With read and write support to the Xbox 360 harddisk and memcard it means you'll be able to share gamesaves over the internet, 360gamesaves.com has a gamesaves database and upload script waiting to be used :-)
You can connect your Xbox 360 HD on your PC via an SATA controller, the memorycard can be connected via USB (see how here or here).
The Xbox360 saves are usually in /content/<profileID>/<titleID>/ of partition3 on your Xbox 360 HD. Xbox 360 gamesaves can be transfered to another Xbox 360 console and profile, but all 'LIVE achievements' will be disabled of course (achievements are linked to the LIVE profile). A dumbed down version of xplorer360 made specially for gamesaves manipulation will be released soon which should make it easier for beginners to find their gamesaves.

Also interesting - this tool will allow you to move over your old Xbox 1 gamesaves to your Xbox 360 (they will probably have to go somewhere in /partition3/Compatibility/Xbox1/ or /partition3/H2/), something that was impossible up to now.

But of course it'll also allow you to navigate the rest of the disc, so you can check out all the stuff located on the drive, like the music stored on your drive or what you downloaded from Xbox LIVE for example (demos, live arcade, themes, videos ...).

Note: Before people try to launch crazy ideas again: No this does not allow you to copy retail games (signed for XBOX360DVD media only) to the HD and play them. It's a tool that gives you access to the Xbox 360 HD and Memcard from a PC, it does not hack/bypass any security.

*UPDATE* BUG: One confirmed bug has been found and can be harmful if not known. Do not attempt to insert a file with the same name into a folder. If the filename already exists, delete it then insert your new one. Look for an updated/fixed build soon.

*UPDATE2* From 360gamesaves.com:
With the first batch of bugs coming in, one being a bit problematic. We've wrapped all those fixes up into this build. This is beta software and should be used at your own risk until Final versions are available.

*Bug Fixes*
* Off by one error in filename length check fixed
* Recursive delete functions fixed / Delete from tree fixed
* Injection of file with same name fixed. Asks to overwrite

Wait, I heard that Xbox 360 game saves were locked to the console/memcard that they were created on (seemed kind of stupid and like nonsense as you wouldn't be able to take them to a friend's house then). So, I assume this is not true then?
Man, I must get my info from bad people.

This is great news, it was only a matter of time before this happennend, I guess.
I hope someone will soon release a Memcard to PC adapter so that we do not have to do it ourselves, it wouldn't be too hard or costly if mass produced (I relise that kind of messes with the whole idea of modding, but I suck at soldering).

I REALLY want someone to load up a softmod and run it, just for the hell of it. Obviously it won't work, but I'd like to see what happens. Watch it say,
"Nice try, Buster. Not this time. Try the DVD drive firmware." Or some crap like that. smile.gif

RE: Locked Saves...
If you transfer a save from one profile to another, it displays a message on the 360 that transfer is possible but achievements will be blocked. Will try and get a screenshot.. I wouldn't doubt 2 or 3 titles (Team Ninja) for example might lock their profiles STRICTLY to console or profile. But the few titles we've tested work just fine.

RE: Adapter...
Already working on that one too. Hope to have them available in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out wink.gif

That news is even better.
I assume by your use of WE you are part of the team that developed this great tool?
If so, thanks very much, and I am interested in this picture if you can get it.
Also, if a save is locked, then what message do you get?

EDIT: And the adapter sounds like good news, I might have to get a memcard (not many of us "Premium" guys bought one)! Any idea on possible pricing, if it isn't top secret?
simpull7
Does this allow copying of music and pictures to the 360 HDD then too?
Angerwound
You can move whatever you want to the hdd.

As long as whatever your moving is signed in any way. Then yes, it's movable.

I believe soundtracks are stored in /partition3/mindex/media/
They appear to be standarad .wma with a wierd header. Someone could easily create a soundtrack editor, or you might see one in a future xplorer build.
Smiff-n-Wessun
So, time for the first N00b question.. About copying movies directly from the pc to the HDD. Which partition are they in (the ones included with the xbox), and what format should I use to even attempt to play them in the xbox menu. Im gonna try to do it anyway, just because. But Im wondering if anyone has tried it first, to save me some time.

