How much does it cost? I will have to grab the demo. I like marble madness and major nelson said it was along those lines.

31 mb is pretty hefty, but so is 800 points. I think that's like $10... I hope it's a good game for that price. I payed that for bejewelled (for my wife) and I think it was too much for such a simple game that you can play on the internet.

Your a marble that rolls around, collecting different stuff trying to reach the end of the level. To totally understand it you would have had to play marble madness for nes. Fun game. This one is ok so far. The beginer levels are pretty easy so far

Seems to have a rather annoying tic stutter bug that blips the image randomly all the time. No use boasting with some fancy shaders if you cant even sync to the framerate. Seems like a fun game but also the first embarrasment what comes to arcade games and their functionality.

Rotate the camera in any map, stutters and tics. It's Quake4 with a marble ball! No seriously thats a really bad thing to have for a game that requires smooth mechanical precision. And I played super monkey ball quite alot so I like this sort of game.
This is at SD NTSC widescreen/normal, I'll try HD in a moment.
even the main menu screen lines floating in the background stutter... which would be fine ifnot the ingame having similar though random stutter. edit2: go to marble appearance and the marbles stutter like hell falling and moving on the board

EDIT3: Found the reason. As soon as I log out of live the stuttering ingame stops? Hmmmmmhh?
So if
anybody else could please try to see if they get stutter when logged in & ethernet cable plugged in (I plug out the cable = stutter stops).I really want to play this game but not with the nauseating stutter.

Im using a normal 480 tv for now but I dont get any tics moving the camera. Maby re-download it? I just bought the full version so not sure about the demo if thats what your using. Anyone else get this?

Jan 26 2006, 12:38 AM
I don't have any framerate issues or "ticking"...
As far as I'm concerned, the game is pretty cool. I'm not sure it's $10 cool... but I'll tool around with the demo and if I get a good price on MS Points at Best Buy I'll buy it. The shaders on the marble are impressive, but when you consider it's the main object on screen, I'd have hoped so.
On par with what I expected, honestly. I'm curious about this "multiplayer" aspect though. Piqued to say the least.

Tried with a friends account and the same thing happens. I'll have to investigate further

And Annapolis trailer not available outside the US, the same as MI3 and a third movie. Boo.
EDIT: tried switching ports on the router no help. Tried powering the router off and as soon as its off the stutter stops (im spinning the camera) and when it wakes up, the stutter starts as soon as the inbuilt switch wakes up (even before the DSL line us up). BUMMER
Could you guys mention if youre using wireless or RJ45. Thanks.
And now tried in HD 1280x720 no difference, though the game looks great with superb AA action.
EDIT2: Now I even tried plugging my 360 directly to my xbox1 and marble blast starts stuttering when the xbox1 reaches its dashboard. There's obviously some sort of networking bug with this game.
Tomorrow I'll call up my bro so he can test with his 360 to see if he also gets it, if yes then I can rest this as purely a bug with the game.

I notcied no stutter in framerate when in single player smooth as butter at 1080i

in multiplayer there was a tiny bit of lag but barely noticable...

I fixed the stutter you worthless goons! (Sorry, had to take it out on somebody

)
Went to
System blade -> Computers and disconnected both MCE and Windows Media Connect computers whose connections were open.Clearly the game has a bug where it tries to hammer the computers in the list and ends up stuttering like crazy when the computers arent responding!
Now I'm happy, silky smooth gaming, even in multiplayer (normal network issues aside)!

Difficult huh? Now I'm really interested. The demo seems so EASY. I may just splurge on this one.
As for Best Buy... I buy giftcards off eBay for 85% face value and then use them to buy games and points at Best Buy. It's like paying the old $50 a game (especially when I have a $10 off coupon

).

I don't know. I played the opening level, and I was hooked.

I got first place on the leaderboards in several levels. I'm sure they've been wiped out by now as the game has been gaining popularity.

I've seen you in a few top ten spots also, Killa.
I haven't found it to be a very difficult game. If you were good at
Marble Madness, this shouldn't be too difficult for you. There are
a lot of shortcuts you can take to reach the goals. An easy way to squeeze your way through bumpers is by holding the right thumbstick so that you see everything from above. You can jump over bumpers, too.
So far, all of my times are well under par.

