My friend has a XBOX and I don't know what version it is. His xbox makes a loud racket at the DVD drive, but It may be a suck DVD that isn't a samsung, but anyway it sounds like the DVDs are rubbing across the laser ball.

See if it can boot a disc without the top metal shielding on it.
