I recently fixed a console succesfully with the x-clamp fix, but I actually failed to even check what the RROD secondary code was before I fixed it. That is kind of beside the point, but what I was really wondering is if the x-clamp fix will only work on secondary error "0102", or will it work on pretty much any overheating code such as "0020" and "0013"?

Thanks A Lot!

is there any way to fix error code 1000
EraserHR
Got a 0102 a year ago, so I did the X Clamp Fix.
Got it again two months ago, so I used the heat gun method.
Worked fine until today. I transferred the Xbox from my room to the living room and wanted to watch a movie (Die Hard 4.0... fuckyeah, baby biggrin.gif).

First it popped out an E74 error. Turned it off, unplugged everything, plugged everything back in and tried to turn it on again.
Now I get a RROD with a secondary code of 0100.
I know nobody knows what 0100 means, but does some method fix it?

I'm getting really pissed off with the console... sad.gif

Well i have not had that code yet, but I would do the basics.

Check missing/broken componets, reflow gpu, cpu, ana, and ram chips.

If all else fails part it out.

New Secondary Error code.

0024

(not yet known)

or... At this moment my xbox is taken apart. no screws in the x-clamps or in the front led piece. I just wanted to share if anyone else has/will get this.

Edit:

I wasn't thinking, it was 0023.

I forgot 4 flashing= 3, not a 4 lol.

Nothing is missing or broken.
And I reflowed it all about a month ago. sad.gif

Part it out? What does that mean? blink.gif

Sorry for double posting, but I cannot edit the upper post anymore, and I wanna fix my Xbox ASAP.

I think I should heat gun the bottom side of the motherboard, as I haven't done that when I did the heat gun trick.

So here's a few questions about that:

1. When heating the bottom side, should I isolate anything?

2. For how long do I heat it on the low temp. and for how long at max temperature?

3. Should I heat gun the front side again (as I did that less than a month ago)?

Great thread. I've just fixed my xbox which had a 0102 then a 020 error. I got it for free because it was rrod and I've never even had an xbox before, that's how noobie I was so a great guide.

Anyway, it was 3 red lights and before I found this thread I tried the towel trick. It worked, for about 2 minutes then the picture froze with white patterns on the screen. So after googling I found this thread and found out how to find the error code which told me it was an 0102.

I removed the fan, turned it on until the 3 red lights turned into 2 red lights which means it's overheating. Let it cool down again and it did the same as the towel trick, a few minutes working then the white patterned freeze screen. Turned it off and back on again to get the rrod again.

Then I found out that if I pressed down on the GPU heatsink it would turn on but freeze after a few seconds. It would then stay rrod until I pressed down on the GPU heatsink again. If I left it to cool then pressed down on the heatsink, I would get a few minutes before the freeze happened.

So now I'm thinking that the GPU is overheating because the heatsink isn't fitted properly. I removed the x-clamp keeping the heatsink on and found the silver thermal stuff was just a square bit of nothing really. A big hole in the middle of it, I could touch the heatsink, there was hardly any thermal stuff there.

So I cleaned it up and the gpu chip. Applied new thermal paste and put it back. I used 4 nuts I had lying about instead of the xclamp+studs and screwed the nuts in finger tight. When I turned the xbox on it was rrod but this time it was a 020 error. Heated it up again until it had 2 red lights, let it cool off, but still had the 020 error so that didn't work.

I then loosened the nuts on the heatsink and turned it on. It instantly went 2 red lights for overheating so I turned it off. I then finger tightened the nuts again then gave them a little turn loose so they weren't so tight and turned it back on.

It worked! Green lights! I've had it running 4 hours now. The most I'd seen this xbox do was 3 minutes before screen freezes but I've this CoD WaW game running hours now.

So if you're getting the 020 error, your heatsink might be on to tight. Try loosening the nuts off so they're just less than fingertight.

This xbox is an old one, it has August 2005 wrote on the inside. Foxconn.

A quick follow up to this posted back in January, two months later and it red ringed last night with another 0102 error. I tried to load up Sega Rally and the screen froze before the race started then it red ringed after I reset the 360. I've been bouncing it around taking it upstairs and downstairs etc and with the heatsink only being screwed on finger tight it loosened it a bit I reckon.

