I must say that I have played all the ghost recon games and I was super excited to get this game. But I am left unimpressed. The game looks great, sounds awesome, and the idea is great. But I find the gameplay and control far to cumbersome. I like the idea of being able to hug the wall, but I find myself getting jammed onto it far too often. Also the control layout doesn't seem exactly intuitive (I am aware it can be modified). And lastly the response to situations seems awful. The gun always has a delay before firing (it isn't reloading) the bad guys can see you from three buildings away looking the other direction and pick out out laying on the groud under a bush. Like come on. That just ruins the whole thing for me. It isn't realistic at all. I like the fact that, based on realism, that certain weapons can shoot through walls. But when an enemy sees you through a wall on a plain that is about ten feet lower than you, impossible for him to see you, he can hit you through the wall guessing and do considerable damage or death. It's just way to far fetched. The game is a technical marvel, but it is a terrible play experience. I loved the other ghost games, I love rainbow six, but this one is going on ebay.

It's too bad.....

P.S. I posted this within another thread, by accident clicked the wrong button.

and yes I am aware of the typo in the titles, comes with typing to fast without paying attention...lol

I like almost everything about the game..

My only problem with it is in the multiplayer, when you are on the red team, your teammates show up as red as well, which matches the enemy color when you play in single player. I know that once you know, its not a big deal, but every game I have been in so far on the red team my teammates are dumb, and continually teamkill.

Damn this makes me mad.

Sorry to hear you have these gripes. My experience so far has been the complete opposite. I found the hugging the wall part to be very realistic, if you want to disengage, simply hit the Y. I agree the controls aren't perfect for everyone, and do take awhile to adjust. The gun delay that you spoke of I have noticed as well, but I've found that depressing the trigger fully remedies that, whereas a partial depress, won't start the firing. I chalk that up to a possible realism issue with these types of weapons, and think that was done on purpose. As far as the enemy catching you offguard and knowing your position, thats simply an issue of knowing all the gadgets at your disposal. This is a highly tactical game, and you need to progress slowly and with great caution. You will always be outmanned as this is a small mobile attack unit. Make use of your maps/layouts, uav, chopper and vehicles first before moving into hostile territory, this has helped me immensely. The first few levels I was a bumbling, stumbling fool, but I slowed it down and became more tactical in my thinking. Give this game a second chance, if you have the patience, because in my opinion its the best.
Rubix42
I haven't experienced any enemies shooting me through walls yet, but they sure do know their way around better than I do!

I chalk it up to them being Mexicans fighting in Mexico City. The know the lay of the land, and I don't even speak Spanish. . .

Anyways, if you go slow and take your time to peek around walls, you should get the hang of it. It just has a much different feel than other games.

I do intend to give it a second chance, but it just doesn't seem like I am in control which for me immediately breaks the sense of realism. I am a huge Clancy fan so I will give it a second go, I have only dedicated about an hour or so to it.

Are they teamkilling because they are that stupid that after the first time around you see yourself in red which means your team will light up in red? I guess they must be total retards imagine them playing COD and being the German team do they Kill all the Nazi's before realizing those were their teamates. Or are they teamkilling just to be complete assholes? I had a couple of those Wednesday night, I gave them a bad reply on their Gamertag and they were placed in the pool of Gamertags that will be avoided when I'm finding a room.
dabigdilla
well, i gotta say that the red team diamonds is very misleading, specially after playing right after some single player, where the enemies are in red. and besides, EVERY mp game that has enemy indicators has them as RED enemies.....even PDZ where you are on a red team, enemies are red still.

so, after a friend and I BOTH played some single player, hopped on mp, we both were under the impression that the red diamonds were enemies, and ended up killing each other until we figured it out at the end of the game. kinda weird if you are used to fps and red enemies.

please, its not a stupidity thing. i mean, who ever thought of green enemies?? or torquoise? effing weird, but once you get used to it its not a big deal at all. i'm sure this is the case with many new players to this game

I think they just didn't know any better. I eventually took the time to type them a message on live and they stopped killing. But I just think having enemies in red makes more sense then having your teammates in red if you are on the red team.. to me red == bad.

