I've been browsing these forums for a while now and have decided to try a few case/hardware mods. So far they have all been solderless but I recently invested in a soldering iron and was going to see how easy it would be too add LED's above the controller ports. I was going to go for 3mm LED's and resistors from lsdiodes.com but wasn't sure which wire gauge to go for. They recommended 26AWG but are not stocking any for some reason. I also checked 123leds.com but they only sell 22 or 30 AWG. Which one should I go for?

30 gauge is what I use, but 22 gauge works just fine.

What advantage is there to a bigger/higher gauge?

the higher the guage, the more power it can handle, but there isn't enough power in an xbox to run too much through 30awg.

Thats not correct . using awg the higher the gauge the thinner the wire so it is not capable of running higher power

for a short wire run that is static DC voltage, you can probably go as small as you like. I like to buy the 30 gauge kynar wrapping wire at radio shack. I use that for my ps2 mods as well and it works great, and is inexpensive.
