The game shipped yesterday, so I'd expect people to begin picking it up today. I was hoping someone could give me a quick mini-review. What I'm interested in most however, is the vertical sync. Every other Ubisoft title on the 360 has displayed some nasty screen tearing, as did FarCry on the PC with v-sync turned off. I have this game on pre-order, but I'm not sure I'm going to pick it up. The v-sync (or lack thereof) will be my decided factor.

I never tried Far Cry for XBOX, is it similar to Halo 2? Not that they compare in quality, but as far as fast paced FPS and online excitement. COD2 online is more sniping and sneaking and I haven't tried GRAW online yet because I really want to get good at the controls first. Are the weapon sets similar to Halo and how about the matchmaking?

I'm not familar with the screen tearing you guys are reffering to, but graphics aside, how's the overall gameplay?

is this the same game as the pc version just souped up?

if so i go and buy rumble roses instead.

I'm in Australia, picking it up tomorrow (tomorrow starts in 40 mins), the 30th.

Pre-ordered it and am looking foward to it. Loved the first one, the multiplayer was great fun and the map editor, wow, talk about replayability. The graphics were good for the box, but with the 360, i cant wait!

Including the original with predator is a great idea, really get 2 games in 1, which is awesome. My friends never got into the first one much, but i loved it. This is gonna be my GOTY (i've had the 360 for 6 days ), unless i get COD2, the demo rocked my socks!

I'll report back this time tomorrow with a bit of a review if anyones interested. And no, sorry, i have no idea about this vsync, dunno what it is

Far cry looks so good to me bcos pd0 didn't live up to my expectations, too try hard futurey and tacky.

I can't seem to get an answer on the screen tearing issue. I think I'm going to pick this one up anyways. I never played the original FarCry, so it will be a good experience for me either way.

Just incase anyone interested didn't know, the predator content is LOCKED on this disc until you beat the original insticts campaign.

i was thinking of getting it but after hearing the content was locked it kinda turned me away. ive totaly played out the pc version on max settings on everything. dont wanna run thru it all again.

then why dont u get it for the original campaign then?

huh? i have already played thru the origonal campaign like 3 times on the pc, dont know if i can do it again

I do beleive that is true. I played it at a gaming night, ppl from ubisoft were there. We played a bit of far cry, from the menu, it looks that u must finish the original story first, but then go onto the new one. They have to put the old one in somewhere, and it'd be dumb to put it after.

And hamwbone, the reason this is called far cry 'instincts' predator, is cos its different to the PC version, completely different. Same engine, but completely new story. I havn't played the PC version, probably should cos my PC would support it, but it does have any of the feral abilities, or as i like to call it....Tyrannaprah! (when u get the 'evolutions boost', doesn't sound a fricken thing like the word predator)

But from the multiplayer, graphics were awesome. I actually got a kill in to a guy who played this game everyday in his lunch break! It was 7-1 after a 5 minute time limit, i did ok to get one though, considering his job.

all i have played so far is like 5 levels of the xbox version so far but the graphics do look considerably cleaner&sharper"graphics im baseing this off the xbox levels as thats all ive played so far" then the xbox version the enemys to me at least seemed to be smarter then the xbox version all and all im happy with it

I don't like Yahoo's quote though, because it's a bit of a disappointment to be in hi-def when the textures are the current gen, blurry crap.

Well, I took the plunge and purchased it yesterday. Here's a quick minireview of only the instincts section. I've yet to unlock the predator content. This is the first time I've played FarCry on any system.

Graphics: Well, it's a port. As long as you realize this before you purchase the game, then you will be happy with the graphics. It has the best water we've ever seen in a game, and the lighting and shadows are real nice as they dance across your gun. The draw distance is far, and occasionally a few parts have the same breathtaking effect that oblivion does in the vast expanses. The models are really blocky though... I don't think they redid any of the characters. Also the textures are fairly low quality. Resolution is ok, but specular and bump maps are absent.

Sound: This game has damn good sound effects. The ambient jungle sounds really bring it to life. Sounds amazing in surround.

Gameplay: It's very hard to aim. Even though there is a sensitivity adjustment, I just can't seem to get it right. It's going to take some getting used to. Besides that, the character movement is good and I'm definatly enjoying the experience. If you haven't ever played FarCry, I'd recommend snagging this one.

Multiplayer: Haven't tried it yet.

Oh, so far there has been NO screen tearing. The framerate is outstanding as well. Ubi finally got one right.

You are not the only one. The free look in this gamer is very bad compared to 99% of first person perspective games. It goes from slow to very fast and there to be no in between.

I played some Halo 2, PDZ, Condemned and some other first person perspective games to compare and they all control 100% better than this game.

Hmm, dunno whether i want it anymore But from the multiplayer, it looked good.

If you said even a tiny bit more, i would've changed my pre-order to graw, but will still get far cry. If it sucks, i'll take it back for EB's 7 day gaurentee.

Gamer Nerd and Multiplayer Uber Geek are probably the 'worst' looking achievements there, yet the ones only the people who like the game would get. Finishing the game on all difficulties (at least u can change it this time!) and 80 hours of multiplayer, which will be easy i reckon!

EB does not let you return games once they have been opened except for the same game.

If I could I would go get my $$$ back.

EDIT: I just saw you are in the land down under. In the US you can't return the games you buy :-(

Yeah here at EB, if we 'don't like' a game, or finish it within 7 days, we can take it back and swap it for suttin of equal or lesser value.

My friend used this to our advantage for new games. Get them on release day, take em home, rip em then take em back. Scungy really, but eh.

If i have to take it back, i'll get cod2 or graw, such a hard choice though, they both look awesome!

After logging a few more hours into this game, I've decided that I really enjoy it. I've become used to the aiming, and to be honest, it's alot better than PDZero in that department. I also checked out a copy of FarCry on my buddies Xbox and the difference in graphics are extreme. I mean HUGE. People who are saying the graphics are the same must be playing the PC version with settings on high. Also, the Multiplayer is fun. Very fun. Lots of players, and an infinite amount of maps (thanks to the sweet map editor).

This game has been recieving alot of negativity since it's release, which i find suprising. I think alot of people are quick to write this game off because the graphics aren't "next-gen", like they did with gun. If they'd give this game (or Gun) a chance, they'd realize that it is has great gameplay and is well worth it. Regardless of how the masses feel, I'm really enjoying this game and the MP is great enough to prevent me from trading it in anytime soon.

I love the game. The instincs is like hte xbox part but with much better updated graphics. The prediator part is competely different and on it's own. And entire new game. Can't get that on xbox. The game probably looks as good if not better than the PC...at lest the predator part. Dont know about character blockyness....I can't tell. Maybe the so called graphics expert can see it but I can't. THe game lighting is very nice. Lots of trees and jungles feels like an actual island you are on. Very lush. Your not gong to see incredible next-gen graphics but way better in the graphics department than on the xbox, but comparible to the PC.

AI: Even on normal mode the AI is incredibly smart. If they see you they will come after you and they are fairly accurate, more accurate on harder level. If your good you can sneak by them easily.

Controls: Having AIM help turned on really helps here but it's not perfect but ALOT better than not having it turned on. It is difficult to aim accuratly with the right stick at times but you kind of get used to it after awhile.

If you never played far cry, try this game. I had it for the PC for the original version and it was awesome. For the 360 you get two games in 1. Worth it.

Hell, it's better than Dyansty Warriors, condemned and some other bad 360 titles. Not a rent game it's a buy game.