My biggest (and probably only) gripe with GRAW is with the game-finding in multiplayer. I spent 25 minutes last night just searching for a game that wasn't already in progress and that I wouldn't have to wait for the round to end to play in. Why on earth does it put you into games that are already in progress, why can't it just do like Halo 2 does and put you in a lobby that hasn't started yet...so frustrating, I really hope they find some way to patch this.
I've considered the possibility that it's because not enough people are playing it on live (as compared to Halo 2), and in that case there's not much they can do; but if it isn't because of that then I hope other people are annoyed by this as well.
sp3cialk
I haven't had many problems finding a ranked game... I usually do a quick game or whatever and the most i've had to wait is 5 mins... get in a lobby and we wait til the teams are even and launch... maybe 10 mins tops from loggin on to playing a good game... huh.gif
miggidy
How much of this is fair crticism and how much of it is legit?

I have a different take at it.
The game is difficult, and with higher difficulty comes frustration.
(Just ask anyone who's played Ninja Gaiden)
And with frustration comes irritation. Irritation with simple stuff that otherwise wouldn't bother you if the game wasn't as difficult. Something like remembering to tap "Y" when you're behind cover, for example....
pop.gif
deacon187
they must be just simply stupid because at checking my map to see which way to go on my first multyplayer game on red team i could easily see that my whole was red as the fact blue in no way possible could advance that far that quick, it seems common sense is a huge lack these days

Category 5
The look sensitivity is a little off, but I am getting used to it. cover mode ids just stupid. i am constantly getting stuck to walls when i'd prefer to cover look and duck myself manually.

The helicopter levels are hard as sh*t, but they do help seam the levels together.

I have a list of gripes with this game, but it's still my favorite and one of the best out. Mainly my biggest gripe is the vsync issue, but I guess they chose gameplay depth over game engine optimizations to spend the extra few months. I can appect that....but please, in the next installment lets get vsync and a tighter framerate throughout.

I just can't stand it after crawling around on my belly for 30 minutes being uber cautios, and then getting shot out of nowhere only to start the level back at the beginning. ...although it makes you fear enemy fire a hell of a lot morethan in COD2 or some other game where a few bullets don't matter much.
sp4zzj4zz
My only complaint so far is the aim sensitivity. Not that its too slow or too fast, but the fact that it's not very smooth, or fluid. It just seems very shakey and rough to me, like PDZ. It's hard for me to get totally absorbed into a game if I'm not comfortable with the controls.

For me, using a 1280 by 1024 monitor, I get letterboxed single player and full screen multiplayer.

My concern with this is, while im getting 720p on singleplayer, the multiplayer might be 640 by 512 doubled, as I hear this is how you get full screen 1280 by 1024 resolution. Id rather have letterboxed 720p online to be honest.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yeah, but when you are in the heat of battle, you'll look around as fast a possible to try and find your enemies. It's good to move nice and slow when you are covert, but when some Mexican pops you just because you can only concentrate on one person at a time, it kinda sucks. In real life, when you are looking from left to right and know exactly where you want to look, you don't make it one fluid movement.

All they had to do was give us the choice.

It was only a matter of time until the dumb witted babble fitting of a six-year old came up. Hence the reason I don't play Halo 2 online anymore...

On another note I got to play around with the game more on the weekend and I am more satisfied with the game. The way the gun fires is something you just need to get used to. I still get stuck on the walls, yes after pushing 'y', maybe that button isn't working properly I don't know. Could not be pushing it hard enough. But the game seems really good, can't wait to play it more.

And I have played and beat ninja gaiden and all the expansions, at least that I have seen. So it's not just simple frustration at a difficult game.. Loll

Ive never got stuck on a wall, hmmm.

Thats saying something as Im playing on both difficulties and progressing thru the game that way. 14 missions and no problems, other than the dumbass ghosts Im stuck with laugh.gif

Maybe you need a new controller? huh.gif

By the way, I got stuck behind a turret last night. Right after having used it.
It was some sort of bug, but a simple reset fixed it.

