Hey,

I have a problem apparently with my AV cable, I turn on my system and wait 25 seconds and then i get 4 red lights every time, i read what to do and tried them all and none seem to work....is there a problem with the system or still the plugs. If anyone has an advice let me know.
Thank You
Raketes
Hi, after 11 months of owning the console, i got 3 red lights, and i freaked out.
I did some searching but the blinking and the pathern is kinda strange, i got the console horizontaly and there are the folowing lights blinking simultaneous: 1st(top left) 3rt(lower right) and 4th(lower left), the 2nd isn't on. (horizontal count).
I tried to get the code error but when i press sync and Eject, my drive ejects and the lights keep blinking... can't understand.
Anyone knows what this is? i was playing Bioshock before lunch and when i got back the console started doing this. Netherless to say that it doesn't give any message on tv.
And also the PSU is green when 360 is on and orange when turned off.
(and the console has been opened... tham it).

Woah, sorry I'm not replying to the topic in question, but your name just freaked me out...if you're talking about swapping your broken system with a good one (buying a new one and returning your old one in the box)...then you're not gonna get much more than that 1 post you have though.

Thanks,

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone posting info here. I had a system with a 0020 error. I tore it completely down, removed the heatsinks and applied a heat gun to both the CPU and the GPU. That seems to have done the trick. I've reassembled and have been running it nonstop for several hours now.
Kunzy
Ok, im workin on a 360. Got the ROD.

The second error code is 0102. So, i opened her up and started messin. I got the heatsinks off, cleaned them, put some AS5 on and put the heatsinks back on. I did the screws tight as i could to see if i could help the supposed cold joint. I got it all back together and powered her on. I got the 3 red lights again.

I turned it off, put pressure on the GPU and turned it on. It was a no-go. I noticed that the heatsink got hot fast.

I read something about over heating it to re-solder the broken joints. How do i do this? The links on how to do it on page 1 dont work.

Got suggestions?

0020 (Not yet known, possibly overheating)

I've figured this code out tongue.gif it is when the motherboard is bent! if you have one of the heatsink scres (x-clamp or just the tiny black screws that connect the shell to the mobo) too tight or they are all uneven it causes the motherboard to be bent. its an instant 3 lights. no two second pause like error 0102.. idk i think you should update the error code list smile.gif
ICEFIR3
I have to, at least partially, agree with above...

Here's my story (sorta summarized)

Accidentally left cabinet door closed while playing few hour session. Said "OH SHIT!" when I noticed and opened the door to my 360+ degree 360. sad.gif

Turned it off and actually didn't play for a couple days.

Next time I go to play, video is kinda wonky... turn it off and back on, video is fixed.

Next day I turn on the 360, seems to boot fine but no video or audio... and no RLoD... Tried different cables, no different.

Learn about XClamp, pennies, eraser, towels and all that shit... Decide I'm going to try some out as my Box no longer qualifies for warranty.

Spend 1/2 day trying to implement XClamp fix. (After booting the first time after doing so I start getting the 3RLoD) AND every time I make an adjustment I get a different error code.

Codes I received at various points: 0001, 0002, 0012, 0020, 0022, 0102, and even 1022!!

The most common I ran into were: 0020 (the ?? one), 0001 (PSU error) and 0102.

Modifying the amount of tension on the screws and heating the board/CPU/GPU would trigger these issues.

I've now gotten my 360 going twice by readjusting the HS screws and heating it up with a heat gun.

I just finished doing it the second time, I'll report back once I see how long this lasts.

I think that tightening your screws too hard will trigger 0020 (and even 0001) which warps the board, similarily how the XClamps did. So when doing XClamp fix, be sure to start with the screws barely even snug and keep trying to boot. AND remember to boot it up twice for each test so that you're sure the error has been cleared in the POST.

Seems a dead power suply unit can also cause 3rrod error code 0002.
hope this helps.

I've fixed two 0020 360's and I'm quietly confident that it's the north-east corner of the GPU lifting from the board. I've done xclamp replacement on both of the boxes and it's been that particular corner that's needed a quarter turn more pressure before the box boots back into life.

