1. Get Ndure 3.1 from the usual place. No reason to use the older version.
2. Ndure is a softmod, not a dash. Kingroach Ndure is a softmod package that comes with unleashX as default dash.
3. If you want a working msdash that dual-boot with unleashX, you'll need stock msdash ver 5960. Get those from Slayer's 2.7 or CASH 1.1 disc. You'll need a xiso tool like qwix to extract the files from the xiso.
4. Ndure will work with original game disc or game backups.

ALRIGHT ill give it a shot ill DL the 3.1 Ndure and try to extract the MS dash from slayers disc...do i extract the entire C folder and replace the C in HDM Ndure folder???then i create the boot disc and hotswap and do everything again..<<<do u think i have to repartition the drive and run Build HD from scratch or i just run the Ndure installer and it will automatically include the MS dash

Yo an update on my situation...my xbox plays burnt games and original only MS dash dont work but when i put a burnt game or audio it goes to the unleashX dash but if i turn my system on with nothing inside it gives me error 21 and on the unleashX dash when i goto MS dash it says xbox.xbe dont exist or sumthing like dat...anyways i havnt tried to restore yet too bizzy testing out burnt game....i found my power issue was caused by my fan plugg coming off when i had taken apart the xbox so it overheated and tunred off on its own giving me the tvoutput problem and orange light...i think thats what messed up my first attempt softmod since i was using the xbox power it must of turned off while the Ndure was installing.....but howver sometimes this week i will attempt a restore and Re-softmod then tryin out the Slayers disc autoinstaller

make sure you get a back-up of your eeprom
to do that use file manager and go to e:\ndts\default.xbe it has a option to back-up the eeprom i think it either backs it up to the backup folder or nkp11 folder they are on the e:\ drive

In the ndure installer, use option "2" to install the softmod and see what happens..Or try creating the harddrive first with using ms dashboard files from slayers disk and then do the softmod. Error 13 means files in C drive are missing.

I have a sony crt hdtv, and am using ndure+xunleash
I love it, but there is a pink overlay that happens when it boots up. Seems to happen shortly after it switches resolution to go to the unleash gui.
Commerical games run fine if i boot with them, but if I run a commercial game after loading unleash, the color overlay appears on the games too.
I have a bootdisk by frosty called phoenix bio loader or something, it boots into a file manager, and that boots fine too, with no pink overlay. I can then use the file manager to launch the defauldash.xbe on the e drive, and that boots up with no overlay too.
Anyone know how I might be able to fix this? I have it working, but Id rather not have to use a boot dvd then swap to a gave if I dont have to.
Thanks.

Thanks for helping guys, I guess it was the kernel version i used (generic) because I wasnt sure of my kernel version and couldnt access it. But I found it, and reinstalled ndure and its look beautiful.
My daughter will miss the pink though.

You don't need access to the internet - a "newer" live-enabled game like Halo 2 will update the dash to 5960 for you.
However, if you're using xboxhdm then you can just build your softmod files on top of a stock 5960 C dash that you can get from Slayers or CASH, so you upgrade the dash as part of the softmod process. The Kingroach instructions explain how to do this.

Yes i realized that later, sry

luckily i had a copy of Nascar06 that just did the trick. Thanks anyway!
Just bought an XBOX 1 for a cheap price and wanted to to something with it

Complete beginner! After this i will have to install a dashboard like UNLEASHx or similiar?
And after that i can transfer files via rj45 with FTP app, such as .iso? I really hate stupid questions (especially if its already answered in so many FAQs) but i dont know where to search, a link or a short (but good) answer would be the world!

Kingroach NDURE installs UnleashX as the dashboard, and then you can use the ftp server (and client) in UnleashX to transfer music, videos and games to your Xbox. If you want to put lots of files on it you'll probably need to install a bigger hard disc.......
And your English is absolutely fine

Aight! That was myguess. Yes, i'll guess i just buy a cheap 40gb HD somewhere, thats like 10 great .isos atleast. Don't see the point of using it as a "HTPC" when u only can watch xvid, or am i wrong? can i watch .mkvs that are in 720p and 1080 res? (but then ofc the 1080 is downscaled to 720)

Ah okey thanks! i thought XBMX was a add-on program and not a dashboard. That makes it harder to install right?

unleash version in this "package", is that very out-dated compared to its latest version or just some few bug fixes? Do you know.
And when i transfer through rj45, does it work with a normal cable or must it be a "cross-wired"? (dont know the english word)

if you are connecting thru a router then any wire will work.. if you want to directly connect the xbox with computer then you will need to use crossover cable.

