I clicked on the pre-order link and checked the description and it says it is just a Matrix add-on.

Is it possible to also use it as a regular mod-chip by itself? It seems that it would be, based on the review, but the description on the pre-order site was confusing.

Anyone know?

it's a standalone chip which can be used as matrix add-on.but it'll work without one.
