We are having a halo party next weekend and are having at least 32 people possibly up to 48 and we were wondering what the maximum number of people able to play at a time is on system link? Whats the max that can play?
Also we are going to have 4 routers with 16 ports total how can we hook them up?
Could we do this:

4 people on one xbox max, 4 xboxes max. So 16 total.

Or if you're playing Halo 2 then it's 16 players max with up to 16 xbox's.

Oh ok so there is no possible way to connect 32 people at once? Could we use XBC and do it?

Just have two seperate games of 8 on 8.
You would need to know how many Xbox's you are setting up to see if one router/switch/hub would be enough. If you had the maximum with 4 players per tv/xbox that would require only 8 ports. If you don't have an 8 port network device, which most general users do not, just split up the two 8 vs 8 groups on one network device.

16 players max, 4 xbox's max. You can use a hub to connect them together. Whether it be one made for the xbox, or a router.
In response to the question above: Halo 2 only supports 16 players and won't be able to go over the limit, ever. (Unless some "1337 modder" cracks it)

Off topic: Just to straighten this out... Halo 1 supported four xboxes max, four people max for a total of 16 players max, what about Halo 2? I'm pretty sure it's 16 players max and 16 xboxes max. If someone has had a LAN game with five or more xboxes connected, can you tell us?

Yes what you said is correct. I've had 5-8 xboxs connected at one time for halo 2 several times. I've also have had only 4 connected for halo.

16 xbox's max for Halo2. Hence why 16 people can play at once on xlink.
