I get 0110 what the hell is that?
Team Modfreakz
Hallo together!!

I think I have a solution for error 0102.

My x360 has the 3 blinking lights (error 0102). The Xbox360 was booting up and suddenly it froze, sometimes at X-logo or in dashboard. Sometimes I had also picture errors. (Vertical stripes and many rectangles) After 20-40 reboots I got it to work!

Then I opened my xbox, turned it on and touched the BGA memory chips. During this the xbox got more pixel errors and if I pressed strong enough, all pixel errors disappeared. blink.gif

I thought that I have found the problem, but when I pressed on the Southbridge the same thing happened again. Sometimes more picture mistakes sometimes less. So this means, that the problem is something there.

I remembered, that I still have a Ti4600 GPU with defective BGA RAMs. It makes funny signs and symbols if I touch it. So I used my Hot-air (http://www.freepler.de/userdaten/38928917/...60/01010007.jpg) and heated up this BGA chips. Then I waited till the graphic card have a normal temperature. And you will not believe it! All runs OK, no changes when I touch the RAMs. I also played with it and tested it with benchmark, no problem any more. biggrin.gif

And now!! I have done the same work with my xbox360. And also here, everything works in the best way!!
no freeze, no pixelerrors or horrible noise and no bootup problems.

I think MS has saved on high-quality tin-solder. mad.gif

Attention!! I cannot guarantee that it will also works on your xbox360!!
If you still want trying it, be carefully and do not move or touch anything when you heat them up.

well my error 0102 happend when i made this account, and since then i havn't found anything on the net so far telling me what to do. shortly before it happend my memory card port took a dump ( suspiciously after somebody in my house cut the power while i was booting up) after that it still worked and hdd was fine. but a few days later i booted it up with halo2 in the drive and returned to dash. ejected it, putting graw in and i got to the "game experience may change during online play " screen and it froze with a beeping sound. i tried restarting it and it froze with little blocks around the 360 logo. after that ive been getting 3 red lights of doom. i got the chassy off right now but i dont have the right bit to get the rest of the screws off. i got some with my allen wrench. so i can't look inside yet.... that means 0102 for my console is definitly not overheating. any info would help! thanks

are you sure it's not 0011?
OpenXbox
I am sure i get 0110. I took it all apart and got it to give me the 2 overheating lights and then i turned it off for a few hours. I tried it again and it booted up. I then put it back together and got the 3 red lights with the same error code.

3 Lights and an error code 0021 here. Any clues as to what this is? This started after my house was hit by lighting. I swapped the power and av cable from a working console and it still gave me the 3 red lights. I swapped my harddrive over and that is still ok. I have not registered or bought an extended warrenty. I bought it the day it came out from bestbuy. Is there any hope in contacting MS to get it fixed?

This is getting really frustrated..First off I dont want to pay the $130 for repairs that i didnt do..I was getting the error code 0102 and the thing wouldnt boot up at all, I decided to open it...just out of curiosity to see what was inside, I remove everything and inside seems so spacious...so I know overheating wasnt a problem, plugged it in and guess what...It WORKS...alay lu ya!!!! it turned on, I put Fight Night in, tested out for one round and was sure it was working again, Put the thing back together and POOF another error code, but this one is 0021(some guy had same problem but said it was AV cable, I hardly doubt that..Now the Fight Night I had in the tray would not pop out and that dam 0021 comes up 2 seconds after I boot up. Open it up again and now it remains with the code 0021 error and it seems more frustrating than the 0102 error. AWWWWW somebody help me, help me please! Since I opened it would M$ still repair it for $130 or does anyone know what this could be, any help would be appreciated. thanks

personally i have no idea of what 0021 can be, i had 0020 and im pretty sure it was GPU Fried!, anyway, since you know its the console and get the 3 red lights go and call MS, even if you have not registered or bought extended warranty, they will repair it or send you a refurbished one (my refurbished works so far so good... a lot more than the other one), you just DONT TELL THEM ANYTHING ABOUT THE LIGHTING or else they will probably say its not their fault and wont repair anything.

hope to be any help

should not have open it... now it seems your a little screwed... MS would have repaired it for you for free, basicly i (in your feet) would pay the repair, or try getting another 360 "if you actually find one for an amount around those 130$" and then wait so eventually you can may be later repair it for less money (when you find some one who can repair it) then probably sell it and get your money back... but... its still very complicated...

