Hey everybody,
I've got a softmodded xbox, using unleashX as the dash. Recently I acquired a copy of the collector's edition of Jade Empire. I wanted to see what kind of cool things were on the bonus disc, so i chucked it in. Instead of displaying its label as "Jade Empire Bonus" or something like that, it just said "CDX". I thought nothing of it and launched it anyway, then all I got was an error 21. I nearly shit myself, rebooted my xbox, and found that it was still working without errors (thank christ). Just for shits and giggles I tried making a hdd backup of the bonus disc and launching that, but got the same error. Now if i try to go to the m$ dash, unleash just freezes on the loading screen. If i try to use an xbox live enabled game and go to the xbox live part of that game, error 21.

What's the deal?

It's not the JE SE disc causing you problems. Your softmod is blocking you from going on live, unless you have been on live after softmodding your box and haven't changed anything since. Not too sure why you get the error 21 with the JE disc though, as that doesn't need to go on live to update it.

When you try to go to live in a original game, does it say you have to configure the network, then when you try to it goes to error 21?

I haven't actually ever been on live. I'm just trying to get to the M$ dash but can only get an error 21 or have the xbox freeze on me. If i try to go live in an original game, it goes to error 21 straight away.

The reason i've been trying to go live in games lately is because i remember reading somewhere that it'll update your dash, and i thought that might fix mine.

I'm not that bothered by this problem, it's more of an annoyance. Still, if you can help, it would be great!

Yes mate, I know what error 21 means.

I've figured out that the M$ Dash has somehow become damaged or corrupted, because it will not load under any circumstances. What I really want to know is how can I either:
A: Determine what part of the M$ Dash is screwed
B: Restore the M$ Dash, fix it, whatever