I figure if we get the format, and the location, maybe we can watch what we transfer.
danolimitpro
so in theory couldnt one copy a theme, icon, arcade game. that he has paid for then upload it to the internet and have other download and copy it to their HD?
Angerwound
Content moved to another profile will not work. Anything within a PIRS archive package, Demos, Downloaded Icons, and Themes all reside in this category; will be signed to its original profile and will not work without the original owners profile as well.

If your buddy wanted to share his profile and his content, you could do that. wink.gif

Only saves may be moved profile to profile, console to console.
mike69
so how exactly do i connect the 360 hdd to my pc??
t_mac_ca
this is great news
Angerwound
Through an SATA controller.
mike69
could somebody find a link to a cheap SATA controller??
The iNSOMNIAc
What we need is a small adaptor to link the hdd in its housing to the sata line on a pc so we dont have to rip apart the hdd caddy to get to the sata drive.

Has onyone got a working pinout for the connectors on the hdd caddy. maybe we can make a small adaptor or do a design and someone can mass produce the little things and sell them.

I borrowed a friends HD and loaded it up with demos(cause he has no i-net), and I don't have a premium. I boot my xblive from my profile on my mem card. So I am wondering how this is possible since my profile is not on his hd and the demos work fine. So it seems its signed to the hd or other device and not the profile itself?

Does this include Xbox Live Arcade games? And can a profile reside on two Xbox 360 that both connect to XBL?
So:
Xbox 360 ONE has profile X
Xbox 360 TWO gets profile X along with Live Arcade and gamerpicures from Xbox ONE

Can Xbox TWO use these gamerpictures and Live Arcade games and both be logged onto Live at the same time?

Sounds like they can be. Clarification?

That would be excellent since I don't like the idea of opening up the hard drive.

You can move the Live Arcade games over but they will not be FULL packages on the destination hdd or memory unit. They will work but in DEMO mode, since they are signed to another profile.

Two consoles can use the same profile/content, as far as logging on at the same time to the live servers. I don't know. Give it a shot! wink.gif

Hopefully this will some how allow one of these Dev's to figure out how to place a divx codec on there so we can watch our divx movies over the 360 media center.

Ok, tonight I re-imaged the X360 HDD using HexWorkshops 'Disk->Save Sectors...' command. I file compared it to the image taken with Linux's 'dd' command and there were no differences. I'm now confortable that HexWorkshop doesn't alter the disk on read. Additional info - the Linux 'dd' command took 52 minutes to image the 20GB X360 HDD using my hardware, HexWorkshop only took 20mins. smile.gif

It could be that the Windows OS still 'labels' the disk when it's accessed for writing. unsure.gif To check this I'll use HexWorkstop to write the image back to the X360 HDD, and then reread it and diff again with the Linux HDD dump. Results to follow.

So im assuming as long as I dont try to access the HD in explorer - windows wont corrupt the drive,

I heard that windows tried to label the drive or prepare a partition and corrupts it???

Alright what would be the main "coolest" thing you can do? I mean I know you can't download stuff to get the achivments with, but what other cool things are there available then?

No, only to attach the 360 hdd casing outputs into a format usable by the PC.

Nothing is official, these are merely our goals.

fyi, the link on the front page is borked

and does this by any chance support xbox 1 fatx?

my first thoughts too. can we add or modify the codecs? that would be sweet
MrSpumonte
Will the the adapter be along the lines of USB straight to regular encased Xbox 360 HDD? That would be great if so. This can be a huge step towards the main goal. Great work and keep it coming! smile.gif

can we add mpegs and divx (even though we dun have codecs) over to the HDD?

I don't see why not. I'm sure you could put .docs on there as well.

An interesting thought goes back to the Kiosk disk again. Does anyone know exactly how it was signed yet? If it was indeed an all media flag, then it would possible run from the harddrive :\

Yup, signed for HDD use. However any .xex's executed on the harddrive seem to be stored in PIRS archives, signed packages, which also have their own mediatype.

The 2 .xex's on /partition2/ xbox.xex and xefu.xex are both flagged for HDD use. So possibly replacing one of these with the kiosk disk and inserting a legacy game to launch?

