I heard reviews that the game was utter crap. If you have the game for 360 please post your review. I am a big baseball fan and I was hoping to have at least a playable game of baseball this year.

Thanks in advance!
tonloc79
Thought it wasnt out till tomarrow? Where have you seen a review by the way?
XBANDGUY
The reviews I am refering to are from the PS2 and Xbox versions of the game. Being that this game is a port over it will probably be pretty bad as well. Not sure if the game is out today or tomorrow. But when and if anyone buys this game please give a review.
KAGE360
i thought i remember reading of how this was going to be a great baseball game. all of the previews seemed positive that the exclusive 3rd part lisence was in good hands. im sure it cant be that bad, the 2k series has been one of the best baseball games for years now.
XBANDGUY
Thats what I thought.

From what I am reading on different message boards the game is barely even playable and feels like complete garbage. But I will give it a rent and see for myself.
fastTOE
yea, i've read good things about this for the 360 and am really excited about it too, so hopefully it's playable.

i think it shipped today, so it should be out tomorrow. maybe if we're lucky ign will review it tonight or something, but probably not. So, i guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow,....

like the topic starter said, once someone gets this(tomorrowish), immediately post your thoughts, we're waiting for some feedback on this.
Dragula56
I thought that I had read something somewhere about this not being a true port. I thought that the main gameplay aspects and stuff were being ported, but that the presentation and graphics were being designed more for the 360 hardware. The presentation is the thing that I have heard the most gripes about. Not too mention that the swing mechanic is brand new and may take a bit to get used to, like the shooting in the basketball games. Either way I will be getting it tomarrow and will enjoy it, cause if I want a baseball game then I don't have much choice.

Getting it right after work, looking forward to it

Just about to mix a drink and pop it in, ill let you guys know how it is soon!

It's much better than the xbox game was, it runs smother by far. Graphics are better by far. My first game played won 3-2. I like it better tha last years.
tonloc79
The game has some serious freezing issues. Im not the only one. Reading over on 360achievements.com and so far everyone who has commented has had an issue with the game locking up! grr.gif
mafatumatt
Got the game at 1 today, been playing it straight thru since then (5.5 hours) with my friends..

enjoying it a lot and no freezing issues....

ah 360 game number 9...
tonloc79
Ive tried to play 5 times and its froze 4 times on me grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif grr.gif
I guess ill go return it for another and see if it fixes the problem but it freezes every time right in the middle of the 1st inning?
Tito2k6
Mine keeps freezing up too. Usuaully in the 3rd or 4th inning (between innings). I've only played at the new Busch Stadium so far. Totally f'ed up.

PS My X360 has had ZERO problems on other games. This is definately game related. mad.gif

Three Good things about this game:
Stadium graphics and fans (fully animated, even to the point as some are walking around in outfield bleachers)
Commentary (Joe Morgan and John Miller provide the best baseball commentary ever in a video game)
World Baseball Classic (fun game, even if the rosters and rules aren't 100% correct)

Three Bad things about this game:
Gameplay (It's just terrible. I know some people may enjoy it, I don't. I generally play MVP because the gameplay feels 'connected to what you see on the screen. In MLB2K6, you feel as if you have to anticipate what button to hit before it's time to hit it. Really screws with timing on hitting and on fielding. Baserunning is beyond disconnected.)

Facial likeness (Hardly any of the players are close to the facial likeness of the players they should be. MVP last year on the XBOX looked better as far as facial features. 2k should be ashamed of themselves. As for player models, ridiculous. They tried to simulate cloth and ended up with what looks like fat rolls in the middle of every players uniform. They're arms and legs move but the upper body doesn't. Just really awkward. )

Animations (Throwin, Running, hitting, pitching. Not close on 'signature stuff' and you've got outfielders 'short arming' throws from the outfield fence all the way to home plate. Of course, they throw it hard but the animation is that of a flick. I tried turning a double play from a short stop moving towards second base. He loaded up on the throw to the second baseman standing 5 feet away. Obviously couldn't turn it.)

I spent about 6 hours playing it today. It's fun in some parts, annoying in others. Some stuff is really better than other baseball games of years past, but alot of that is outweighed by gameplay and animations.

It's not worth the $60. But, if you REALLY need a MLB game for the 360 and don't mind the things I said above, go for it.

deacon187

Mine came from EB. So far all I've done is swap it with a new one. When I called they said they haven't had anyone call yet with complaints. I'm sure by tomorrow the story will change.

BTW (for the previous poster) I have a premium & my harddrive is ALWAYS attached.

Question: Could this be a finacy DVDROM? Does the 360 sport different ROMS like the original XBOX did?
I find it odd that people from diffent part of the country are having problems while others, just down the street, aren't. unsure.gif
tonloc79
This is fucking bullshit, SHAME ON YOU 2K SPORTS! Ive tried 2 different copies and both lock up every time. How the hell can you charge us $60usd for a game that is halfway complete? The core game is fine but where the hell is the polish? Id be nice if i paid $50 for a 9 inning baseball game but fuck, i cant even get past the middle of the second if im lucky!
janzik
I picked my copy up from EB this afternoon. Initially it froze while trying to connect to Live. It said it couldn't find my profile and was going to create a new one.. then froze. The 2ksports forums suggested the formatting the hard drive option. Since I didn't want to lose my Oblivion time I just tried deleting the MLB2k6 memory item. I made my VIP profile different from my gamertag. Next time it locked up while I was in the other room and it was in Demo Mode. After rebooting again I was able to start a game but it locked up between innings.