Just want to give my thanks to Textbook for this fine tutorial

Very well explained, worked as advertised but making sure the drive was unlocked was a bit hit an miss for me... my xbox is one of the latest builds I beleive, it seemed to work best by booting the xbox first, play and pausing the audio track and then booting the PC at that moment, leaving enough time to switch the cables before the prompt for option 1 or 2 at the start of the guide(it auto boots with option1 after about 2mins so you have to be fast, I did change the timeout to 600 but Im guessing that timer wasnt for that prompt).
I now have the latest XBMC beta install(which took me longer than the softmod did since I couldnt find where it was going wrong... seemed so simple, that and I was unaware there were rescue discs for softmods rather than reverting back to hotswap each time it reverted back to the original dashboard) which looks a fair bit nicer to me, Im quite pleased it all seems well worth the effort so far.

Is there a way to force 1080i through the dash though?

Check my sig for the XBMC resolution change steps. You'll need to run E:\ndts\default.xbe first to disable virtual eeprom

Thanks Idiotsfan but that method doesnt seem to be working for me. I loaded the xbe and then launced XMBC but the options were greyed out. I should have said I have a PAL xbox, maybe I'll need to set it to NTSC, I did try that from the menu before I launched XMBC but it didnt seem to make a difference.

Anyway I think I will be able to use the method he describes except I have to use the Enigma switch disk before I launch XMBC... one thing if it disables the eeprom, then how do you renable it afterwards?
Rocker1
Oct 15 2008, 07:32 PM
Ok it appears the Enigma switch disk works and Ive enabled 720p and 1080i

lets hope the settings stay(I take it the eeprom is re enabled automatically when you reboot?).
Which is the better option of the two? I realise they are pretty much putting the same strain on the hardware just wondered if one was more optimal in practise. Thanks for the help.

Oct 15 2008, 08:37 PM
OK the settings didnt stick afterall so I went and chose "disable Ndure" then loaded the switch disk up changed to NTSC and I get an Error21 code upon exiting... and its there when I launch the Xbox too... what happened?
Will a restore disk work on this error? Im guessing no because no disks will launch by the looks of it.
Any advice on the easiest way to get it working again?
Heimdall
Oct 15 2008, 09:32 PM
I think I've worked out why your settings aren't sticking, but I need to do some more testing.
As for the Error 21, try cold booting with Frosty's - but if you've turned off the softmod I'd guess that you're looking at hotswapping........
Rocker1
Oct 15 2008, 10:56 PM
So "disable Ndure" wasnt anything to do the virtual eeprom?
I took a guess on that theres options to enable and disable it so I figured it sounded like what youd suggested needs to happen.
Hotswap it is then... I just hope the Hard drive unlocks for me.
Ah well now Ive gone to this much effort I may aswell get it just right.

Oh crap

Error 5... Ive ruined my Xbox.
I used XboxHDM to reinstall Ndure, it was cycling on the black X as if to try and load a disk... so I put in the restore disk and had a look at some of the options... unlockhd so I did that looked for more options... then I decided to move the xbox away for the PC which meant removing the power cable... then it came to my attention that now my xbox wont accept my HD unless its locked... and it wont lock without the same password on my eeprom... damn it I knew I should have took a break for a bit before continuing.
Im not sure what to do now... I dont have the eeprom.bin(wasnt there a way to tell the program to store it in E/ when this option is selected just incase... there no reason not to if its possible) so the Xboxhdm is not helpfull. Tried a few programs that werent helpfull either.
I know theres eeprom readers that people have made... Im in the UK Im clumbsy with my old solder iron(which is not fine enough for delicat stuff unless you have a very steady hand) and the parts may be scrapped together for it from Maplin.co.uk but then it seems by the time youve bought all that and taken the time to make it you may aswell have gone the modchip route. Unless theres any members here that have one I could borrow?(worth a shot... will pay postage there and back)
Im so p***ed at myself right now, should have taken my time, came back to it tomorrow... Im using one screen for both PC and Xbox here so its been a little frustrating switching between the two when Im reading through lots of post to find the info I need.

If you intend to go the modchip path, you'll need a better soldering iron since D0 will be a challenge.