My biggest disappointment is my teammates on single player. Their A.I. must be set to I.U. (infinitely useless). How difficult is it to duck? Even when I set their attack mode to "Recon," they fully expose themselves and fire standing up. When they're getting shot, they just stay there and take it. Then they cry, "I've been hit!" The only time I use the "regroup" command (down on d-pad) is after I've cleared the board of enemies, and it's safe for them to walk freely.

In the last level, it starts off with a bunch of guys firing at you. I send my guys to a safe location around the corner, and then I proceed to kill all the enemies in the area without their aid. Done. Now that the area is clear, I'll send my guys to another safe spot where they can shoot without being harmed. Done. I'll leave one guy standing (after I've shot him up a bit) and think to myself, "I have three fully healthy teammates. They can surely make themselves useful by taking out one Mexican with 30% energy left." Wrong. That crippled Mexican (regular soldier not gunner or marksman) will take out those useless ghosts in a few shots. I'll stand there incredulous. One guy with 30% energy and a simple assault rifle managed to take out a rifleman, a gunner, and an anti-tank ghost without blinking.

When those idiots engage that guy, there are no obstacles between them. It's a wide open space where it seems the Mexican has no chance of survival. After he slaughters the morons, I'll emerge and shoot him from a massive distance, with the pistol mind you, and he falls dead.

I get sick and tired of going to revive some nitwit computer teammate because he wasn't programmed with basic defensive skills. It's gotten to the point where I just let them die. Fuck them. They're just holding me back. In the last five or six levels that I finished, I've just let them die. I've felt no need to revive them. That's why it's annoying to me when I have to go to the truck and get new teammates.

I can go through all the levels by myself without the so-called "aid" of the other ghosts. What makes this game challenging is keeping those dumbasses alive. Once you realize that there's no penalty when they die, you can bulldoze through the game, and it's a breeze. I'm going through the game on hard first, so when I go through on normal, since there aren't any consequences for killing them, I'll start the levels by killing my teammates. They serve no useful purpose in this game. Ubisoft should have taken lessons from the guys at Pandemic (Full Spectrum Warrior), and let us have control of each of our ghosts.

The other thing that bugs me is that there is no life outside of you and the Mexicans. There are no civilians to be found anywhere. There aren't even cars driving by at any point. It's just us against them without the risk of killing an innocent civilian.

And lastly, it's a very short game. I've been playing it in very short bursts because I don't want to feel like I wasted my $60. Of course, I still feel like I did. The game's fun as hell, don't get me wrong, but you can rent it in the morning, beat it, and return it after lunch.

Yeah but you don't pay $60 just for the single player. If that was the case, they there is no need to buy any of the 360 games thus far. Since you can beat them all in a matter of days. You buy them for the online replay value...

I know. I've yet to get into multiplayer. BTW, Condemned never requires you to get online (it's also short, but not as short as GR:AW). wink.gif

I played the game to fourth level and felt a little meh about it. Two days ago I gave it two more hours and while it was ok on most parts, it never managed to amaze me and get me hooked, so I sold it away yesterday, while it's still worth something.

I didn't have any problems with sticking to walls, and the gameplay was ok all in all. Framerate in bigger showdowns let a lot to be desired, and many textures were pretty darn low-res when you leaned on them. The animations were quite nicely done which added to the realism. Also, I felt the single player movement a bit restricting (there's always this one 'tunnel' you have to follow) and the enemies AI was a bit puzzling from time to time. Sometimes the enemies didn't notice me standing right next to them, and on the other levels they spotted me from 150m away, while I was crawling in a bush at the night time.

All in all an o.k game, just wasn't my cup of tea.

BTW, did anyone notice that when shooting the guys in lookout towers, they sometimes fall down to ground insanely fast, like zip and they're instantly on the ground fifteen meters below? biggrin.gif

laugh.gif I hear ya!