I may format the drive to see if that ungodly beast Oblivion is interfering, but I doubt it....
The 2ksports forums are just slow and filled with "this game sucks" / "game keeps freezing" babbles...
Good job 2K....
deacon187
im in the middle of GRAW ATM but when im donr im gonna delete my mlb profile and saves and try again, ill post back in a little while, forget this try removing the hard shit cause what good is a game if you cant save it
deacon187
still a no go after deleting my vip profile, game froze in the middle of the first inning, no way im reformatting my hard drive screw that, ill try another copy tomorrow, if that doesnt work i want a totally different game
Hardcore Legend
I've only had the game freeze twice, other than that it's played without major freezing problems.

Want to know how much 2kSports cares about their MLB liscense? They didn't bother to put the Cooperstown players portraits or face scans in. When it comes to the MLB current club of the St. Louis Cardinals, they have a pinstripe down the pant leg (haven't had since the 60's) and red away caps (haven't had since the 60's). Apparently they chose not to check the MLB style guide this year or any of the last 30 years when putting this game together. Great job 2k!

No lockups/freezing at all, played a good 4 hours straight in my season last night. Overall the game isnt the best baseball game, but it is fun.
XBANDGUY
Ok let me break down the 360 version. From about 6 games online with a buddy of mine. I have not played the offline game as of yet.

Player movement / fielding

The player movement at first seems stiff and somewhat unresponsive. But after about three games I realized the player movement is pretty realistic. You have to keep your player movement under control otherwise you could turn a single into a triple. Holding down the right trigger gives you a speed burst. The arms of the players are pretty realistic. I don't have any issues with that. The only thing I don't like is sometimes the players just feel very sluggish in their reaction times.

Pitching:

I like the pitching control in this game. You first have to set your pitches breaking point and then catch the circle on the way back down around the ball for accuracy. You will understand what I mean after you play it. There is a learning curve in regards to how much break each pitcher has on his pitches. Pedro Martinez has a lot more break than say a team’s fifth starter. You must pitch realistically. What I mean is you need to throw balls and pitches just off the plate to induce grounders and pop ups. If you throw nothing but strikes the scoreboard is going to get slanted pretty quick.

Hitting:

I only have used the stick for hitting so I cannot speak on the old style button mash. When the pitcher is just about to stride to the plate you press back on the right stick and hold it until you think the timing is right and just release the stick to swing. If you want to swing for power you do the same thing but instead of letting the stick go you press up on the stick to take an uppercut swing. You can try to guess pitch location by pressing in the left stick and holding the "circle" to the area you think the pitch will be thrown. If you guess right you will see the pitch location in red. But it is nothing like that BS slam zone from last year.
It took me just about 4 games to finally get the timing right.

Base running:

I am struggling with the base running in this game. I can steal bases easy enough but taking over each runner when the ball is hit is killing me. I know the learning curve is not that great but the mechanics are different from other baseball games I have played in the past. I will get used to it.

Graphics:

This is not a next generation game visually in my opinion. This game looks just like a regular Xbox game online anyway. I have not played offline so I don't know how it looks.

Presentation:

This is worst 2K presentations I have ever seen. When you make an out the next batter automatically is in the batters box. When you make the third out the other teams batter quickly shows up.

Got to get back to work.

If there any questions I will answer them when I get some time.
TallTodd2345
The game often freezes between innings, especially if you strike the opposing player out (either looking or swinging).

I'd suggest not picking it up until 2K addresses the issue. Of course, you can pick it up and become completely frustrated.

I do have a premium and I read about the format hard drive option. However, I don't consider that an option since I don't want to lose my saves.

From the inning or 2 that I played, the game appears intersting however I cannot finish a game.
Tito2k6
Okay, I'm on my second copy and SAME STORY(locks up).

Well, I just disconnected the harddrive and guess what? I completed my first game! It's obvoiusly HD related since I couldn't get past four innings before. What crap!
deacon187
yeah my second copy is the same lock up shit too ! this horibly sucks, at least when i took the first one back they gave me a sealed copy, im just gonna do the same and return it, then return the sealed copy iether for my money back or another game for now, there is no reason we should have to sit on a game until a fix comes out, i would still have COD2 if the damn patch came out sooner but i traed it away for the reason of it just collecting dust, this is a bunch of BS and things like this should be tested and tested again before they release the damn games, this just release it and we'll fix it later shit has got to go

Yea, I'd still have Kameo and Blazing Angels. I'm pissed! Now all I'll have is credit for one game grr.gif

2K6 really screwed the pouch. Even IGN can't get their copy to work.
tNCecil
Thank god mine works /knocks on wood. Ive had no problems with mine at all, probably played 15+ games already. Other then the fact the graphics are crap and controls for fielding+baserunning are ass, its a great game XD
grapejoos
do a quick google search on the issue...there appears to be some problem with the HDD that causes the freezing. don't bother exchanging your copy for a new one, it won't be any different. they claim a patch is coming "soon", but it should never have happened in the first place.

from what i can tell the game has potential but is really rough...the player models are nowhere near what we saw in nba2k6. maybe the textures look better on a standard tv, but they look bad on a HDTV. the pitching and batting seem good enough (though i preferred MVP's swing stick to this), the fielding and baserunning are a little on the dubious side. there's no polish to the presentation, though...textures load late, frame rate drops a lot, the crowd looks bad, stadiums aren't detailed enough, etc. the game might be worth looking at once they patch it (or if you have a core system) if you're a baseball fan, but don't expect to get blown away.

i don't get it, how could they be this careless? did they even play test a game of it on a retail system before releasing it? what is the rush to release a game that could have been great with a little more work? i loved nba and nhl 2k6, extremely disappointed. say what you will about EA releasing rushed games (see every EA 360 game pre-fight night), but at least they run.
tNCecil
lmao go to the Twins stadium (whatever it is) and get to the trivia question thing. Oh man, they used sprites for hte people i think XD
