my son was playing my xbox yesterday(playing mario 64 on my n64rom) when all of a sudden it powers off on him. i try to cut it back on but the green light comes on and then quickly changes orange, starts flashing and cuts off. it then cuts back on flashing orange 2 more times and then stays off completely. What can i do to fix this problem???

a few months back i had to replace my power supply but that wasn't to difficult and when it happened i knew exactly what caused the problem. my xbox has an xecuter 2 mod chip and a 250gig harddrive. i'm not sure what version xbox i have but it won't be hard for me to get that info.

now i've already checked the fan and the av wires and they work fine.

i pretty much use my xbox for all my multimedia and game playing, so i REALLY would appreciate any help that can be givin. thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out on this matter or at least point me in the right direction biggrin.gif

Flashing Orange genarally means solder spashes on the mobo. But that would be kind of odd to get that error since you've had it modded for a few months now.

let me ask this also, could it be a fuse on my power supply also? wehad a really bad wiring problem in my new apartment that kept making the outlets in the house short out which in turn wouldmake my tv,xbox and dvd player all shut off. this happened about 4 times in 2 days leading up to yesterday when my box finally went out.
could those short outs have had anything to do with my box going down?

there is also a 13amp fuse on the power supply, just by the power plug... However because it is still receiving power I doubt very much that the board has been fried... though mine did when the houses got struck by lightning...

As stated it is more than likely a bad joint, dry or a solder splash

thanks for the help ya'll. i've been checking all the connections and nothing looks out of the ordinary sad.gif . i was also talking to a friend of mine that knows a little about xboxes and he was telling me it may be the power supply as well. his thinking was that because of all the power surges my apartment has experienced that the fuse on the power supply might have went bad. is this possible? i held onto the eject button on my xbox and this time instead of it powering off after the third try it just stayed on but started flashing green and red huh.gif !!!!! i'll try a power supply and if that doesn't work i'll just try to find someone in the philly or jersey area that can look at it for me for a modest fee.