For ghosts that are supposed to be quite and invisible, why are those loud and obvious "shooting-from-the-helicopter" sections in the game? I'm not complaining because it's a lot fun firing from the helicopter, but it's weird that "ghosts" would make such a commotion. blink.gif Would they then be upgraded to poltergeist status? I loved the Single Player, I'm not a fan of these type of games but couldn't put this one down. I encountered a few bugs but nothing that spoilt my overall enjoyment.

Online is a different matter though, it's rubbish. Connections are usually poor and I dislike how you can't stick to walls, it just plays like a standard 3rd person shooter with 1 shot kills.
morgan06
I've never been a fan of this series, but I picked this up after all the hype.

Went through the tutorials, no complaints in controls. I've played alot of FPS games, and am used to getting stuck on things and buttons not working under frenzied tapping.

Didn't even get past the trainyard in the second level, and put the controller down.

The game got dusty for a few days. Then I got my network card and live setup. This game has been reborn and is once again allowed to sleep inside the house. Great multiplayer modes, regardless of who you get stuck with, or who is lagging out the game or getting disconnected every so often. All of that should be a commonly accepted fact of life to ANYONE who has played games over the internet.

Regardless of my lack of interest in the single player mode or even being a virgin to the Clancy games, online play has come a long way since kali.net and I will be shooting as long as there is someone to shoot at.
shodanjr_gr
Two complaints abou tthe single player.

no1 ) Campaign was short (at least on normal). And Carlos Ontiveros' voice acting was crap... Also the last mission was EASY! I mean REAL EASY.

no2) Ghost AI is kinda crappy. Not too bad (ive seen worst) but at times they just dont grasp ideas like not moving into my line of fire, and moving from cover to cover...also, why the HECK are they soooooo inacurate. Ive had a ghost stand about 3-4 meters away from an oponent and just keep firing at him with a rifle without even hiting him ONCE!!!

One complain about the MP:

Spawn camping, which is fucking lame. There's a solution, and an easy one... Keep the fire-inhibition timer at 3 seconds after respawn, but set the invulnerability timer to 4 seconds. This way you can fire at the spawn camper before he can kill you. Just my 2 cents.
Carlo210
Yeah. It's enjoyable with buds (I play with a bunch of people regularly), but it doesn't get me hooked nor is there any incentive for me to start playing other than the fact that I have it.
It's fun with people you know, don't get me wrong, but there's no 'mmph' or anything that gets you hooked.
It's my 'online game' for now, and, while I feel as if I don't 'want' to play it while my 360 is powered off, I do spend a couple of hours every now and then playing with buds online, so it's not worthless in the entertainment department.
If someone stole it, I wouldn't mind that much, other than the fact that I could've sold it and gotten money for it.

I used to play Graw for hours the first week I had it. I remember playing two nights until 4:00 am, but it's just gotten a bit duller every time I play.

I still think it's a great game, fun, and a quality title -- but it's dry.
I'll see if I end up not having any fun at all online with those that I play with. If so, I 'may' try to sell it back to EbGames.

There is some fun to have in this title, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I don't wake up in the morning thinking 'hey, I wanna play Graw'.

Yeah, mine is going in for Oblivion as well. It's the reason I bought the 360 and it's going to be the only game I own until Prey or Gears of War comes out (or something good). Sad I have owned the system since it came out and the only thing I have played through was Condemned. Though I have been meaning to pick up PGR3.

Sad, sad, sad.. but the long wait is over and I can tuck myself away and play Oblivion... well between work tongue.gif

I agree completely. This game is such a great showcase of the 360 power. This game is why I/we got the new generation system. Taken as whole, no previous shooter on any system even compares. I can't imagine being disappointed in the quality and feel sorry that others don't see it, like many of us who do. We all have different opinions on games, but hearing that some have already or are going to trade this in after only a week and half since its release, is madness in my opinion. sad.gif

The AI isnt the best, but that alone doesn't disqualify a title does it? Certainly not in my book. The quality in the SP is amazing for almost all aspects of the game, and the AI issues we can live with just fine.
