According to the rumor section of the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), F.E.A.R. may be headed to the Xbox 360 in 2006. Currently a PC only title, the game shares some technology with Condemned Criminal Origins, which could facilitate a port of the game to the console.

The rumor appears to be based on the (reasonable) logic that if the technology is already in place on the Xbox 360 -- via Condemned -- surely Monolith won't hesitate in porting their flagship FPS to the console. Apparently we should expect an announcement shortly, so stay tuned for more.

fear would be an awesome addition to the 360 line. but isnt the game a little dated. it would be ideal to make a sequel or so

They could easily make it a sequel, the game is mostly a bunch of fighting seuqences in rooms after the other. Great stuff but also pretty easy as a developer to make more of those.

Your typical opponent in a typical first-person shooter will kind of stand there and shoot at you. If you're lucky, your opponent might duck behind some cover. In F.E.A.R., the bad guys will knock tables and bookshelves over for cover and pin you down while a buddy runs up and tosses a grenade at you. Or they'll leap down from a ledge and flank you. Or they'll sneak behind you and shoot you in the back while you're busy fighting other soldiers. These guys are smart, tough, and ruthless, and they're the best AI soldiers we've ever battled, which is why F.E.A.R. features the best artificial intelligence of the year.

Aside from this unusual shooter's fantastic artificial intelligence and its distinctive, horror-themed premise, F.E.A.R. offers plenty of visual fireworks. The game features a "slow motion" ability that lets your character slow time, and in this mode, you can see exploding grenades warp the air around them while the bullets and sparks fly. In fact, even though the game has good character models and animation, F.E.A.R.'s particle effects for its explosions and gunfire add a special kind of intensity to the game that you'd normally expect to see in a Hollywood action movie. When bullets start flying, sparks erupt from gun barrels and clouds of dust and shards of glass get kicked up from the environments. Perhaps no other shooter has had such spectacular firefights, which is why F.E.A.R. takes this highly coveted award.

F.E.A.R. works because it elevates first-person shooter combat to cinematic levels. And while we've certainly seen games with movie-quality combat before, you've never seen anything quite like this. Playing F.E.A.R. is like battling through a John Woo movie like Face/Off, because when firefights happen in this game, they're downright glorious to behold. Bullets tear chunks out of concrete and wood; blinding clouds of dust and debris fill the air; bodies are torn apart or slump on the ground; and the deathly silence of the aftermath contrasts so sharply with the sheer chaos that erupted only moments before. Gunfights in F.E.A.R. just feel right.

yes such an ugly game even though most computers to this day struggle to run the game at max settings

for a game that shairs some technology with condemned (one of the best looking 360 games to date) it is far from ugly.

like deftones is saying dont go by the screenshots. you tell me one game where the screens did the game any justice. if you knew any better you would realize that this is one of the most technically amazing, advanced, and impressive games to date in the FPS world.

fyi the game engine it uses isnt know for being very efficient

yes its a resource hog, just like the doom3 engine, and the quake engines. does this mean they arent impressive engines? no, also IMO these engines are very resource heavy because they support the latest and greatest technologies. yes maybe not the most effecient but still head and shoulders above some other engines out there.

no, those engines still compare to newer ones and are rather EXTREMLEY efficent on nvidia cards.....i can run a doom3 engine game at max settings 1600x1200 complimented with some AA and AF, i cant even touch that in fear or BF2

again if you actually understood what was taking place on screen you would be singing to a different tune. as unoptimised as the engine may be that doesnt change the fact that it has just about every technology effect being used for the good of the game and atmosphere. if you dont agree with the artistic nature of the game, fine, but its rather ignorant to call it ugly.

i dont give a shit if ps3 could render my dog scratching its as in real time photorealisically......the games released on sony consoles dont interest me at all

Errr.........FEAR is out you lunatic. I thought you had a 6800Ultra in your PC? I play FEAR with my 9800pro, so quit acting like FEAR wont run on your GPU that is far faster than mine. Even without AA, AF, SM3.0, and even running at 1024x768 @ 20-30fps; FEAR still looks stunning on my PC.
