you can install nkpatcher .06 and format the F drive using xbpartitionar and 32kb cluster option.

As far As my studies go you can use .06 and it will still work. Currently have about 450 gis all on F with no G: drive available.

I need more info on how to do this. I don't really know what .06 or .67 is, and how to use it.
In addition, are there any advantages/disadvantages when using one of them and not the other? (other then one's personal liking to have or not to have a G drive)

The chip on my xbox broke so i decided to try and get it softmoded using this method.

First problem i had is that the drive that was in my xbox was unlocked and unlockx,hdlock and the other tools tell me either the drive is not lockable, couldnt lock it or whatever.

The drive is a maxtor 60gb 100ata 5400rpm, so i assume that its not lockable.
So i pulled out a maxtor diamond max9 from one of my pcs to use as i always used them in the countless xbox's i chipped so i know they lock.

When i try to run ndure it tells me there is no xbox disk so i cant go any further with this drive, the drive is blank with no partitions on it.. was formatted in ntfs in windows.

How can i get it installed with this drive???

Allso when my xbox was chipped i used configmagic for doing whatever with it, so can the new drive be locked using the TEAMASSEMBLY master password? will the xbox accept that??

If not the 5400rpm maxtor has a eeprom backup in f/apps/configmagic/data/eeprom.bin

How can i get that file on to my pc?? i could view it in xbrowser off the ndure cd but obviously could not copy it to cd... i have a 1gb sd card and card reader could i some way copy it to that or even get the ndure installer running from that???

Tried to lock the harddrive with teamassembly password which obviously didnt work.

How can i get hold of the eeprom.bin on my old xbox hard drive... i can see it but so far havent been able to succesfully copy it to anywhere that i can access in windows or get xboxhd tools to locate it and generate the keycode off the cd.

@ewjX, ndure install by default install .06 ( means F drive only) and you can choose to have .67 ( F+G). Advantage/disadvantage depends on you.. with a large F drive, you can put everything on one partiotion but if you choose F+G and configure the dashboard to look for games in both drives then theers no difference..

to format the drive, get xbpartitoner from xbins or somewhere else and run and format.. easy as that..

@£iquid-!ce, since the harddrive is unlcoked, you can acces the hardrive in windows with xplorer360 ( also works with xbox)

Hi, I used your tutorial and completed everything successfully on 2 xboxes. After I backed everything up, I began copying some files over to E:\apps. After that was finished, I proceeded to turn off my xbox and turn it back on. However, it now freezes at the UnleashX screen. This has happened to both of them. Any suggestions on how to rescue them?

Nevermind, I was able to fix the problem. It must've had something to do with the default dashboard. I booted up an evox cd and changed the dash to evox and they both work fine now. Thanks for the very easy to follow tutorial.

Ok I know I posted this as It's own topic but I think I'd get a better response here (I tried to delete that thread but couldn't) please forgive this noob

but,
I installed the softmod, typical setup, this was like the 5th xbox I've done for a friend. But something wierd happened this time, when I try to boot to unleashX the xbox gives me error 21 but I can cold boot to the ms dash just fine, so I'm thinking i messed up the disk when I set it up for the hotswap, then I tried to undo the mod and try again but now I cant get xboxhdm to even reconize the harddrive. Any help is apprecaited

I upgraded with nDure successfully, it took less than 5 minutes, said it had done, so i pressed a key and it went back to xbrowser.

Then i turned off pc and xbox. Replaced xbox IDE cable on drive and rebooted.
It showed the normal loading screen but then just gives a black screen and the hard drive ticks repettitively. The circle on the eject button is glowing light orange (but NOT flashing).

I have been into xboxhd to try and restore the backup.
I get messages telling me that the the 'hd is unlocked' but 'No xbox partition table found on /dev/hda'

I can play games if i boot the xbox with the game in the drive but cannot get to the dashboard. Could you let me know how to proceed with either restoring the backup or getting the softmod completed successfully!

Can i check the contents of the linux.iso disc i burned to ensure i selected the correct kernel version?

Can i pause a game, hotswap and restore my original hdd state from option 5 in Ndure?

Can i run AID from a dvd and fix it from there?

I havent got to the bit where i enter the <<Eggsßox>> code yet so i presume the box is not properly modded yet?

Hi all, this is the first time for me modding any xbox, but I am running into some problems after a few days of trying to troubleshoot it on my own.

Earlier this week, I went through the softmod instructions here and everything seemed to be working fine. Unleash X loaded beautifully and I thought I was in business. When I went to test my first game, I used my original Halo 2 game from a cold-boot to make sure originals still played fine. It booted, no problem.

So I turned it off, ejected the disc, then cold-booted without a disc in the drive. It threw me straight to error 21. Great, I thought I really screwed it up somehow. Then I found the "error 21 on softmod" thread, explaining how to revert back to the original xbox dash and try again. I went all the way through that, but now this time, instead of error 21, it just hung on the xbox logo. Original xbox games would still boot though. So I power it off, go to bed so I can clear my head and try again tomorrow.

