situation:
i have xbox modded with matrix and swap 2 100 gig hard drives ... they were both unlocked and worked fine.
I decided to lock one of the hard drive using xbox program ... and it said it locked ok.

I go to restart xbox and get 06 message ( unable to unlock hd)

Swap the other 100 gig hard drive and xbox boots up no problem.

Since I can't get Locked HD to be read on Xbox ... what do I do?

I just assumed once it was locked ... I won't have a problem.
it's a western digital 100 gig ... with 3 years warranty.

I have untampered orginal xbox 10 gig hard drive if it's needed ...

I don't know if there is way to unlock hard drive with PC Program ... or taking apart the hard drive and reseting something ... any ideas.

if I opened up the hard drive ....looks like torx 5 .... is there any wire or switch or cmos ... or anything that I can take out and put back in that it will reset the Hard drive without being Locked.

Just wondering....

Also... since I'm under warranty ... can i exchange it ... even though it gives error message 220 meaning HD is LOCKED?

What program did you use to do the locking, also what version?

What revision Xbox do you have?

If you make a ConfigMagic boot disc, it shouldn't have to unlock the HDD. It will boot to the disc, and you can try unlocking the HDD manually from there.

I'm in the process of downloading the program now ...and watched a little video of it on their home page.... great news if this program can fix my problem!

I have xbox version 1.1

And to tell the truth I am not sure what xbox program I used to lock it ... because all my xbox programs were on the 100 hard dirve that's locked.... and my Good unlocked 100 gig doesn't have that program on it...

Hopefully this program will fix it ... I will be most grateful if it does!

ok ... made boot of program

xbox wouldn't start with locked drive in .... so I put unlocked Hard drive in and dvd program loaded

then I switched hard drives and PUT LOCKED drive in and pushed start....
showed info of LOCKED Drive ... seriel number moder numer online key ... ect ... clicked on
Unlock Hdd ... and message came back Unable to Unlock HD ....

So at least I have some info to go on ... but this program doesn't unlock it ... or i haven't figured out how to yet

but I'm farther along that yesterday! any other suggestions!

P.S. Since I see the HDD password in configmagic ... i made a dos boot disk and loaded this program UnLockX.exe Ver 2.0 ... here is the readme file for it. Although I'm not sure configuremagic is using the same number code ( martin gerdes) as the program ... anyone know? Because I can't get it to UNLOCK useing this program or 2 other dos program's I tryed!

looks like whatever program you used to lock the HD didnt use the Xbox's lock code, which pretty much means your screwed cause unless by some miracle you can remember what the code used to lock the drive was there is no way to unlock it - config magic grabs the lock code from the xbox itself which evidently is the wrong code (shown by the fact that the xbox itself cant unlock it)

There is no way to unlock the drive without knowing the lock code used - sorry, you have yourself a 100gig paper weight

seems like you a probably right ... unless there is a way to wipe out the sector in hard drive that Locks or unlocks ... if I open up the hard drive... is there a reset switch or wire or whatever that makes it Virgin Again!
If not... I'm screwed!

I understand why software might be hard to find that unlocks Hard dirves.. because Servers could get hacked easily... but ... maybe there is a switch or something inside hard drive that would erease it .... like cmos battery does for pc.... but i'm just thinking OUTLOUD... as I exercise using the Useless 100 gig Hard drive!

lock code is on the drive electronics unfortunatly - writing 0's to the whole HD wont do jack - but you cant write 0's cause the drive is locked

maybe i'll pack it away ... and a few months from now ... something will develop that will work to unlock it ...