I just wanted to add a quick bit of info. I’m getting "0102" also sad.gif

However, I will say that I had zero problems with my 'Box UNTIL I plugged my iPod into it for the first time. I had my 360 for about two months when yesterday I was curious how well the iPod worked (I had the Media Connect thing streaming my MP3s so there was no need for the iPod). So I plugged it in, said "yup, it works" when I disconnected it, it immediately locked up the iPod and ever since then the 360 gives the 0102 error. I think somebody in a previous post dismissed a portable music player as causing his problem? May be there is something there after all?

Thanks for the help regardless, I've learned a bunch from this thread and I guess I'm calling MS tomorrow sad.gif

I get 0110 what the hell is that?

I got the same code. 0110. Sometimes it'll come on and freeze. Sometimes it won't even boot up. It will just flash 3 red lights of death at me. Today I tried to play it and at first it would not boot at all. Then all of sudden it booted up and let me play Fight Night Round 3 for about an hour. I ended up having to shut it off like you would normally do. So I could go to the bank. Wanted to play it again about 2 hours ago and it just keeps on flashing, won't even boot up. I took it apart and re-did the heatsinks about a month ago but that only helped keep it going for another week with no problems then back to freezing and flashing again. I took it apart because my warranty expired April 29th which was 2 weeks before it started freezing up. When I have it apart the fans will sound differently when it decides to boot up than the way they do when it will just flash the lights. Almost seems like there is a possible problem with the fan speed sensor or some type of voltage problem on the board. Heck, I don't know. I just wish I could get it working the way it did when I first got it from Mountain Dew. Also, if you take the plastic vent out from in between the heatsinks and the fans then the system will heat up and the fan speed increases and if you leave it off then the system will shutdown and flash 2 red lights showing that it overheated. Now I did this once when it was flashing the 3 red lights at me and would not boot after being shutoff for a couple of days and when the fan speed increased and the 360 heated up some I replaced the plastic vent and shutoff the system myself. I then restarted it and it booted up and allowed me to play a game for about 15 minutes before it froze again. Maybe a solder problem?

everything that you stated is exactly what happened to mine and I also have a mountain dew box

Thanks for the great post, it's helped immensly. I'm encountering X360 failure on a massive scale on X360 retails, X360 Dev kits and X360 Debug kits, (right about a 15% failure rate). Most of the time this is the 3 red lights issue, and I've had no luck up until now diagnosing the problems. Firstly, there are a number of red light codes that have not been addressed in the above document, which I'll be mentioning later in the week.

Secondly, I have two question for the conversation. Does anyone know quick work arounds for fixing any of the 3 red light errors? Typically I reset the console tens and sometimes hundreds of times until it actually boots, then I'll run a flash disk to wipe the hard drive and system software. This helps sporatically. And is there any word on if MSs statement regarding the protective foil intentionally being left as a heat conductive is accurate?
shpydar
have a 0102 here, a little more info on mine -- my 360 worked fine for the first month or two, no problems at all. then at some point after getting Oblivion and playing for a few dozen hours, the 360 would occasionally have disc read errors -- sometimes reading the disc as dirty, sometimes mistakening it for a DVD (the whole concept of getting the "please put this disc in an Xbox360" error message while the disc is actually in the 360 would be funny otherwise mad.gif ). Usually after a reboot or two, all would be well. This continued for a while, but not that often. No other problems with the 360 during that time. Now in the past week or two, the 360 has had more and more of those same "disc-read" errors, until it would happen almost every time i booted up a disc (specific discs include Hitman, PDZ, Quake4 and a couple OXM demo discs). Today, after expecting it any day now, i got the three-red ring. I was able to boot up Hitman again later and play for a few before freezing. Now the system freezes either right before or during the 360 logo intro screen -- but curiously the red lights have not re-appeared since the logo freezes started.

just from a quick observation of how my 360 behaved, it seemed that there was some relation to the disc drive -- i had also noticed the drive makes a very small brief spin-noise (not unlike that old-school noise of a 3.5" drive looking for a disc, but much shorter in duration). I also noted that aside from the aforementioned disc problems, the 360 showed no other signs of trouble (live arcade, music, messaging, etc all have worked fine).

just wanted to throw a little more data out there...