Now, as of this morning, the very first time I cold-boot my xbox with the original Halo 2 disc, it sends be straight to error 21 again!!! Now, it won't even boot originals. No matter what I try, it gives me an error 21 message.

I'm still trying to hotswap it without success, because during the linux load, it gives me a 'seekcomplete error' and never lets me load any tools to recover C.

I'm worried that my xbox is hosed, but I'm still willing to try more things. I did perform the backup step during the softmod attempt, but I don't have the eeprom.bin file, or don't know how to get it yet. I just think that I'm digging myself into a worse situation here the more I mess with it, so I'm hoping that someone can please point me in the right direction....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I think I've got it working now, whew!

I re-read the "art of hotswapping" thread, and tried disconnecting the DVD cable to do the hotswap. This time, it gave me an error 12, but it unlocked the drive for me and I was able to recover the original xbox dash files using xboxhdm.

Now I'm going to be sure and grab that eeprom as soon as I softmod it again!

There's a ton of info on this site, and I'm going to absorb a little more before doing anything else. Thanks for the awesome board guys!

Hi, need a little help, please!

I got a virgin 1.6 Xbox, and followed this tutorial. I disconnected the Xbox's DVD drive from IDE, powered on, hotswapped on an error 12, ran NDURE, and installed it with option 2. Then, starting the Xbox in the poweron button loaded the original M$ dash. And starting it from the eject button launches an error 21.

1) I now believe I should have added something to the boot CD to install a new dash with FTP capabilities, right?

2) Performing the tutorial again, this time installing a dash, will solve my problems?

if you get ms dash on power button.. set the date to currentdate and time and restart..

can some tell me how i can put this on a DVD i tryed copy the files from the ISO the the dvd and it didn;t wokr so i tried making a bootable dvd ISO and whn it boot loard of Xboxhdm i tried running all the files in ISO image from dos and non booted

It sounds like you're trying to burn it as a data disc instead of the proper way. What you have to do is burn the ISO file as a disc image, not data. If you do that, and your computer can boot from the DVD-ROM drive, you shouldn't have any problems.

I used the softmod and everything went perfect. Now I tried to change my HDD (from 8G to 160G) I made what the tutorial said about replavcing the HDD. But when I used configmagic to extract the eeprom I left the original HDD unlocked(dont ask me why) and now my xbox wont start and I cant copy my original C: and E: the worst part is that when I tried to convert the new HDD it failde because I left the c and e folders empty. So now I cant run my xbox with the original hdd and I cant create a new one and I have no backup of my c and e. Is there something I can do. HELP PLS.

if its unlock then you can view the files with xboxhdm or with xplorer360 in windows.. download this:

connect your harddrive to computer.. boot to windows and you should be able to extarct the files with xplorer 360 fom xbox harddrive..

I can;t burn the ISO cd image as an ISO dvd image it won;t work i tried making a bootable dvd iso and thn whn it boots into cmdpromt run xboxhdm but i don;tnow which file 2 run lol and i tired all and non worked

I 've read in AID's "readme" that in order to install AID over a softmod, C: drive must be unlocked...

After installing through linux everything went fine. I backed my harddrive and installed unleashx. Afterward i turned on my xbox and the X-box screen appeared but after no dash board. I tried to rehotswap with my computer but it wont access xbrowser anymore. Can anyone help me Plz

First off - Hats off to Textbook - great tutorial! Everything worked perfectly.
I installed the softmod yesterday - everything was working, not one error for the entire mod.
Installed XBMC in E/Apps/ and that worked fine.

Then today, I proceded to upload some emulators etc into E/Apps/ and
after rebooting the box from the unleash dashboard, it will not boot into the dashboard anymore.
I have no idea what is wrong.

It does still play backup games, etc (burned dvd's i picked up overseas) but it just sits at the Unleash X screen (directly after the first xbox screen) and freezes.

I did happen to write down the HDD key. Thats about it. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I also installed the UDDAE "backdoor" if I can use that to restore the dash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

download any boot cd like slayers 2.7/AID etc. Boot the cd and ftp into xbox and copy a fresh unleshx copy..

you just need a cd burner.. but cd dont boot well in xbox.. its better to use dvd/cd-rw

i just upgraded my hard drive from 20gb to 80gb, and while doing this i thought i may as well create a hard drive from scratch with slayers c and e, then mod that with the disc (i've got the eeprom.bin file). the 20gb one that i had before did not have a msdash, and i thought i may need it (or someone else may need it if i sold it) to connect to xbox live. now when i turn on my xbox, it asks for the time when the power has been disconnected. it never used to do this when msdash wasn't around. i leave the power disconnected a lot, is there a way to stop the damn thing from asking me for the time, all the time? it's really annoying...

