Fourth Quarter 06' would only make sence. To let MS have another holiday season with no compition would mean big trouble for sony.

I am not really sure. They have not finished anything. They are still deciding on the specs and overall design of the console.
So they have to do that, then actually mass produce them.
Test the console for bugs, get the launch titles ready, Market the console, get it out to all the shops.

They are no where near ready. No-one has played a single title on it yet and sony have tight lipped about the whole thing. We know hardly anything about the console/the games it will have.

The spring release is never gonna happen. Never. Even if they totally rushed the whole thing, it still wont happen. Get real.

I can see it being later this year for japan and late 2006/early 2007 for america and later still for europe and the rest of the world.

September - December here in the US. That's what a lot of analysts and experts are estimating, and it's their "deadline" for release. Shopping season adds to the hype, just ask MS.

Based on how behind the hype curve they are, and with no actual physical beta products to speak of I cant see anything sooner then Q4 06 release IN JAPAN. I doubt they'll pull the same stunt as MS and launch world wide, If they miss the Q4 06 deadline in the US then there's no rush (because they missed the boat) so I suspect a US launch probably Q2 07.

They havent even had a working model yet, my brother works for sony and he even says they are watering it down now. They arent putting a HD inside of it, also Blu-Ray is gone, since the disc speed is still too slow to keep up with hd-dvd. the controllers will NOT be bluetooth, they are using usb controllers instead. So pretty much the ps3 is going to suck (i knew this from the start anyway lol)

I am not even going to comment on all the people who say 2007. It will come out Q4 2006. Sony is all about hype. They will be tightlipped on the whole thing until a couple months before it is released. They will announce it over the summer and have a launch right around october for jap's and december for US and Canada. 2007 will only be a figure the Euro's and Aussies and rest of the world will see.

I'm not exaclty a huge fan of sony, but I highly doubt they're not gunna have wireless controllers; not having a hdd is plausable, but I would hope they're not THAT stupid; as for blue-ray not being there, who really knows at this point... it seems they'll never finalize it, but if they don't put it in the PS3, it'll be the stupidest thing they've ever done since that's what they've hyped the most and it'll be what gives it the edge on everything else. And it's not too slow. It's pretty much on par with current DVDs (give or take on certain aspects).

I think theyll definately release it during the holiday season. Finished or not, I would guess thats a heavy duty deadline to be met. Other wise theyll be shooting themselves in the foot. Not sure if the US will see launch in 06, I would think so, but not sure.

i personally think it will be on shelves for x-mas in japan, and make it to the US/Euroupe in Q1 06. i would be shocked if there was no blueray/no wireless controllers (though i wouldn't be shocked if it supported wired and wireless like the 360 except coming with a wired controller), and i wouldn't be too surprised if it came without a harddrive, and then had an addon harddrive for sony and their 3rd party developers to not support (much like the ps2 harddrive )

I agree with this all the way. And I would also like to add that IF they release before christmas in the US and they don't have the numbers of units needed to meet demands there is going to be an uproar by all the people who don't want to comp out again. That shot MS in the foot and it will be even worse for Sony. I seem to remember being laughed and yelled at for camping out for a 360 on the second release just before christmas. I would rather they don't release before christmas and make enough of the things to keep the kids from whining again.

sony has stated yesterday that the launch of the ps3 would be in the fall, that would be the jap date and us will probably follow 3 to 5 mts after that, which would put it Q1 2007

Well Sony has a habit of not delivering everything they promise. PS1 and PS2 had a ton of things that got knocked off the list by launch date. Hell if they get two tv out signals I'll buy one, but I wont believe it'll have it 'till I see it. I can't see them coming out with EVERYTHING they promised by Christmas. If it hits the shelves before the 25th it wont be packing everything they've said it would. So by that standard I say Feb 2007 for what's been promised.

There's absolutely no way it will make a Spring launch like they've claimed unless they have managed to maintain an almost Apple-like secrecy about the current status of the product, which is basically impossible given the number of dev teams that have to be involved.