I've got an 0102 box infront of me at the minute, and that one has responed to pressure on the north-west corner of the GPU (all I did was move the dvd drive out the way, press down north-west of the gpu heatsink and it booted up straight away.

I'm still going to perform xclamp replacement and renew the heat transfer compound as a matter of course (plus the fact I'm being paid for it, so it has to last!) but I'm just relaying my findings on this.

By north-east and north-west, I'm looking at the box from the front, light ring pointing towards you, case open and dvd drive out of the way.

Hope this helps anyone smile.gif

Hi Frederick!

Do you offer a repair service or are you just doing it for a freind?

My 360 has error code 0102 too but i've already sent it to somebody on ebay a few months ago. He did the xclamp thing and it's worked well since until now. I overheated it with the towels and it worked for about 30 minutes so it must be some sort of warping or solder problem. Do you think it could still be fixed again?

I have also seen the error message E79 a couple of times.

Any help or advice is much appreciated smile.gif

Ok my problem is i have the Error Code 0020 and i have done both the heat gun method and the x-clamp method and it STILL gives me the Error.. I checked the mobo to make sure its not bent and its not. I also loosened the screws and what not still gives me that SAME error. Anyone have an idea what else could cause it?
d_rugs420
I am getting some unknown error.

When I power on my 360 the top left bank goes green. Then the bottom right goes red. Then both lights on the left start flashing red. Its not overheating because its doing it right away when I power it on. I was getting 3rlod with 0102 and tried the x-clamp replacement. No longer the 3rlod but now 2rlod. Anyone know what this might be?

UPDATE: I adjusted some screws and the left bank stopped flashing. I now get e65 with only bottom right bank flashing. According to this thread its some kind of dvd drive problem. I will try to figure it out. It was working fine until the 3rlod but it did make a loud noise when it froze and went to 3rlod.
d_rugs420
The dvd drive magically started working but when it does, I get 3rlod again but with a different error code. This time I get 0022. But when I disconnect the dvd drive it boots fine again. wtf Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?
Refferehtom
I just got the E79 error tonight, i got E64 the other night, after the E64, all was well and played fine. Then it started to freeze up on my, that's when i got the E79 and one red light.
This afternoon I started it up, was tooling around the new dash and it locked up on me, I rebooted and got the 3 ROD!
Rebooted a couple of times and finally got it working, only for a few minutes though, kept locking up on me.
If i remove the HDD, it boots up fine and I can keep it on for a while with no problems and no red lights flashing. As soon as i put the HDD back on, it locks up and flashes.
It's sounds like a HDD problem to me but when I look up the secondary error code, I get 0102. It says it's a GPU problem, not an HDD problem!?!

What I want to know is, can I go out and get another HDD and try swapping it with the one I have? Is there any way of keeping or transferring all my saves to the new HDD or am I just SOL?

Cant send it in for repair as it's been opened and flashed.
I also have the Blaster360 NE installed, I know it's connected correctly because I put in on there over 2 months ago, my problems just started a couple of days ago.
Thanks for any help......................

PS: I cannot guarantee that it will also work on your xbox360, but hey! it's the last chance to bring your console back to life!!! biggrin.gif

How do you fix the E74 error with secondary code 1022...will the X-clamp work, I tried the towerl trick twice and it works but for only a short while..I dont want to keep on trying the towel trick cause I heard it can fry you x360 inside! blink.gif

Please help?
LarsPT
Hey guys!
I'm also getting the E74 with error code 1022. I heard it showed a "blue screen of death" while playing CoD4 before it died (I wasn't even the one playing with the damn thing). I have two different cables, one to play on my TV and another to play on my computer screen (a VGA cable), and none of them seem to work. If I disconnect the console long enough and try it again the green lights combo shows, but I get no sound and no image. If I turn it off and try again I get the error again.
What would you have me do?
Do you think I'm screwed?
If nothing works, should I even bother buying a new one, or should I just save and buy a PS3?

Best regards!

If you shorted out the 5V on the 360 for some reason, and now your 360 has the error 0001 or 0002 (psu error), and using a different brick does not fix it, i have a *now confirmed working* fix:

IPB Image

The two MOSFETs circled in blue must be replaced.