I suddenly have this error

I did the test and it looks like the code is 0003 which isn't listed anywhere as far as i can see

it starts like this.. (top right not lit, rest flashing slowly)

/
\ /

then i do white button and eject it goes to

/ \
\ / flashing fast

press eject two more times while holding white, it keeps on

/ \
\ / both times (so first three codes are 000

Then on the fourth press of eject it goes to

/ \
/ (bottom left not lit)

is this 0003 or am i reading it wrong?

Ive actually had a 360 give that error. Not sure what it is though. I got rid of it and got another one.

Regardless of your error there really isn't much you can do to fix it yourself.

99% of the time you should just send it back to MS or the store you got it from and get a new one.

Basically I hoped to make this something where if you get an error you could easily determine if it was based on the HDD, PSU, or AV adapter... those items can all be easily "serviced" buy you and if nothing else you'll be more informed when you Call Up MS to get an RMA. Some of those who have modified their console might also be interested in DVD drive specific errors and potentially fix those themselves.

AT this point we don't know enough about the console to really have any advice on how to fix it. sad.gif

I'm sure we'll know more as time goes on but right now.. just send it back

@talker1083
yeah it sounds like an 0003, since 0002 is a PSU error you might want to take a look at the light on your PSU... if it's Green it should be good, if it's RED your PSU is probably the problem (Orange means stand by)

@EATibConsole
That protective foil on the thermal compound is completely normal and actually IMPROVES the thermal conductivity of that particular compound, they use it for ease of manufacturing. Regardless it sucks compared to a GOOD thermal compound and you can dramatically improve the thermal conductivity if you were to clean the factory stuff off of both chips and replace it with Arctic Silver 5 or some other brand name compound.

The factory stuff SHOULD be good enough, though I suppose if your console lives in a hot environment and is more susceptible to heat then other consoles it might help (this goes for any electronic device that has heat syncs though). Even still the foil is not a mistake... it's completely normal and intentional.

Had no problems up until the Spring Dashboard Update.

Every since then I've been getting the transparent checker board freezes during boot up, random freezes during Live Arcade games, booting with no video/audio output, and finally the 3 red lights.

Unfortunately these seem to be happening more frequently as time goes by.

If and when I do get the dreaded three red lights, I get error code 0102.

I may have to boot 10 - 20 times to get the 360 booting properly to the dash.

I suspect it may either be a bug in the dashboard software, or upon doing the dashboard update (flashing bios and writing to ram where dashboard is stored) some component has been stressed and subsequently damaged, hence an unknown error.

I'm contacting M$ on Monday, will try and get some more info from them.

I have a new error code!!

If the EEPROM of the x360 HD is missing, faulty, defective or desoldered the XBOX360 gives an error.

Figured it out. Your video memory is overheating. If you opened your case. Then try mounting a fan over top of your memory. I fixed mine last night. I plan on modifying the case so that I can fit my DVD drive back in it though. I've already cut some of my GPU heatsink off and uncovered the other 2 memory chips that was underneath it. I plan on cutting the left over piece of the GPU heatsink that I cutoff into 4 pieces and placing them onto the video memory with some thermal tape.

Good Luck.

Starting to think that the 0102 error may be related to the hard drive...

I've been getting the 0102 error with the hard drive connected, I usually have to reboot 20 to 40 times before it loads normally.

However since then I have removed the hard drive and its been booting up with no problems.

I will test it booting it 100 times with and 100 times without the hard drive and let you guys know the results.

Face
Ok so I didn't test it 100 times, but 50 times instead.

I had been getting the 0102 error randomly and thought it might have been related to the hard drive.