Anyway, I took it to bits, loosened the screws on the heatsink. This gave me the instant two red lights overheat error, then I tightened them up again. It was still RROD'ing so I did it again, loosened them off to get the overheat again and tightened them up but not as much and it's back up and running. You don't have to use a spanner, the nuts are just tight enough to get a grip, not tight at all, I could remove them now with my fingers, if I tighten them up further it will just RROD. I also have a bit of cardboard slotted underneath the motherboard, just a little square piece sitting underneath the gpu and heatsink. For some reason it won't work unless I put that there, it lifts the motherboard up slightly and it seems to like it.

So if you're getting the RROD and you want to mess about with the screws on the heatsink I find it's best to let it three ring, loosen the nuts so that it will instantly two red light then turn itself off then tighten them again. In my case, if it's 3 red lighting then they are too tight, if it's two red lighting then they are too loose. I just keep doing it until it turns on, seems to work. And I found this xbox in a skip, thrown out, so it's not had a lot of love.

Hi guys,

I got the RROD about a month ago. Checked the error codes and it was the common 0102. I replaced the x-clamp for the GPU only, replaced the paste with a new one for both. (Not Arctic sync, not avail where I live). After this, I tried starting the unit and still get the RROD. So I tried the Hot Air gun trick, still get the RROD then the 2 red lights. I took 'Hardcore Gamer's' advice and loosened the screws, it goes straight to 2 red lights (over heat) and when its tightened, RROD happens. I also placed a piece of cardboard under the motherboard and the case right below the replaced x-clamp, still no luck. I just cant seem to get the right tightness for the unit to work. Any Ideas?

dreddy71
well, my 360 hasdied yet again. and it got stubborn this time. used to only get 0102's and twice i just got no video at all. heatgun/ xclamp play hass fixed it before... about 7 to 8 times. then its decided to give me 0022, which as i attempted to get it running, because i kinda stoped caring for its safety i got 0002 a couple of times. i found that replacing 2 mofsets could fix it, so i tried, but i blew one of the capacitors near them. luckilly, i got the spare parts from a second 360 with a dammaged trace... well destroyed trace now... anyways, when i replaced the cap, i put it in backwards and got 0031, which is unknown. so i thinks thats deffinatly a capactor issue, as flipping it around im back to 0022. just some more news.

HI people i was just thinkings is anyone ever going to make a full updated list of the Error codes as and when new Codes are worked out?

As alot of the codes still have no meanning maybe with could start a new topic just to find what well all think the error codes are and then have all our input then make a list?
just a idear? smile.gif

I had this error code when trying to flash a tsh943 ms28 drive. I looked down and it had one red light flashing. I turned the xbox off after checking the secondary code as I did not have in connected to a t.v. but had the av cables in the 360.

Connected the dvd drive and turned it on, booted fine no red lights.

Thought this might be useful some day...
gqthedog
alright new here but came across some thing interesting and thought i would share. a friend asked me to do an xclamp on his elite. wanted to make sure it would help so i checked for the error code and got 0020. thought maybe i had the wrong power cord and to play it safe tried my 175w brick( he swore it was the 200w) plugged the 175 in and it went green light, booted and said something about a security update was needed...thought yeah what ever and updated it. on the reboot went red light again, didn't check the code this time just booted holding the sync button and there it was green light after i cleared the update. this elite had not worked in a month, has been running a couple of hours now.not sure but was thinking 0020 could have some thing to do with the power supply? thoughts would be helpful?
cmd19872002
I got some info on the 0023 error.

Anyway, start from the beginning, I bought 10 xbox 360s on ebay, and this one was the only one flashing 1 light with error code E74. So it is an issue with the GPU/(H)ana chips having a cold solder joint. I used a heat gun to reflow the solder (with a small peice of solder to test when the surface is melting it and going for antoher 30 secs or so). I let it cool down for around 45 mins. Powered it on, worked fine. I figured it was fixed, but I did notice the fans was not spinning. So I worked on the other systems and came back to it in the morning to find a nice 5-9v power point on the motherboard that turns off with the system (ex USB power). But when I turned it on, instant 2 red lights, secondary code 0023.

I don't know 100% for sure, but I think it is also related to the E74 error with the GPU/(H)ana chips. Probley cold solder joints under one of them. I'm going to heat gun it again and see what happens.

Oh also, anothing thing, the CPU/GPU are getting no power as soon as the system detects the error, and the power supply turns back to standby even with the 2 red lights flashing.
cmd19872002
Update!

