I picked a 360 from a guy that had the 3 lights of death. I gave him 50 bucks for it. I took it home and seen that it has a error code not discovered yet.
Its error code is #0203
This is the first one I got with a error code this strange. I guess this 360 is FUBAR
Anyone got one with a funky error code like this before??

My system will not show the secondary code when the 2 buttons are pressed. It only blinks all 4 lights really fast. I have pulled the codes before so I know I am doing it correctly. What does this mean? Thanks in advance for any help or info.

He is right, if ever you put an intercooler on your console and have it get the 3rlod 2 months later the intercooler is most likely what cuased, it happened to me and many others.

Same thing happened to me too, i think it has something to do with the latest update. I turned on console, asked me to update, i did so, it rebooted fine, i bought Track and field, played that for a while, turned off for a few hours, turned back on and E74 error code. I calleds support and they told me to do the same things(unplug everything). After all this failed she said it needs to be repaired. Mine is out of warranty so will cost £63. I told her its happened because of the update as its been fine since i had it, but she begged to differ.
At this moment, i'm not willing to pay £63 a repair which i feel is their fault.

I bet it is because I've heard a lot of people having problems with theres due to the spring dash board update. Or interrupted downloads.

Just to slim the list down:
E64=1000
E65=1001
E66=1002
E67=1003
The codes skip after 3 to 10 so:
E68=1010
E69=1011
E70=1012
E71=1013
The codes skip after 13 to 20 so:
E72=1020
E73=1021
E74=1022
E75=1023
The codes skip after 23 to 30 so:
E76=1030
E77=1031
E78=1032
E79=1033
This is the end of the matched codes since fours are not possible.

My friend's 360 (mfg date: 2006-02-07) with Ms25 TS-H493 drive has been working great until this weekend when it apparently shut down while he was playing. He has the blinking 3 lights, and the secondary code seems to read 0001, Power Supply problem. I've swapped it with 2 working power supplies but I still get the same ring of death with the same 0001 code. I took off the HD and swapped AV cables, but still nothing. The CD drive doesn't open and the fans don't ever spin up so I'm stumped. I'm leaning toward a bad mobo or CPU but really have no idea.
Just wanted some advice before telling the poor guy he's out $350.
Thanks in advance!

Alrightie, then.. Here's my story, should you be interested..
I'd gotten 2 CoD4 BETA keys a few days ago, one for me and one for a friend. Joy. It is a extremely fun Beta, and I miss it already. Back on subject..
I played it on and off for the past few days with no problems at all, until today.
Just like any other day: Played a couple rounds with a friend, shut it off, played some Ragnarok Online (I know, "It's so old!").
Came back after a friend called me on my cell, "Hey, you hit level 11 yet? We're waiting for you!" Alright, I'm coming.. Oh, my 360 didn't agree. It gave me the finger. I don't know how exactly, but it did. I tried out the error code button combinations, subsequentially giving me "0020". "Great" I thought, "I love unknown things." Microsoft seems to like it when we are in the dark, too. 3-5 days for a box to arrive, and 3 weeks for repair. If it progresses just as Achmed (The dude I talked to, seriously. Speak english much?) ligned out, it will take 3 weeks for repair. That schedule, gives me +/- 2 days within the launch of Halo 3.
I'm not holding my breath.
Why? Microsoft just keeps screwing me(everyone) over.

Working on 0020:
Didn't see error at first, boots fine, DVD playback. Started freezing on Live updates, regressed to freeze on boot and no boot. Applied A5, no help. 3 penny spacer thing, no help though fans spin faster which is alright with me, board does flex though, was still booting and/or freezing at this point no 3rol. Tighten stock xclamps and 0020, loosen and boot/freeze. one by one found to be left rear, difference between boot and 0020 is an 1/8 of a turn. When held as tight as possible I still can't boot a game. X-Replacement next step, will advise if I get it going.

Fixed my 0020 box. MKIII method w/ 3 washer from bottom of the board to chassis and one between board and heatsink. Over tightening gave 0020, under tightening would boot and freeze the box. It took some playing with the right amount of tension but finally got it going. Now it needs an extra fan to keep the GPU from getting too hot and moving the BGA joints. That said I would say that 0020 is due to bad BGA joints and is difficult to fix, but it can be done with patience and lots of trial an error. All and all I spent 1 hour on different configuration of MKIII before I fixed my box.

I got the three rings of death a couple of weeks ago and I sent my box off to the HQ for repair, luckily mine lasted until MS decided to upgrade the warranty to 3 years. My xbox lasted about 2 years without a problem. I understand MS used shitty solder so the gpu is not functioning properly. The thing is I have heard some people say that if you use an intercooler that it will void the warranty(not sure if thats true), but I put one on mine about a month after I bought it and it probally had alot to do with why mine worked so long. I wish I ahd as much knowledge as some of you have, because I would have never put it on top of my directtv hd reciever which pumps out alot of heat even when it's not running, but just now as I am writing this I am realizing that is probally exactly why mine lasted so long. In fact it' sound as if the consoles will last longer the hotter you keep them just becuase it softens the solder and hepls the connection. I saw pictures of the repaired units with new heat sinks. I hope MS uses the silver solder everyone is talikng about, because it sound like that will permanately fix the problems and with the new updates getting more out of these machines and them running faster and hotter in the future. It will be needed if MS wants to continue to improve the performance and get the most out of these consoles. If they just decide to cheap fix the it would behoove them to not try and maximise the potential of this machine. What a cluster fuc by ms. My question is, where did they make these machines. I'm getting tired of american companys giving away american jobs to crappy ass underpaid exploited employees of China. Destroying what could have been a fantastic console, and killing all of our pets and poisoning our children with lead.

