKeyPress(key), etc.), and some interfacing (writeln, prompt, etc.). In the future you can add more advanced options.

I know it's HUGE request but i think once it's there we'll see some people's scripts that would make our life much nicer.

+++ BTW, AVA Rocks keep up the exellent work. +++

Downloading from IRC to the F: drive would be nice
pcween
i'd like the skin-download to check if i already have the skin before downloading it. a message like "skin already present on your hard disk" would be nice, instead of downloading a 2nd time.
dr.no
some kind of volume-adjustment for the BGmusic would be very useful as my mp3s sound too silent on avalaunch.
aladdin64
Hello, i have a couple of skinning idea's that would help us work faster and maybe make the skins a bit easier to distribute.
First off, instead of every icon-file being called avalaunch_icon.png, d'you think if would be possible to set it to avalaunch_icon_*.png so that we still can have different names on them? When distributing our skins it would be easier if the end user could look at the file name and then put it in the right dir. Like avalaunch_icon_XBMC.png, avalaunch_icon_xToolBox.png etc..

I have another question for you: Is there a way to put icons on folders? Like if I want a folder-icon for the Apps-dir i.e? Just putting a avalaunch_icon.png in the root-dir doesnt seem to work...

And last but not least, is there a way to put an icon on your internal programs, like Telnet, IRC-client and File Commander? Since they don't have ordinary dir's, maybe there's a way to give them icons from the XML file?

Thanks for a great program, i'll post screens of my skin tomorrow!

/Aladdin64 <-- d'you need more?

1. U guys have IP Phone, why not a IP Messeger, where its an option like IRC, u click it, and it shows the messege boxes of messeges and stuff like dat, it would connect to IP and display the xbox's nickname and then press B to be able to go back to the dash to do whatever u were doing, and at the bottom of the main dash, where thes empty space, it alerts you that theres a new messege, i think dat would rock, and maybe be better then the IP Phone, kuz i dont have a headset.....but do have a keyboard! smile.gif

2. just more skinning options......

3. a Text editor to edit the xmls and stuff.

good job ava team, keep on the work.
dr.no
maybe inclusion of miranda? ICQ? whatever?

oh and please add the black, white, start and select-button to the launch-on-startup-list.

keep up the good work! thanks!

I'd like to be able to store several IRC servers in a list. Sometimes I have to try two or three diferent servers before I can get connected and it would be nice to be a able to select a server from a list rather than type in the server name every time.
Chicken Scratch Boy
i think some sort of automated slim down of backups made by ava whould be cool first just delete the dashupdater automaticly as you wont be needing that.. then you can set it to rip out just that and the intros, or ALL uneeded files. it could also put in a dummy 1 second video file if nessesary

i guess the database could be stored in an xml hash, which you could download manually or the dash could check every time you try to backup a game or just one it doesnt recognize.

i'd be glad to help with the database if this idea takes off
AlCapone
QWIX suggestion:

please make it support RAR
-extract ISO from RAR + upload
and
Dump to ISO and compress it. (or create ISO directly thru RAR)

- thank you for this fine tool.

When you put a dvd in the drive an icon comes up on the screen. All you have to do is click on the icon to launch the movie or game.

My wishlist..

FILE MANAGER:
1) Ability to highlight / select multiple files for operations.
2) Use shoulder buttons to select left / right panes (ala XB-FTP).
3) Can play MP3's by selecting them in the Filemananger.
4) Filenames too long for panes will scroll (ala XBMP) not overlap.

Mp3's or shoutcast fade out before launching would be a nice touch.

And finally, my monthly plea for a basic text editor.

Thanks for our excellent free dash guys.

would it be possible to download the shoutcast server list, then be able to choose a station to play from that list? it's great that we can make a list and cycle through it, but it would be nice to try new ones easier without having to enter them.