Reflowed the GPU and the Hana chips and it works once again. I think since this system has had so many problems, I'm going to make the fans run at 12v since they are still not spinning (voltage is only 1.3v).

I hope it keeps working, that kind of confirms that error 0023 is related to the GPU/Hana chips, atleast for in my case.

~Cmd19872002

Oh another thing, the system came to me with the X-Clip fix already done (9 of 10 systems are like that). So I hope this will end up being a perm fix (atleast 6+ months) so someone can get some good use out of it smile.gif.
cmd19872002
This system is messing up again. Now it is 3 red lights with error code 0001. Sounds like the GPU is now shorted out. what fun >,<. Time to heat gun for a 3rd time. I will update with more news later.
XClampman360
Solder melts above 300 degrees C, and if that happened the GPU would be pulled flat to the mother board with a big puddle of solder under it shorting everything out.

so you need to be careful thats were your error code is? heat gunning is only for one time only, after that success rate is very limited.. dry.gif

Gir489
Typical electrical solder melts at 190 degrees.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Anyway, I found out that E 73 could also be attributed to a problem with the chip, that has 4 holes on the board. It's to the left of the ANA.

I fixed it by placing a make-shift heat sink on it, by cutting out some flat metal, and attaching it with 4 long screws.

I noticed it when I applied pressure to the chip, the error went away. So, doing the same with the bolts and washers for it, the error went away.

Hey,

I've got section 1, 3, and 4 lit up with red lights. The power is still green. I have no error code. There is no audio or video output. Could it be that I just need a new cable?

Reactorman
shakeyplace
sorry if this is already covered somewhere here, but it is not listed on the first page under secondary error codes.... Here is my situation, my console gives the 3 RROD (green light on power bar), but only on cold boot, let it sit for 1-2 minutes flashing, reboot and the console starts up fine. When checking for secondary code I get all four lights flashing rapidly, continuously. The only other clue I have is that when started without video cable plugged in it does not give the four flashing lights one expects, but starts once cable is plugged in. Also, if video cable is unplugged while unit is on the four light do not start to flash! however the unit does shut down after several minutes without the video cable plugged in so it must recognise this, just does not give the four flashing lights error.

Any suggestions?

Yestorday I fixed a box with error code 0101. Seeings it was unkown i tried some different things. I heatgunned the ram chips, southbridge, GPU and CPU and the ANA chip and the lines inbetween them. Because the kid said he had one red light before it got to the 3 rings. He couldn't recall the E code. After i heated the chips i let it cool and did the hybrid fix. And its running to this date after a month of hard gaming with Forza 2

What you want to do is press the sync button and open dvd drive button at the same time to get the code.

Honestly, you should send it back if you can cause that's free. If not I'd recommend heat gunning it then doing the hybrid x-clamp replacement.

Well got my 360 off a friend who almost never used it. Was in perfect brand new condition and bought in 2007. After some ridiculous talks with MS people, I got registration/warrranty transfered to my name, but since its Only 1 red light, and not 3 they wont repair it for free.

Alas, now I have disassembled my xbox all the way down to the motherboard, and after trying to figure out exact problem with e74 1022 by reading these forums for 2 days, I cant really seem to get a universal answer anywhere. Looking @ motherboard, Its all foreign to me and I have no real experience in this kind of work.

So early next week Im going to try to do an x-clamp replacement following some of the guides here and if that doesnt work, going to try my luck with a Heat gun on certain areas..... so good luck to me, and If i dont manage to destroy my 360 completely ill try to post my results here.

Ill check back occasionally if anyone has any advice or small tips for me. thanks

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and my Xbox has been broken for the past seceral months and been opened at least 50 times and im at the point where i fixed the x-clamps so the red rings stopped and i just had to use a lighter to make the encoder chip work, but just the other day i accidentally burnt a couple things and i started freezing and then got the red rings with the 0102 error. I've looked around, and apparently there are several different things that could work, and I need to just start working on every possible fix so can everybody pls give me detailed ways on all the fixes please, that would be a huge help so I can try to fix it.
I'm trying to find a job so i can buy a new one but i just need a couple extra months.
btw, pls talk in stupid terms as this complicated stuff hurts my head

Usually if you heat gun it it works, if not, take everything off and make sure it isn't warped. Then take the box and heat gun it again but only slightly longer then you previously have. Then do the team hybrid fix.
Zakvvv666
ok, i got it to stop doing the rings somewhat and now it just keeps doing the E74 error with the 1022 code and i believe its an encoder chip problem, so is there something other than a heatgun i can use because i dont have one and also where do i buy a new encoder chip and how much will it cost?

you can't buy another as far as i know, but usally if you put pressure between it on both sides as you heatgun it, it works.