The dev kit as far as we know is still basically a PC size-wise and runs at a fraction of the supposed final speed. nVidia has publically stated that they have not recieved any orders for RSX chips. The "Cell" has yet to be seen in the wild. Blu-Ray is all but stalled, along with HD-DVD.
All of those things add up to at least 7 months before we see the PS3. I do not expect to see anything even close to playable at E3, not even to the point of the early X360 demos running on the G5s.

Late 2006 only if they choose to NOT deliver on some of their promises (like someone else said about the PS1 and PS2)

Early 2007 if they stick with everything that they have stated it will have/support

Maybe earlier if they have already kidnapped some dev teams and began manufacturing components in some "hidden" plants in unknown countries...

i think there is a lot of optimistic people in this thread. my bet is just before xmas in japan, and late Q1 for usa. the rest of the world will probably get it Q4 07.

but seen as there has been nothign concrete from sony, even that may be a little optimistic

Pfft what load of rubbish. Even if they release it 2007 the PS3 will still outsell the Xbox 360 worldwide in the end. Have you not been reading all the stats Xbox-Scene post from time to time. The 360 has a chance at winning over the US market but the US population certainly does not represent the world market when it comes to consoles.

well i think you shoudl look to the past for an example of what to expect.

the two odd years that the ps2 had over teh xbox meant that it shat all over it. the only thing that propped the xbox up was live. now if sony lets MS have the market all to theirselfs, then the 360 will have a HUGE install base when the ps3 launches, and there wont eb a huge amount of sales for it. honestly, i belive that a centralised gaming service for the plastion is the only thing that will keep it alive.

but for teh japanese market, its a different story. the jap's will allways go teh plastation, no matter what happens. MS cannot seriously think that they can win the greater market share in that country. but they are trying to steal sales, and are succeding.

if sony hands teh market over the MS fro two years, and does meet the launch (in america atleast) in q4 2007, then they can kiss most of the global market goodbye.

and by the way, im not 'xbox fanboy'. it tell em as i seem em, and how the trend sof the past show what will happen.

The past tells me it's the games that win over the console. Not release dates, not power, not specs. Games. PlayStation - Hands down winner. PS2 same thing.

I love my Xbox and I aint no PlayStation Fanboy either, it's just common fact they do better games. Here is a prime example... Race Driver 3 just released this week. You'd think the PS2 and Xbox version would be simular. Nope. PS2 outshines the Xbox equivilent in every way. Realistic car handling, realisic car physics. Xbox version is all dumbed down and turned into an arcade game. Some even say the graphics look better on the PS2!

Once Xbox start making games properly and stop catering for average or midrange users only; start growing some balls and taking some risks with some games, then and only then will I be worried Xbox will take over PlayStation.

we all have our own opinions on that. games make or break a console, that is for sure. but th reason why the ps2 has far more games is becauyse it was out for ages before the xbox hit the scene. it will be different this time around

yeah, ps2 had time to work out the bugs and figure out how to take advantage of its games before the xbox even launched. i would not call tekken tag and fantavision a strong first impression. the system was unbelivably hyped by sony, and it was leaps and bounds more powerful then the psx and n64 (i'm not mentioning dreamcast since i think sega could have made it last longer if they supported it), and i belive this sold alot of systems. by the time xbox launched, sony had a huge install base already and because of the headstart, already had some good games.

this time around, MS has that headstart, and a year from now when ps3 launches, it may be the same thing all over again in MSs favor. all the people who say the 360 has no must have games right now, look at any systems launch. i would take doa4, nfs:mw, condemned, perfect dark zero, and call of duty 2 over fantavision any day.

It wasn't just the two year lead of the PS2 that made it difficult for the xbox; it was also the 5-6 year lead of the playstation that sony had on top of that. I don't think the xbox will come out on top for a while. If Sony completely fails for some reason this time around, the xbox will be successful next generation. If sony is still successful, xbox won't have a chance till a couple more generations after this one. It's just how it is.

i think the ps3 will release(whereever it does) around q1 2007. but personally, im planning to get the revolution if nintendo gets the controller to work good b/c to me, console gaming is all about multiplayer, and nintendo does pretty good with that. also, if i ever want to play a graphically amazing first person shooter, i can just boot up my computer.

console games are meant for multiplayer. whoever has more good multiplayer games will win the war.