Possible ideas.

Ah, I havent stayed current with everything obviously. The PIRS archives would definatly hold it back at least for the time being, but from whats been in the news and stuff its being worked on. Good to know though, and good job to the Xplorer360 team so far smile.gif

In response to the question about Xbox FATX, yes, it supports readwrite to Xbox FATX just fine:
IPB Image
Right now, it was supported with just a compile flag, but next build will autodetect original Xbox drives, memory cards, and images as well.

BUG: One confirmed bug has been found and can be harmful if not known. Do not attempt to insert a file with the same name into a folder. If the filename already exists, delete it then insert your new one. Look for an updated/fixed build soon.

Please be careful about this until an upgraded build. Could potentially be harmful.

I was able to connect my 360 hd to my sata on my mobo. The xplorer360 seems a little glitchy with creating folders, so I'm going to wait until the new version to try to upload all my old xbox saves. In theory I believe it should work sense it is the same type of files.

I was able to extract the insidexbox video, does anyone know how to get this to play on a computer? I'm thinking it's just the header that has to be rewritten, so any help would be appreciated.
Angerwound
Could you explain these glitches/glitchiness. Can't be fixed unles you explain. I haven't experienced any problems creating any folders.

Ha yeah sorry about that. The problem I am having is that I am trying to create folders for original xbox saves (\Partition 3\Compatibility\Xbox1\UDATA). I am able to create the folder but when I insert a file it says something to the affect that the program could not find the end of the folder and does not copy the file. I can copy files to folders that are already created by the xbox 360. The problem only occurs with folders that I create. Also when I try to delete the folders I created nothing happens, I refresh by starting the program over and the folder will still be there.
After putting the drive back together, the xbox 360 reads those folders as “unknown game” now. It does give me the option to delete these “unknown games” so I am going to try that out and see what effect it has on the folders. I am going to play around with it some more tomorrow and see what it will do.
Idna0829
Rock on!! Congrats on the development!! I just d/l'd the file, but I have to wait until I get a sata controller to play around with it. One qestion I have though, is it possible to put media files on the 360 HD now or are we still facing codec issues? Would be NICE to be able to throw some mpegs up on there, and even nicer to be able to get a divx codec on there, but I'm sure that's not going to happen until we get bios/unsigned code access. Anyway, Angerwound, Roofus, nice job!!
DivyX
Great, great job.!!
Keep up the magic. =)

I'm trying to test your software, but it doesn't want to open my hard drive:

-I click on drive/open/Hard drive or Memcard..., nothing happens
-I click on drive/open/Image, I select an image of my drive, nothing happens
-I click on drive/open/Image, I select an image of my MemoryCard, it works

For you information, my drive is a Samsung. Maybe you check the data at 0x2000 to validate the drive (without the serial number of course).
burzum
Great news, this software really rocks.
As far as I know not all game files are flagged, so what 'bout if we edit a non flagged file to force the 360 running our own code?
jizmo
Has anyone tried replacing / adding WMV files to the HD yet? The built-in player has a pause option, so it's much more usable than the one on the kiosk disk.

Secondly, it'd be a great if someone had an uncorked HDD and made an index out of it. Then run the first BC package and index the drive again to see what's changed. Then the second BC package, and then the latest Live! upgrade. This would clarify exactly what's changed with each upgrade on the HDD and would be good addition to the Free60 project.

I'd particulary like to know how and why do the profiles let running some of the unlisted BC titles, like the OXM demo disks and the semi-working demos on it. In the best scenario the profiles would be reverse-engineerable option files that just flagged a few options for the emulator and would thus be alterable so that the crappy BC support in x360 could be enhanced.
jams_bst
Has anyone tried comparing an arcade demo to it's full version to see what data is different? When you already have a demo and you purchase the full version it doesn't require you to redownload the game. It simply unlocks the demo. If someone can determine with a hex editor or something what information is added/changed then we could create patches to unlock them, right?

with this tool or in future versions, would it be possible to replace the 20 gig sata hd with a bigger drive to use with our xbox360, now that we can read and write the drive? or is that impossible?