The first test was to, disconnected the hard drive, and repeatively boot to the dashboard 50 times.
Result: 100% Success

Therefore I assumed it had got to be something to do with the hard drive. I reconnected the hard drive and went into the System > Memory > Hard Drive. Going through each category, I deleted every 'Incomplete Download' indicated by the yellow triangle.

I then tried repeatively booting to the dashboard 50 times. Results: 100% success. Previously (before deleting the incomplete downloads and with the hard drive connected) this would have almost certainly resulted in a 0102 error.

My guess is that after the Spring dashboard update, any previous incomplete downloads would cause problems, occasionally resulting in the 0102 error. This can possibly explain why the console freezes during boot or during an xbox live arcade game.

During boot the console checks for any gamer profiles existing on the hard drive, if it comes across an incomplete download or bad data, it may freeze randomly. This may explain why it can freeze at different points during the boot.

For xbox live arcade games it also makes sense as the console is loading data to and from the hard drive. If it comes across a bad incomplete download it may freeze.

Of course I am guessing here, so this may be complete rubbish.

Anyway, so for those of you getting the 0102 error, if you can get it to boot normally, try deleting any 'incomplete downloads' and see if that helps.

If you don't have any incomplete downloads and are getting the 0102 error please also make it clear on this forum.

I have yet to play any games, and I may just be lucky but it seems to be booting more reliably than it was.

I will keep ya posted.

I got a xbox 360 core system from ebay yesturday, and it was geting the 3 red lights (just as the auction said).

Error code : 0102 (did it a few times to make sure at different boots)

It seams asif i fixed it (geting artic silver 5 in the mail in around 3 days from now smile.gif).

Here is my story, i took the system down to nothing (includeing takeing heat sinks off), and also i did press down on many of the RAM chips (mainly checking heat and connection, might of been loose not 100% sure)

The first 2 or 3 times i turned it on i got the 0102 error (possible its also got overheating in the unknown part).

after that i got it to boot once, so i rebooted it a few times, every time worked, so i left it on for around 1-1.5 hours and then looked down (was playing counter strike lol) and 3 red lights but fully working in the dash(error 0102 agian). I didnt have a game so i turned it back off and left it.

Today i got a game (Full Auto) and loaded it on my projector (hd and all with VGA input) and used my vga cables and played the game for around 10-15 mins b4 the same error.

Then i figured it must be heat is causeing it so i put a very powerfull fan on it (blowing in the side holes while laying down) and never got the error in 2 hours of solid play. Then i turned off it, and the fan, waited around an hour and turned it back on, same thing 10-15 min of play and that error (never got 2 lights only the 3, 0102).

When i get the Artic Silver 5 in the mail i will install it and tell every one how my luck goes smile.gif.

Thanks for the great info (if not for you guys, i would never of touched the RAM chips lol)

are you putting artic silver 5 on the ram chips?
neoed30
QUOTE(OpenXbox @ Jun 21 2006, 01:12 AM) *

No. I've got some video ram heatsinks with thermal tape on them now to disperse the heat. I still need to get the case modified so I can mount a fan over top of them to extract the heat from inside the case.
Face
I dont think the 0102 error is the 360 overheating, as you can boot from cold and get the error. RAM chips will take a while to overheat. CPU and GPU can overheat quickly but that would result in different error codes.

Try what I suggested in my previous posts. I haven't got the error since and thats been 2 days now.
Sharky3
I don't think it has anything to do with the hard drive because when I temporarily fixed my 0102 error code it was after I had taken the heat sinks off and put on Artic Silver. This worked for a week until it started freezing again. When it was working I deleted my incomplete downloads and cleared the hard drive cache. I think 0102 has to be a problem with the GPU or the RAM.

That's what did when I re-did my heatsinks with Artic Silver and then it worked for a week. Then right back to the freezing and 3 red flashing lights. I cooled my GPU ram and haven't had any problems since. Try that. It would flash or freeze even from a cold boot and now it's fine. My error code was 0110 though.
Thirsty Fire
I have 0102 error code and I cant get my xbox 360 to boot I tried everything I have no warranty any idea, btw I already opened my xbox 360 and changed the heatsink paste for CPU & GPU.

any idea?
twistedsymphony
Apparently people still don't get it... 0102 is "unknown error"

sometimes it's caused by overheating...

sometimes it's caused by the HDD...

sometimes it's caused by.....