The part number is NTD60N02RG:

http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions/product.do?id=NTD60N02R

I posted the fix a while ago, but it was untested, but Smartmod has repaired his motherboard by replacing the FETs, so the repair is now confirmed working.

will you be making a youtube video of this fix. because i have error 0002 and need to fix it smile.gif

i got red light of death, code 0102....but the weird thing is...i still can play my xbox for hours, with RLOD...weird huh...
sowa99
After X-clamp (0102 standard code smile.gif ) console work.. But, i booted it second time and get one diode.. Checked the code and it was 1033.. I rebooted it and work fine..

So i think it 'could' be gpu/cpu error (need confirmed, i'll check it smile.gif ) OR psu problem (?)..

ok so i bought a xbox360 from a friend on the 26, well it worked for a while he told me about the red rings before, but for $50 you cant be to mad, anyways i rented halo 3 and put it in it ran of course the dashboard came up but it had like blue lines across the dashboard but not the whole screen, anyways halo3 ran for a while like 10 mins, and then all the sudden the screen starts switching from green and red back and forth really fast, the game wasnt scrached, and then after like 5 min of that the screen disapeared, and it started to snow......

i restarted the xbox360 and nothing came up on screen.... but i could hear sound, also every once in a while i hear something (like a snap or a click that comes from in side the xbox its self)

and then on the 27 (afternoon) the 3RROD came up to stay, i found out in the last hours of reading this forum that the error code is 0102

and now the red ring's wont go they just stay and blink at me sad.gif

ill post a video for yah

I previously had the 0020 error which I've fixed 6 months ago with a towel.

there is 1 more thing 2 prevent overheating...keep the consol atleast 10-15 cm over ground so dust and that kinda shit dont gets into the console.

Hi i had the 3 lights today spoke to mS my consol is 13 mths old they send me a return to base lable and told me they have extended the warrenty for fault code 0102 for an extra 2 years worth a phone call before you pull yours apart guys

ps i am in the uk
Chris583
ok so i got a broken 360 with 3RROD problem and did lawdawgs x-clamp fix and AS5 paste, however after overheating and letting cool for 30mins i still have the 3 lights. Error code 0020.

I tried tightening and loosening screws on the gpu and cpu, but to no success.
Tommorow I will try only using nylon washer on gpu instead of nylon, than metal washer under gpu above mobo. Also might try penny mod fix.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Really want to get 360 working so i can start playing COD4 which I havent been able to play yet! Thanks!
Chris583
after taking it fully apart checkin the thermal paste, re screwing it all overheating and let sit for 2minutes (lawdawg mehtod) than turning off, blasting with house fan and let cool for 10mins till it was almost cold to the touch....

i turn it back and get the same error i got after doing lawdawg the first time 0020, than i turned it on again and the error code changed to the 0022 error which is CPU. Any idea of how to fix...i am sure it cool enough but apparently there is a bad connection wit cpu could it be screws too tight? or too much too little AS5? I noticed some of the AS5 was smudge of the main chip towards some of the metallic things that surround the chip cover.

also it seems to jump between 0020 or 0022 errors on differant boot ups depending how cool it is

edit last 3 bootups are back to 0020
Chris583
tried the penny mod tonight but still get instant 3RROD on startup error 0020
pricemeista33
Well I finally got rid of my 074 error code. I found out that it was definitely the misplacement and inadequate pressure on the GPU and CPU. I performed the VGA mod and that's when it happened after removing the X-clamp replaced by a repair shop. After that I simply did Lawdogg's Xclamp replacement for it has always worked for me on all 8 of my consoles (thanks LawD). I also placed a very thin coat of AS5 on the GPU mem banks. I placed another thin coat on all 4 mem banks underneath. I'm good to go once again. Appreciation goes out to all of the Scene Geniuses for their greatful support.

anyone knows how to fix e75 error with one red light blinking on the bottom right side?
Doomeh1
I just got E 94 . I think it is my GPU due to the fact that lighting sources whilst in game show both the light they emit and tons of little red bars where the light is coming from. I do not know what is happening but I do heavily suspect the GPU. Anybody, has this happened to you/do you have a fix?