I'm getting the 3 red lights, and the error code is 0102, and I have no idea what's wrong. It gave me this error before, and would not turn on, but somehow fixed itself (only thing i did was plug in my mp3 player to it, but thats most likely unrelated.)
Now its doing it again and its not turning on at all. I guess i got lucky last time. It hasn't even been used for about 4 hours, and it wasn't any rigorous playing, so its not overheating. I just decided to turn it on and it did this. It also froze up earlier during Perfect Dark, might be related.
It says on this thread that 0102 is an unknown error... anyone know?
ya i got the 0102 code and i called xbox told em i think i have a gpu error and hes like .. i dont know what your talking about and that was the repair line !!! thats what you get for outsourcing to poeple who dont know nothing bout
But yea man they said oh its kinda a serious error when u get 3 lights so go ahead and send to us.... so my system is off to the hells of MS i wont see my 360 for a month :/ 3 weeks ONCE THEY RECIEVE IT thats bull crap... so that means they recieve it set it on a shelf and forget it. and not to mention all those poeple slamming it around and treating my baby like shit and i swear if it comes back with my face plate gone and a stock one on it ima be pissed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted so share my exp and info. !st off i did xclamp and was working good for bout 3 onths. Then bout 4 days ago i got E74 which translates to A/V error. Tried new cable as some have suggested and nothing. Well i went ahead and cleaned off GPU long with bottom of heatsink then used heat gun method to resolder possable loose connections. Next appied fresh dose of AS5. Next made sure all nuts and bolts were tightened properly. Put back together and what you know.....IT BOOTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The joy that i was feeling

. So far been runing for bout 1.5 hrs now and no problems as of yet. I dont think that this is a permenant fix however. So far though it looks promising. So in conclusion, the HEAT GUN METHOD IN FACT DOES WORK ALONG WITH ADDING FRESH AS5! JOY! Im back on XBL playing GOW again

!
p.s. I would personally like to thank every1 in the community for thier hard work and dedication. I've learned so much from all you guys, and keep up the GR8 work. Beers on me

Well just to give an update on my current fix. Well, last night i was playing GOW on XBL and then the screen started getting green and scarmbled with lines. I shut it off. So 2 days ago i used heat gun fix and worked flawlessly for 2 days. Im thinking that the GPU or ram chips may have come loose once again. Well i booted it round 2 hrs later and everything seemed fine. Just to be safe i set display to 480 from 1080. All in all i seem to having no problems since. Though i am taking a close look at the console to make sure heat does not become a big issue. BTW i am currently playing with the case off. Im not sold on putting case back on and having to open again due to another failure.

Ok, once again i got a scrambled green screen while playing GOW. Yesterday i retightned all bolts and screws and what not. Well it worked perfect for 7 hrs straight. Was playing today and GPU problem aried again. Now im thinking that the heat is so bad that maybe its cuasing bolts and what not to become loose. I once again made sure that all was tightened right and booted. Boot up perfect and 3 hrs in shes running like a champ. The GPU heatsink is getting ridicoulsly hot and too hot to touch. Not good. Just seems weird that tighting will give me whole day of no prob gaming then just start acting up again. Perhaps replacing the bolts and screws would be a solution? Not sure but is there a heatsink that is available for the 360 GPU that could maybe prevent it from getting hotter than the flames of hell? Any feedback would be great.

E74: There is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In rare cases it is a problem with the GPU.
What causes the E74 error exactly? Excess heat? My 360 was in an open area. Or is it a design flaw by Microsoft?
Thanks in advance (i'm writing an angry letter

I get it about 8 out of 10 times i turn my 360 on..... it takes awhile for the 3 RROL to show up though, sometimes it takes 5 minutes to show up. Until then it just sits there with no picture no sound and the controller doesnt sync. Once the 360 is on it plays fine with no problems or errors

I think that it is GPU related i fixed a 360 the other day by replacing the xclamps and i got this code. Turns out i had the heat sink too tight against the GPU, once i loosended it worked perfect (i use 1 lock washer under each leg). Tested for over an hour.

secondary error code 1000 is listed as still not known.
I got this error right after my drive stopped reading disks.
Next thing you know my drive wont open and i get an E64 error with 1000 code. So it's something DVD drive related, but not sure exact cause. I did find however that when i smacked the front of the drive hard after getting pissed at it, everything worked fine for the a day before it went bad again...
And all this on my Halo Edition 360...

Error E72 with 0022
I believe this error is caused by the HYNIX Flash. While testing my connections for a dual kernal system, I booted with the CE pin conected by DPDT switch. After a normal boot, I tested with it disconected. This gave me 3RL and error 0022. I turned off the system, fliped the switch, booted up to error E72 (which I thought was odd.) I turned the system off and waited 10 sec to make sure it was completley down. Turned back on to a normal boot up.

Definately GPU related - I had 0020 - and when I opened my box up, I turns out that one of the T8 screws holding the xclamp on was loose. A quick tighten and all is well. Tested for 10 hours game time then, turn off and cool down, then another 10 hours game time etc.

X Clamp method fixes it, as it is a GPU related problem. I had it recently, played a bit with the screws of the X Clamps, went to 102, and I just tightened a bit the screws, overheated... and it works =P

hi all
I have a question, I have replaced the x-clamps and I am now getting the 0020 error, as opposed to the 3 lights that I originally had.
After reading on here it seems that I may have tightned them a bit tight, so I will try losing them when i get home tonight, the problem I have is that I have used M6 fibre washers and they seem to be covering the wholes that the smallest of the torgue screws go into, is this going to cause me further problems?
Thanks
Col
