right click the folder u have the files for the game in, it should give u a size, then a on disc size, in parenthesis
ur dvd WILL fit 4.7 gig...but thats 4.7 gig ON DISC size..
i dont remember the exact reason why this is...but whenever u wanna make sure an iso will fit, select all the files, or select the folder its in, go to properties, an check the on disc size. keep that under 4.7, an ull be good. u might be able to get away with a bit more if u crosslink, and sumtimes, creating an iso from the files compresses it a lil, but, sitll, this is a good method to use as a guidline.
also...im wondering if i screwed my copy up... mine came to like 4.3 sumthing after crosslinking in quix

Apr 17 2006, 12:06 PM
hardware manufacturers present 1 gig as 1000 operating system present 1024.
so 4.7 is really 4.37 4.38 gig at most
as above delete the xmxv with the W in it. then use qwix and tick box for crosslink and you should end up with an iso that is 4.30 GB (4,626,776,064 bytes)

well its too big for any of my discs.

Apr 17 2006, 01:19 PM
You are doing something wrong, using the above method I also got a 4.3GB ISO. Make sure to delete those files *_w.xmv (all of them) and use the cross-link tick box when creating the ISO with qwix, the ISO size will be 4.3GB. Don't measure the size of the un-packed files as the cross-link option will not have been used and will give you a bigger size. It's the layer1.000 ect files and layer2.000 ect files that cross-link as they are the same files, this is what cuts the size dramatically
note... you do not even need to delete any *.xmv files if you don't want to, and the resulting ISO will just make it on a DVD5..@4.37 on the dot when packed.
note.. if you have used a xbe patcher of some sort and it made a backup default.xbe file (probably named something like default_orig.xbe) ..delete it.

i did all that and the image has more sectors than the disc. i deleted the files and crosslinked with qwix and created the iso and its still too big.
original file folder is 4.66gb
after files deleted is 4.59gb
after iso creation and crosslink 4.55gb
my discs are 4.489gb memorex
maybe i should get a d/l disc and say screw it.

Just to let you know (if you havent fixed your problem yet) you have to delete the _w files aswell (or the non _w files if ur not using widescreen mode).
So thats the _w files, and the non default.xbe (the other xbe cant remember the name).
Cross-link with Qwix and your good to go.

This works as well:
1. Ftp the game folder over to your pc, Don't delete anything at all.
2. Use Qwix to make the iso of the files and folders from your pc, but make sure you tick automatically cross-link identical files in qwix.
3. You can use DVD Decryptor to burn the ISO and depending on the quality of the DVD-R discs you are using you wont have to set any overburning using this method.
4. If the ISO wont burn using DVD Decryptor, use Nero 7 to burn the iso and set overburning on in the options menu.

I also tried to the method with using Qwix and overburning, but it is still to big for any of my disks. I get to 99%, then I run out of space.
Can I eliminate any of the other .xmv files?
What type of media should I use? I tried Khypermedia and Memorex, but they come up short.
Any help?
Thanks.

just letting you know that those xmv files labled as W are not widescreen (which is what I thought). If you actually play these files each one is different in terms of video
ex:
attract1
and attract1_w
have totally different videos, they are not the same. This is why the best method of backing up your game would be yto use a dual layered disc (if you can)
I almost deleted them too, until I copied them to my xbox and checked them out using the unleashX dash

Sharkys method worked for me too.
I downloaded the iso, thinking it was for PC (doh!) and when Alcohol 120% wouldn't mount it, it dawned on me it might be Xbox. All not lost since my son has a chipped Xbox. Then when I tried to burn to DVD with Nero 6, it said a 4.7G disc was too small! I opened the iso with Craxtion4, which confirmed it was indeed an Xbox iso, and then extracted the iso to a folder on my pc. Then I hit Google and came across this wonderful forum.
I had never heard of Qwix, but Google has, so I had it in two minutes. I then ran it and used it to create an iso (using the folder extracted by Craxtion - no files touched or deleted), with the 'Crosslink identical files' box checked. Some 10mins or so later it had produced the iso. I then used nero to burn this (now at 4.5G so it fit) to a DVDR. My son popped it in his Xbox and voila - it works a treat.
I only registered with this forum so I could post this reply to let you know how helpful it really is - thanks guys.

ok this sux, i created the iso with qwix and i was like 1mb smaller than the discs i had. i was like sweet! so i set to burn with nero just like i always do. but i usually make the iso with craxtion, but the crosslink in qwix worked to my advantage. so i set to burn and verify, it burns successfully. then i gets to verify and right at the end it stops and gives me an error in the procces. im like WTF!! so i just put it in the xbox and it plays ok, doesnt it read the disc from the outside in.

I don't have the pal. I took the files out that had .xmv all 4 of them. I got it to fit on a dvd, now when I play the mission everythink seems fine. I go into the manor, when I am done and quit. It tells me I have a drit disc ?
Some say they did not have to delete any files to fit on a dvd 5 ?
I left the files in with w.xmv because I have a wide screen tv.
I did want they said to make fit without deleting files, but it did not work ?
Just wounding if someone can tell me if those are wide screen files or not?
Thanks.

PAL or NTSC Sharky's method is just fine..be sure that the files have actually cross linked.. If you are still getting disk too small errors with Nero try burning with alcohol120%. The max size for a disk labeled 4.7 is actually 4.37, but an overburn up to about 4.5 is possible with most (but note: not all) burners.
The PAL with this method and after removing the W.wmv's comes out at exactly 4.34 GB The NTSC slightly smaller at 4.29 GB..

Sharky's method works just fine.
Rip all files from FTP, load in Qwix, check CrossLink Automatically, then rip. UR DONE!
Makes a 4.38 GB (4,706,861,056 bytes) ISO file. No overburning, no disc errors.
I used Nero 7 and a Sony DVD-R 8x, with no over-burning. Worked just fine. No deleting files, no missing videos

what files should i crosslink if i were to use Moogui with the patched XDVDFS Maker v2.2.1 lite by mwg? i don't like Qwix too much.

made 2 coasters with sharkys method (produced a 4.38GB image).
couldnt get it to burn in Decryptor or even Nero w/ over-burning- although for the latter- Unleash recognized the disc in the tray.... just couldnt get it beyond the launch screen. I used Sony DVD+R ver 1.3 1x-16x w/ a Lite-On writer
I do have another brand writer (NEC) in my tower, but dont have enough discs left in my spindle right now to justify trying again... Guess i'll just keep it on my HD til later

Unless.. is this media no good for high-capacity burns maybe?

Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but I just wanted to verify that I was able to back up Tomb Raider Legend to a single layer DVD-R without having to delete any files. I simply used Qwix to create the ISO file with cross-linking enabled, burned the image to a Memorex 16x DVD-R with Nero 7, and Nero didn't even complain about the file size being too big, so I don't even think it had to overburn. For everyone having a problem burning the game, try doing just those steps because it worked for me. I did a straight copy of the retail version of the game.
