I don't know much about it at all, but if you have a directx plugin for 3ds, you can make a directx XFile, which you can then use KernelBase's KernelBasher (the newest Flubber Text Tool) to use that Xfile.

Well, I've never made my own, so I can't really give you input on that.. I just changed mine to a preset that came with KernelBasher, (in my case the XBMC logo). It was retardedly easy, just picked the .x file and applied..

ps, I'd like to know what you come out with, as I'm bugging my friend to do me up something in 3ds as he's been dabbling with directx recently..

Well I seem to be having some issues here so here are a few questions.
1) Where do I get the directX plugin for 3ds 8?
2) Where can I find tutorials on how to do this since I have never done this before?
3) Wasnt there a site where you could download premade ones?I swear I was at one just dont rememebr the site name.
4) Worst case cenario.Even though I realy want to do this myself is there anyone willing to creat my custom "xbox" text for me? Again this is absolute worst case cenario.

I haven't done this before but...
When you download Kernalbasher from x-s
here It installs a PDF.
The PDF is a tutorial for useing 3ds.
EDIT: The PDF has links for a trial version of 3ds. It might be different from 3ds 8.
Does that help? Have you seen that already?
I'm really curious what you come up with. Please keep us posted.

here is the 3ds xbox text templates. i attempted this a long time ago and havent had any success. basically i was always over a couple vertices and indices. i couldnt make it smaller. maybe it was because i had 3ds max 7 installed, i dunno. so i gave up. i hope you have some success then i did

ps:
here is a video of my xbox booting up.

Thank you all so much for the help.Yea i been having the same issue with the number of verticies.I cant seem to get any lower then 183.Is there some other program that can handle an image with a higer amount of verices?
crazy8
Feb 24 2006, 03:57 AM
Myabe someone might want to post this in a sticky or something. But I just found out in order to decrease the number of verticies or keep from having to many is to do the "optimise modifier" I did it and it works.Took me down to 107. Thought I would let you all know.

in 3ds ?
crazy8
Feb 24 2006, 08:19 PM
Yes it is in 3ds.
r1sky
Feb 25 2006, 02:05 AM
so basically that will be on the modifier list then clicking on Optimize and save it. heh, it seemed to work on my side. are you using deep exploration? if so what version?, im using 2.0/2.1. i inverted the face orientation but the text didnt come out so i tried again w/o inverting the face orientation and the text came out upside down and appeared on the bottom where the "MS" logo usually appears. well im almost there, i need to mess around with my setting some more i guess.
crazy8
Feb 25 2006, 05:23 AM
Yea I have been havin some issues to.As far as the number of invertices I have where they should be.The count I have is 107.Yes I am using deep exploration.Im using whatever the newest version is right now.The one issu I am having is similar to yours so if you are able to corect it please share. My issue is that after doing my text in 3ds max everything appears to be strait and perfect but one brought into deep exploration its like diaganal for some reason.Well even with this flaw i thought i would try to imbed it into the BIOS anyway and give it a shot just to see what would happen and as expected I saw no change what so ever in my "xbox" text.Ill play with it when i get back home from the weekend and if you find something or a way to fix it and get it working it would be greatly appreciated what your finding are. Also after we get all this together i will make an updated tutorial on this in reguards tot hese lil setbacks and how to fix these things.
Thank you much keep me / us posted

i saw a tut a while ago about using blender to make the directx file. anyways im using deep exploration 2.1, originally, mines were coming out diagonally as well till i read a post about using deep exploration 2.0 and this is how mines show up:

Feb 25 2006, 07:00 PM
well looks like me next step is to get deep exploration 2.0 then.I will try to find out how to correct this in the newest version also.Once I find that out I will post my findings.
Thanks for the info.

Ok finaly got it all figured out and working only now i have a few questions.
1) Can I do the same thing but using iND-BIOS? If so how?cuz what im doing isnt working.
2) Considering to my knowledge all that works is a xecuter BIOS, but for some reason I cant change the color of my "X" or my "XBOX" text so how would I do this.
3) How do I go about now maiking a custom "X"?Like if I wanted it to be tux or some other image instead of the "X"?
4) I have found custom "MS" images. How do I go about getting one to work? what do I need to do?
Think thats all for now thanks alot for all the help everyone.

i couldnt tell you. im only testing with indbios. as for the x logo. might need to do some digging on how its done or even having a template to work off of but i doubt that. seems its gotta be done by scratch.