Essentially it means that something is wrong and the console is incapable of identifying the problem

IT COULD BE ANYTHING
Thirsty Fire
It's not the HDD because I removed it and it's not overheating because I left it for 2 days but still not working...
Sharky3
Neoed should I try to get all 8 parts of the RAM? Or are you just talking about the 2 under the GPU heatsink? I think I'm going to order some thermal tape/pads and stick those on all the pieces of RAM and maybe order a heatsink for the Southbridge.
pol4co
I'm having 0110 code problem

I already tried Artic Silver, with no luck
I also tried to blow a cold air directly over the 360 memory chips with no luck
the console just refuse to boot even when its totaly cold, so I don't think its a overheating problema cause there is no time for the system to overheating.

Can anyone help out? Maybe the a cold solder on the memory chips?

I tried to rework the sold points with a hairdrier, but I'm not sure if its hot enough

I would appreciate any help, thanks!

O-Rly? I'll have to speak with them... it's not the first time my stuff has been ripped off. My PGR3 achievement guide showed up at xbox360Achievements.org with someone else's name on it... I've emailed them several times about it and received no responce... My Hard Wired DVD tutorial has shown up all over the place. A buddy of mine even showed me a book that got published with it in there... A few other random guides too.

It's kind of silly, I don't have problems with people re-posting my stuff so long as they ask permission and provide a link to the original source. Llamma has this guide reposted on his site, but he asked me if he could. And what do you know I send him a friendly PM whenever I update it so the re-post on his site is up-to date (similarly if he ever contributes anything to it he'll let me know).

It's not like I'm hard to get ahold of. anyone who PMs or emails me knows they'll usually get a responce within a day, if they're lucky within an hour...

I must have missed this post yesterday. Sorry about that. I haven't tried to put any ram heatsinks on the 4 chips on the bottom side of the board yet. I have to get some more. There may be enough room to fit some flat ones in there. Not sure. I ordered a heatsink for my southbridge as well. I did put heatsinks on all 4 chips on the top half of the board. Yes even the ones under my GPU heatsink. Only because I cut some off of it just enough to mount heatsinks on them. I made of post to what all I did so far. I cannot post any pics because I do not have a Digital Camera. Here is link to the somewhat of a tutorial for what I have done : Somewhat of a tutorial

also 0102 here

froze first time at a game after 5 min play then after reboot hung at logo screen next day could play again for 5 min then hung again at logo screen now it wont boot at all no av output it seems all 0102 peeps have similair problems and maybe same solution ?

Here's a bit of info that might be of some use. After getting the 0102 last night and assuming all was lost I was looking through this post and noticed a couple "connected IPOD/PSP" problems. I remembered that I plugged in the USB "play and charge" controller charger last week for the first time when the system was off. Here's the order of events:

Plugged in "play and charge" USB kit (while console was off)
After not having played the system for one week, I turned it on and COD2 froze after about 1 min.
Turned off/on, froze during boot screen.
Turned off/on, froze during boot screen + Red ring of lights. Tried removing power/av/hard drive, etc..
Red ring, no video (over and over)
Panic, panic, panic....
Remebered the USB connection, unplugged "play and charge" kit, booted ok!
Connected "play and charge" kit, all seems well. I can boot fine on all different configs.

I guess it may have had a problem recognizing the usb device after it was cold connected. Next time I use it I'll be connecting it while the system is ON!

After about 5 days of not getting a single 0102 error or freeze, I have got it the 360 freezing and 3 red lights again! Going to send it back to M$ under 1 year warrenty. No doubts it will work at the repair center and they send it right back. Will take a note of the serial number and see if it changes when I get a new/repaired/refurbished one back.

I am a little skeptical as it think the console I might get back will be in worst condition than the one I already own.

0110 is memory error/memory overheating. Its the same code I am getting now after my 0102 error code.