Hi to all,

I am having 3RROD and Secondary error code 0103 on my falcon board.

I did the xclamp fix, but it worked only for a day max. (tried the fix over and over)
My GPU heatsink gets burning hot while my cpu heatsink stays cold.

What I would like to know is whether the prob is with my GPU or CPU?
And secondly what options do I have?

Thx in advance wink.gif.

sounds like its not sitting correctly on the gpu chip try reapplying the thermal paste and removing a washer from under the heat sink i only use 1 nylon washer on the topside of the board and ive fixed about 8 RROL xboxs

Thx, Did what you said pnyce777.

What do you suggest I do now?

addition: in my case the E71 Error was that there was something wrong with the dvd drive.

So you're going to copy my post on xboxhacker and not give me credit? cool!

Also change that stupid method of calling 4 blinking fields 0 , it's 4.
HvxHcC
Yes, this information came from xboxhacker post http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?topic=11779.0

and you took it and put it into your list word for word. You guys also clearly didn't read the post because you still have wrong error reasons on here. Idiots.
twistedsymphony
I can't see that post because I don't have an XBH account (or if I do I haven't been on there in years and can't remember my password)

As I said in my PM I only post information that people send me here, I take ZERO credit for anything that is in this sticky... all I do is organize it I even state this at the end of the sticky before the credits.

This sticky has been around since 2006... with only minor updates about every month or so.

In the same breath you said we copied you word for word and then you said we didn't read it because it's incorrect... so which is it?

Do you want to help out and set things right or do you just want to come here to flame people?
HvxHcC
1) Some of your extended reasons for errors are bullshit

2) For someone who calls others who post this list scumbags, you sure don't check your sources

3) making an xboxhacker account takes 2 seconds

4) No I think I'll stop here. I was going to post more info but nevermind.

Hello iso smile.gif

The only reason it's listed as 0 instead of 4 is because that's how it was explained to me, and it's been that way since 2006 when the list was first created... the person who gave me that information apparently got it directly from someone inside MS... if you have a good reason why I should change it beyond calling me an idiot I would be happy to.

Also I DID try registering at XBH but I STILL can't see your post

IPB Image

My "sources" are people who send me PMs and say "Hey I found out THIS for error code X" I don't know how exactly I'm supposed to "check" that, particularly when whatever they give me isn't able to appear in any search engine and I'm physically locked out of where the source actually exists.

I only do this because I'm trying to help out. You feel you've been wronged and I've been doing everything I can to try to set it straight but it's hard to do when I just get a random PM calling me a scumbag and accusing me of things without actually giving me anything to go on.

i sent my elite back because it had a small fault but worked fine just wanted to see if MS could sort it out. got it back with a flashing light pattern of to red at the top two green at the bottom and they keep switching every second wont give a secondary error and no display if you plug it in to the network cable after 30 seconds it stops doing this an give an e49 error code with one red light but will still not give a secondary error code.
microsoft say there live test reported it as modded but this is not the case, but they wont touch it any way.
could do with some advice please.
HvxHcC
That is not a hardware failure. Basically you're going to need microsoft to fix that for you because it's looking to be reprogrammed. If you truly didn't mod your box I would called and ask to speak with someone in charge and not deal with the regular phone lackies. If you did modify your console, man up and go buy a new one because it's your own fault and I don't blame them for not fixing it.

Is this the correct phone number of xbox live support? 1-800-784-3433

Have you tried contacting them? Is there a pay or this is toll free?

truly not modded but can not get anyone at microsoft to sort it out as they say I tried to mod it and there test software is 100% accurate. LOL.
bought this console new the same month it says it was manufactured so find it hard to believe it was swapped before I got it either, its never left my house so no one else could have modded it.
some call center robot tried to claim whatever was uploaded could have come from another modded console that I had used my memory unit on. they do liketo makethings up at the call center.