I was wondering - although the CD and the associated readme.pdf say to not use any of the tools on the cd for a softmod - I read earlier that someone just installed the evox dash and it worked fine.
Is this really possible, or am I going to seriously trash the softmod by replacing the dash with evox?

to add - I can't get the ftp working when it boots in slayers disc...i'm thinking I should have used xISO or something else to edit the ip address/etc BEFORE I burned it? I also have a knoppix live disc that works, but I don't know how to mount / get into the xbox hd to edit the files.

I connected it and ran Xplorer360 but there are 4 partititions which ones should I copy(they are named partitions 1-4). I tried with partition 3 and 4 (I'm almost certain that parition 4 is my E:) and copied and created a new CD. Well there was no use. When I chose to create a ne HDD form scratch it stopped once again and said that there are no valid C: and E:. I locked the old HDD with the tools on the CD but the xbox still doesnt start. Are there any "blank" C: and E: wich I can use to create the new HDD?

@levymetal, if you have shadowc working.. under normal unleashx go to C, rename xboxdash.xbe to something else like xbox2dash.xbe..

@zeeon, if you have shadowc working.. then install a dash.. I think it installs to E:\dashboard\ folder.. when it copies files to E:\dashboard folder, delete the E:\dash folder and rename dashboard folder to dash.. Or you can boot a backup copy of unleashx from E:\ndts\unleashx.xbe using file browser..

@zoomer40, your eeprom should be in the E drive.. can you see what files are in what partition using xplorer360.. E drive should have dash/apps/ folder in it..

I copied the partition with dash; appz etc into the E folder in xboxhdm the problem is that dont knowo which partitiion should be my C: (already tried with partion 2 and 3). When I start creating the new HDD the xboxhd tool says that there are no valid C and E files on the CD. So I was wondering if there are some "blank" C and E I can download and use them to create the new HDD (I dont care about the savegames and stuff on my old hdd I just want to get my xbox working )

did you found your eeprom?.. if you have the eeprom then you can download slayers disk 2.7 , it has C drive files in it..

hey kingroach, did i screw up? ok i did everything as described, but I just couldn't hotswap with my dell computer. So i figured the whole point of the hotswap was to unlock the xbox hd for xboxhdm to access. So i found this

Its basically an upgrade to the firmware which flashes the harddrive to unlock it, a lil loophole. So i unlocked my harddrive, connected it to my comp, booted xboxhdm, installed ndure into the harddrive. Except when I got to the ndure folder, under primary mas C, where my dash data, xboxbook, audio and fonts should have been listed, there was nothing. So I put the harddrive, now unlocked with ndure installed according to the tut, into my xbox, and I got a red green christmas lights error message (xbox needs service)... So umm, what do I do now. My harddrive is still unlocked, ndure is inside, but my xbox won't load it because I'm assuming something went wrong.

It's me again . I downloaded slayers disk, copied the c and e files form it, created a new CD built the large HDD form scratch. Everything went fine, locked the hdd BUT when I run the xbox now it says error 06 ( unable to unlock HD). I've triend with unlocked HDD and it says error 05( HDD not clocked). Does this mean that there is something wrong with the EEPROM. If so is there a solution? Please help couse this hdd upgrade has turned into a real pain in the a**

@zoomer40, did you get the eeprom from you xbox hard drive?.. .. is there any pother files like hddinfo.txt.. if there is then that file will have the hd lock password.. you can lock manually by typing:

lockhd -p "password"

@spookoman, you are kinda screwed.. you need to have the eeprom or hd locking password before you attempt to unlock it.. since you didnt mod it yet so you dont have the eeprom/password.. You will need a modchip and xbox will boot.

the strange thing was that I couldnt find the eeprom on the original HDD, I had ftp-ed it (the EEPROM) on my PC before everything went wrong. Is there any difference when the HDD is locked automaticaly manually?

king roach, so there's absolutely, absolutely, zero ways, nill, to get my xbox back to working order without a mod chip? I mean, the hd is unlocked, so I can still access it with no troubles whatsoever, it just doesn't seem to be retail harddrive, So can't I just use slayer evo. to make a retail hd? And if a mod chip is the only way, what chip would u reccomend and are there people that can do it for u?

I've just tried to unlock the HDD and then lock it again using the pasword created with the EEPROM and the xbox still gives error 06 ( cannot unlock HDD) ..... Im desparate

ok, I am having a little difficulty witht the xboxhdm. When I locked my 30g drive in there it locked it on Security Lock and I have used the password over and over again to no avail. It will not unlock. it is not frozen. Please someone help me. I was gonna install NDURE 3.0

p.s.s. I used the MASTER PASSWORD : "XBOXSCENE" it did not work. I keep getting a error that the drive "Command rejected by drive"

does the hard drive still works with xbox?.. the harddrive freezing is mostly a bios/motherboard issue. Try resetting the CMOS setting ( in motherboard bios).. or better if you can use a different computer..

no the xbox does not read it I found a program that can unlock it. but it costs moolah. I cant even unlock it in xboxhdm it says done but it stays locked.there are 3 yes's one on lockable, on is on locked and another on SECURITY LOCKED. and the normal master password does not work. it gives the error above.