Mar 6 2006, 11:16 PM
Ok well since you are using the iND Bios maybe you can help me with that since imhaving issues. What settings do I need checked in the iND Bios config maker app? Are you using the FTT tool to combine th .x file into the iND bios?
Everytime I do this with the iND bios just as I have with the X2 bios it never works.Only the X2 bios so far has worked.Minus the few issues there with tryiong to change color and stuff.
r1sky
Mar 6 2006, 11:47 PM
i dont use the FTT tool. once i have the .x with the lowest vertices i just sent the .x over to my xbox. indbios reads the files from C:\ as text.x. thats how i got the one i posted earlier to work to some extent. i only use the inbios configurator app to make it show up. these are the settings i use, the ind-bios logo shows up by default but if you add your text.x to it, your custom one shows up.

Ok here is what I have so far.As I said before once I have everything together I will peice together a nice tutorial. It will be directed twords iND-Bios users but will have little bits that will aply to Xecuter bios users also.I will also add in some of the obsticals that I/we have come across to. So for anyone who may have some of the same questions I have done som reasearch and have tested this on both X2 bios and iND-BIOS. So here it is.

Your setting should be as shown above in the iND-BIOS configuration app.

Now for those of you who want to give this screen a whole revamp here is what you needed
Custom "X": To replace this with a different image you will name your file "xlogo.x" and place it in C: on your xbox. You can also find these .x models online.Either way the file needs to be re-named as "xlogo.x".If you choose to creat your own you should beable to just fallow the tutorial that come with the KernelBasher program for the most part.
Custom "xbox": To replace this is pretty much what we have gone through in this post. The steps for this can be fallowed in the PDF document that comes with KernelBasher.I will compile some of that info into my tutorial. But for iND-BIOS users you will just name the .x file you made/downloaded "text.x" and place it into the root of your C:
Custom Logo: Now im sure some of you wonder why I call this "logo" and that will be answered in this description. To replace this your options are pretty much limitless. You make an image that is 200 X 34 pixles and that image can be anything you like. But the image must be saved as a 24 bit BMP, 32bit will not work. When you are done creating the image save it as "mslogo.bmp" and again place this in the root of your C:
Now I didnt mention it above in all 3 of the descriptions but all of you images that you use to do these mods have to obide to the size of the "stock" images that you are replacing. They can not be bigger and if they are some "squishing" will accure.
Even though this is just a simple lil deal right now this should answer some questions to those who are looking to do this and use the iND-BIOS.I will try to peice together a tut when I have time that will cover everything.Any thoughts/opinions/prases on this would be greatly apreciated.Thank you to those who have contributed to this post and helped me on this.

Well the only things I have been wondering and kind of wanting to figure out is:
1) Is it possable to take a .x file i.e the tux-linux.x (comes with KernelBasher) and resize it to be used as an "X" replacemnet? It is rather large to even use.
2) Is there a file for 3ds max that has the "X" so a custome image can be made and the size will match?Kind of like how we use the "sample" file for the text.
3) You can make a custom flubber also. Maybe see if you can find a way to make one or test out the one at
http://www.allxboxskins.com it will need to be called "flubber.x" and put in the root of C: Also see if you can find documentation on how to make one I will also look and see what I can find out.
4) One problem I have noticed atleast with the .x files supplied with KernelBasher is that when I use them as an "X" replacement the show up upsidedown for some reason. See if you can find a way to correct it.
As far as actualy testing out any .x files, I dont realy have any that need testing. But if possable it would be great if you could see about the things I just posted.I also will see what I can find out about these things to.Thanx alot

Reviving another old topic. I would love to figure out how this guy here did this here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv6lf8vPqf8He has a custom flubber animation and a different logo.
There was a lot of info in this topic but its the only topic around and its old. I found that and all of the sites for logo's a special animations are gone now. Can anyone share with me some of there custom .x files I just want to try something that is not the default. I would love to get my xbox to say XBMC instead of xbox. Is that to much to ask?