@ Kingroach
It was with Frosty's restore disk(I'd hoped in vain the pass it used would be stored temporarily somewhere since it must have got it from somewhere), Id already used Xboxhdm but the black screen with the green Xbox logo before the dash was strangely cycling over and over checking the DVD drive.
Im not sure why that was happening, had a look on Frosty's restore disk to see if there was a way to revive it there used the unlock feature while I had a look around and stupidly powered down to move my Xbox before locking it again.
@ Ldotsfan... yeah sorry about missreading your nickname earlier yesterday.
Thanks for the suggestion... if you wouldnt mind, could you pick the components from bitsbox.co.uk you would use if you were buying from there?
Heres what I found on there(never heard of these breadboards before... well not that kind anyway lol):
Theres two series of Zener Diodes 500mW or 1.3W. There are 5.1v values available for both:
http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/zeners.html 500mW x10 = £0.04
1.3W x10 = £0.06
4k7(or 3k9?) resistor (carbon film) Id need only 2 of these right?:
http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/resistors/cfr.html x2 £0.02 = £0.04
Solderless Prototyping Breadboard.
http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/connects.html80mm x 60mm = £2.99
Single Core Wire.
http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/connects.html11 x 1m strands = £0.69
9-way PCB mount D-connector socket = £0.40 would this mean I wouldnt have to rip apart a serial cable?
http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/connects.htmlThe last part Im not sure on... I dont have a serial port on the mainboard but the motherboard did come with what looks like a serial port connected by a ribbon cable for perhaps an empty PCI case slot which would be connected to some pins on the motherboard... but while just checking for a serial cable I found the external Modem blaster which I never used, it has a serial-printer port splitter on one end which might mean I could just use the printer port, which is promising.
So my first estimate comes to just under £6 including p&p.

Hello, I was hoping someone would know the answer to this!
I previously had my xbox softmodded with xbmc (it was done for me so thats all I know) but a xbox live cd was put in the xbox and that softmod was gone. So I followed this tutorial and now unleashx is a dashboard on the xbox (to be honest I have no idea why...but it is!)
So I was wondering how I could delete all files related to xbmc without effecting any of the unleashx ones...are they related at all?? I want to do this because my xbox keeps freezing first during game play then progressivley more often after that. For some reason my snes cd seems to work fine...but even original xbox games freeze and I dont know what to do.
I dont think the problem is with auto saving like other posts suggest since it will freeze during load...or even as the dashboard is loading. Another thing that happens is a burned CD will be recognized as an audio CD and then xbmc will load....without any options!
Hope someone can help!!

You can only use the xboxhdm unlock option if you have the xbox eeprom file.
In such a case, trying with another pc is the only alternative.

I partially answered this in my reply to your thread

Hello, I have a question, I just did this procedure(at the beginning of this topic) using Ndure 3.1 and XboxHDM 1.9. I used option 2 in the Ndure script(when booted from CD-Rom). Everything works fine, except when I turn on the xbox via the eject button, the button blinks red/green and I get error 21 on my screen telling me “Service Required”. Paragraph 4 and 5 of the pdf manual that comes with Kingroach 3.1 explains exactly how to build a softmod file set on top of a stock C dashboard. Hey, thanks for the guide! It worked like a charm for my OEM harddrive!
I am having a problem though putting in a bigger hard drive as per your instructions.
I can't figure out how to get configmagic to "extract". When I'm in configmagic on my xbox I have the options of loading eeprom from .bin file, build eeprom from. cfg and some other options but no "extract". What do I do?
Can I just use the eeprom I backed up through evox, the one that goes in E\apps\evox\backup?
I tried doing that and I put it in the correct folder under xboxhdm. I then added my C and E drives to xboxhdm. After I run the make-iso-win.bat I end up with an ISO that is almost 1.2GB. I tried burning it to a DVD with Alcohol 120% but my PC will not boot from it.
Please anyone help would be great!
Heimdall
Dec 22 2008, 11:40 AM
Use "Create Backup Files" to save a copy of the eeprom - but it will be the same as the one you've got from Evox!
I've never tried burning an xboxhdm .iso to a DVD - but 1.2GB is miles bigger than you need - it sounds as though you've put loads of apps and stuff in the E partition folder. Slim it down to just the stock C plus Kingroach C and E files and you'll get an image of around 200MB, then once you've built the disk and installed it you can ftp the rest of the apps and stuff, or copy them across from a separate DVD.

Dec 22 2008, 12:45 PM
Ok. Turned out it was music and save files that were making the ISO so big. I shrank it enough to fit on a cd along with the eeprom. I went through the process of running ndure and setting the hdd up. At the end I then locked the hard drive using the eeprom (or at least i told it to lock, i think it did).
Anyway, now when I put the new hdd in the xbox I get a 21 error message.

Dec 22 2008, 04:31 PM
Sorry for the double post but I don't see what happened to the edit button lol.
Anyway, turned out something went wrong either when I made the cd or during formatting of the hdd. I ended up just formatting my new hdd with the disc I made for the initial softmod and then locked the hdd with the new disc I made. That worked.
Everything is good now.
Thanks again for the great guide Textbook! And thanks Heimdall for trying to help me!
