Okay here's the problem,

I've got my xbox 360 connected to my pc, with a straight ethernet cable, the pc connected to my Motorola Surfboard Sb5100 Cable Modem using USB via Blueyonder. I can connect to the internet no problem, but xbox live fails at the IP address stage. I have set up ICS thru the network connections.

This is what I get when I use Ipconfig.

Any ideas what I have done wrong?

Thanks

It looks to be a network problem on the pc end, not setting up a proper dhcp server.

Change the IP of the LAN on ur pc (the one connecting to the xbox), set the IP to be 192.168.0.1 and subnet to be 255.255.255.0 as always. This will allow your computer to be a better ICS server. Make sure the ICS is shared too tongue.gif as u said.

On the 360 end, if dhcp doesn't load, dw, i've never been too sure about that and ICS anyway, but on the 360, u can set the settings urself. As follows:

IP: 192.168.0.2 (Same range as PC)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0 (usual)
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (PC IP)
DNS1: 192.168.0.1 (Also PC IP)

The gateway and DNS is where the 360 looks for the internet connection, pointing it at the computer will then point it to ur cable.

I have setup many networks in my time, from my knowledge, that should do the trick. Enjoy!

Okay here's the problem,

I've got my xbox 360 connected to my pc, with a straight ethernet cable ...

shouldn't you be using a Crossover cable?

Also I completely 2nd what flashfreak said...

I'd recommend using a manual configuration on the Xbox 360 and be sure to set the 360's gateway to the IP address of your PC.

Really the most ideal setup would be for you to go get a router... they're cheap money and it's definitly worth it.

Oh, i completely missed that tongue.gif U need a crossover

Cheers Flashfreak,

I'm busy downloading the BF2 Demo as I type this. Thanks for your help, btw no need for a crossover cable, the straight one is working. biggrin.gif

Yeah crossover cables aren't needed for the 360 because it auto detects whether a straight or crossover is needed and compensates automatically.

ok here is your problem you need a router

here is why you cannot direct connect the 360 to a cable modem for some cable internet service providers you need a setup cd but the setup cd sets up the connection to work with the pc and a router not a direct connection to the modem if you change the ip address that the cable service provider gives you the modem will not connect sorry this includes direct connecting the 360 to a cable modem
