Could just be your dvd drive is getting old...

Could also be your hard drive is starting to take a dump.

Might sound kinda stupid but take the top off and listen to see if you can determine if its the hdd or the dvd. Whatever you do DO NOT touch the brown/cream color thing with all the white junk on it while the box is on!!!!!!! ohmy.gif Thats the psu and it will shock the holy hell outta you if you touch it while powered on!!!!! grr.gif

remove the power cord from the HDD and power up the xbox, if it still makes the sound it is more than likely your dvd drive, if it doesnt make the sound its probably the HDD.

Does your xbox still read discs ok?

I have a question, in the US the power supply is 110 volt right? Here in the Netherlands it's 230 volt, so if i get shocked, will the shock be worse and am i more likely to end up six feet under? ohmy.gif

It's not the voltage that kills you it's the current. It all depends on the resistance state of your body and your connection to ground and wether the current flows through your hart area and how long the current is flowing. I've touched 230 vac many times and it doesn't feel nice indeed but I'm still alive.

As Krayzie said, its not the voltage but the amperage that will kill you... it takes less than an amp to kill a person under ideal conditions. You may not end up 6 feet under but could be 6 feet away from your box when you wake up afer it knocks you on your ass. Highest voltage I had the unfortunate experience was 75,000... it arced right over the heavy insulation and around the pair of linesmen pliers I was holding, but not for long... they ended up about 10 feet away when my body flexed. I almost wet myself on that day. LOL

Certain Xbox power supplies were faulty when made, I think it was the foxlink type.(hence the "Recalled cords" to ease the masses, but didnt solve the REAL problem) You really should either get a new power supply or perform the repair your self before continued use of that unit. Especially since your already seeing the sparks... a certain sign of emminent failure.

If you xbox is modded, I would hurry and FTP your EEPROM files to your comp, incase it's a hard drive problem.

I got my xbox in 2001 i believe, i still use it fine.

It still works quite nice too. When i boto it up however, it makes these 2 sounds. Its been doing it for years, and still has worked perfectly.

It sounds like a "moo" but deeper lol it does it twice then boots up fine. "Moooooooo moooooooooo"

if it's the mooo that i'm thinking of it's definitely a motor problem, and therefore either the hdd or the dvd drive. your'e going to have to try to isolate the problem (by listening to either drive) to figure out which it is and then go from there
alexpb1
Yeah it's the DVD drive. As i just upgraded the old HDD