I'm on level 38, but I need to finish up some work. I'll pick it up again tomorrow. I still gotta check out multiplayer.

im stuck on level 48. The last 10-20 advanced levels are pretty elite. I always loved marble madness so this game is a must for me.
Also no stuttering for me. Only thing i dont like is the 5 minutes lame trance loop for music.

Well, if you like the old marble madness. Im pretty sure you'll enjoy this one. The multiplayer is actually pretty fun to. Wish they would have had a couple of more lvls but the are still fun.
Anything with the ice in the lvls screws me up bad. This game brings back memories for sure. I remember throwing my old nintendo control a couple times for marble madness. I wanted to throw my 360 control a bunch to but I cant afford another right now. I wish they would invent unbreakable controls. That would rock.
metaldevil
Jan 26 2006, 11:23 AM
^ The trick to the ice levels is spinning the marble in the direction you want to go as soon as you hit the jump button (L trigger or A). As you land, immediately jump again and spin the marble again in the direction you want to travel. The less time your marble spends on that slippery surface means the more control you have over it. Don't forget: you can use your boost thingy (when it's full is best) in the middle of a jump to gain a little extra height.

This game is significantly different from Marble Madness.
I received Marble Blast Gold with my Mac Mini so I knew exactly what I could expect from this game. This game is pretty much the same as Marble Blast Gold with improved graphics and new boards. There are some things in this game that are visually pleasing such as the glass walls, the ice, the light reflection, and the skate park level. For what it is the graphics are really good. The gameplay is awesome. I downloaded this last night and played it for the next 4 hours until I needed to hit the sack. This is game is well worth the cost. I would recommend this game over any other Live Arcade game (except maybe Geometry Wars.)

I downloaded the demo last night... I think I'm going to upgrade to the full version tonight... it's a VERY fun game.
Those of you who only downloaded the demo do know you can play 2 intermediate AND 2 Advanced levels in addition to the easy levels right? ... it just sounded like you didn't know you could play the harder ones.
The easy levels were just too easy, almost boring
the intermediate ones were REALLY fun (I particularly liked "the road less traveled") They weren't HARD but playing through fast you're in a constant state of allmost falling off which made it kind of intense.
The Advanced levels are HARD, They're not so much challenging gameplay wise as they difficult to figure out where to go. That and they're just MASSIVE. it took me about 5 mintues to complete each of the two.
The game is really fun... though 800 points is a bit much... 400 and I would have purchased it after the first level... at 800 I had to play through the entire trial and sleep on it.
It will make a nice addition to my Live Arcade Collection with Geometry Wars, and Bankshot Billiards

I am stuck right now on the trap door level, 30 minutes in I gave up and tried some multiplayer instead.
Note: If you are going to play multiplayer make sure to change the look of your marble beforehand.

Very addicting game.

Well the multiplayer achievements are easy. Just create your own game with one other person, start it, and start collecting everything before they join lol and you get the winner one easly. Im still working on the 2000 jems one though.

Btw, anyone find these so called "easter eggs" ?
metaldevil
Jan 27 2006, 12:42 AM
They're sprinkled throughout the levels. I don't remember where I got mine. They look bigger than a marble and are oddly colored and, of course, egg-shaped.

After I finish with advanced, I'll go egg huntin' to find the ones I'm missing.

I wish there was more to multiplayer, though. I would like to have seen "bumper deathmatch" where you ram your opponents off the board. At least something other than gem collecting.

Jan 27 2006, 04:51 PM
Is it just me, or are the single player levels, even the most difficult ones, fairly easy to go through.
I feel like they made the marble have such tight controls, that as long as you are careful, you can easily zip through the levels.
In 2 hours, I completed all but 4 of the 60 levels, and most of them are under par. I think it might take an hour or 2 to complete the advanced levels all under par (15 left, 4 of which I have not attempted)
I just find this to be a bit elementary in difficulty, nothing challenging unless you have limited previous experience in games.
However, it is super fun, I love zipping through levels, it is one of the more relaxing games I have ever played.

That is true because MS wants to reach non-gamers. I would like for the difficulty to be a bit higher, though. The only challenge we can get from it is finding and collecting those eggs.
I started an egg thread
here with pictures. Feel free to help out.