BTW: I have never opened my 360 so I suppose if no fix I must send it in.
Xbox Player
I will cut right to the chase here. I got the 3 red lights last night and so I just let it set to cool off. This morning I tried it again still 3 red lights. I found the error code to be 0022. I have looked through the first 19 pages of this thread and saw about 4 or 5 other people had the same problem but no one has said anything about what to do from what I have seen. I looked on the frst page of this thread and saw that it was a CPU problem but I do not know what to do so will somone please explain what it is you have to do to fix the 360 when it displays a 0022 error code.

Considering your level of intelligence, there is no way in hell that you can or will ever fix your XBOX 360, send it in to Microsoft and they will do the rest.

The Toothpick TRULY does work, give it a try people

Yup! The 'toothpick' method work's a charm biggrin.gif

My UK launch day 360 went tit's up on Monday of this week grr.gif

It had already been banned from live, however I use it all the time to play my backups as I didn't want to fubar my Elite and get that banned from live.

Anyways, I got the 3RROD with the error 0102 and after much, much reading I decided the best option was to try the easiest solution first. Then if that didn't work progress until the method used works or I run out of options.

Well, just wanted to confirm that the first method I used is this 'toothpick' one. I used four 'flat bladed' toothpicks, switched on, got 3RROD (just as with most x-clamp methods). So I left it on for about 20 mins, re-booted and it worked fine and has been all week cool.gif.

Am going to replace the fans next and see how long it lasts before I try anything else - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

can anyone help. i have E74. what do i do?
xbox360_720
Wow, thanks for the thorough explanation. Microsoft really screwed themselves not taking care of these problems before releasing the 360. At least the newer models are not nearly as prone to these errors. But for the rest of us, it has kinda been really shi**y!

Hi, I recently got the 3RLOD with a secondary error code of 0020 and all I had to do to fix it was open the case, unhook the fans and turn it on. Once It started over heating (switched to the two left lights) i set it infront of a space heater about 6 inches away with the heater on high for about 15 minutes. Immediately after that I shut it down plugged the fans back in and powered it back on and the problem was solved. Played a game on it with no problems. im guessing its just a cold solder joint somewhere. Hope this helps someone. beerchug.gif

Somebody fix 0003? Prompt that all the same it for an error. And how it to treat
FortunaEnterprises
Hey guys the company I work for buys store returns and overstock merchandise to sell online. We recently bought a huge truckload that had a lot of XBOX 360’s. About 900 units or so. We been repairing the units and here is what we discovered.

Code 0020 and Code 0102 are the most likely to work with compound replacement

Code 0020 is more likely to work then code 0102

Code 0110 turns into 0022 when compound replaced buy why? (Tried on 4 units)

(Guessing) Code 0110 and 0022 is an issue with airflow in the unit.
Haven’t fixed any yet but others online fixed 0110 with airflow mod.

(Research Says) Code 0021 is a time out issue with the Drive (haven’t fixed any yet)

Anyone know what Code 0021 and Code 0103 is?

If you get any with ERROR 67, 68, 69 – tri swapping out the Hard Drive

ERROR 74 Code 1022 is a problem with the "ANA" or "HANA" chip – has anyone found a fix yet?

Information on Other Problems

* No Video Output – Make sure your switch on the AV cable is on the right setting
TV or HDTV. Sometimes this helps. We do get some with this issue where this doesn’t help. We know the cable is good. Does anyone have a fix?

* Will Not Power On. - Try without the faceplate on. Sometimes the power button is jammed in and keeps you from turning the unit on.

* Bad Tray – Tri using a needle in the CD Drive pinhole. Sometimes just doing this a couple of times will fix the door for good. Also helps with getting the disc out.

* White screen says put disc in 360 can be caused if you swap drives around from multiple units. Its possible to be fixed but looks like a pain in the but.

uhh.gif Purple screen says something about the hard drive – what is this?

uhh.gif Dashboard says “unplayable disc” or doesn’t recognize disc is in unit – no fix found yet.

uhh.gif Are there any codes that can be fixed by holding the sync button when you turn the power on? “Clear Any Failed system updates”
