Right after I hand him the sword, an orc comes up and I guess tries to hand me something or touch the shrine and my game freezes, every time. Anybody else get this? This is the only freezing glitch I've came across.

Also, when you complete the quest, is it supposed to automatically take the statue of the dog out of your inventory? It's not doing that for me. A few seconds after he takes Umbra, my game freezes.

A LOT of people are having this problem.
TheAbyss13
Alright, so it is a widespread problem. Anybody get passed it yet? Or is this going to be fixed when bethesda releases the patch?
Deftech
Ive gone back 15 times and have tried since it initially happened and it still freezes.

Dont feel bad, atleast youre not alone, and dont listen to others here that are paranoid, some think its our 360s. They know very little when it comes to software bugs rolleyes.gif

I finally got past this stupid glitch. I finished the quest and got that damn dog statue removed! It only took me 30 some odd tries.
This is what I did: I went to the shrine and gave him the sword, and right after he stopped talking, I waited for three hours. Right after that, I waited for three more hours. Again, and again, and again, I waited for three hours. I think I did it around 5 or 6 times. Then right after that, I fast travelled to the imperial temple district (I think). The dog finally started talking and was removed. I didn't move or breathe for a minute. It didn't freeze. That's how I got around this glitch. God that sucked.
Deftech
lol, I wont be bothering, glad you got it to work though.

I forgot all about that dog and how it got there laugh.gif

TheAbyss13
Yeah, I was going to wait until they release a patch or something that fixes it, but I have found that I'm not that good at waiting. Hope you get around it soon.

If its freezing for you, do other things and just fast travel there before you stop playing and try it again. I went back periodically after doing a few other quests and finally it just worked. No idea why. But I did hear others say the same. And if it locks right before you were going to shut it off anyway, you don't lose anything.

HEY ALL. I FOUND AN EASIER GO-AROUND FOR THIS FRUSTRATING GLITCH. INSTEAD OF COMPLETING THIS QUEST, FIND A NEW ONE AND START IT (LEAVE THE SWORD RETURN AS YOUR ACTIVE QUEST), FAST TRAVEL BACK TO THE SHRINE WHERE YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE WHETHER OR NOT TO GIVE UP THE SWORD, THEN CHANGE YOUR ACTIVE QUEST TO THE NEW QUEST, THEN TALK TO THE SHRINE. THE DOG WILL BEHAVE NORMALLY.

CHEERS ALL!
BoNg420
yea mine freezes. I think you are supposed to talk to one of the followers, then go in front of the statue, then talk to it say no, then immediately drop umbra and then fast travel and you should see the dog statue go away, i tried this and it worked but then it froze on me. I guess you arent supposed to move after fast traveling but even if you wait still it freezes.

i can verify that this method works. i just tried it and it worked the first time. i rested for 3 hours 6 different times and then fast traveled to the waterfront and everything was fine. now when i go back to the shrine, the dog statue is there like normal.

every other method i tried did nothing for me so cheers. beerchug.gif

And exactly, how are you resting at the shrine?

well actually i meant waiting... you know, by pressing the back button. wink.gif

as soon as youre done giving him the sword just press back as soon as the game lets you and keep doing that without letting the game progress time itself. pretty simple actually.

What do you mean are you talking about the guy that wants you to give him the Umbra? Does the game freeze for you guys or is it still in motion just locked into talking to the dog mode? It is simple, just go talk to the leader of the believers and then he will say go take the sword to him. Wait a bit and a message should come up. Go to the shrine and tell the dog fuck you and keep the sword because the helmet sucks.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean you are hitting the back button beside the guide button?

yes i pressed the back button and chose to wait for 3 hours. i did this 6 times and then fast travelled to the waterfront and all went well.

theres another quest I have a problem with myself, i dont know if anyone ran into this problem its the one where you have to use some spell on some people at some dinner party, well when i go there not all the people are there and also after I do the spell the game freezes.

SOLUTIONS: I had the same problem with the XBOX 360 Oblivion Clavicus Vile / Umbra turn in. I saved right before I talked to the Daedric statue again to complete the quest. I decided to keep the sword (you can give it back and take the mask if you want-- mask adds +20 to personality, and is really ugly, especially for a girly like me). The game would always freeze about 15 seconds after talking to Clavicus Vile no matter what I did. I searched the Internet for hours, running back and forth to the game, trying different methods of getting around this problem. Only ONE method worked for me and I'm so happy I could cry!! After talking to the statue and chosing to KEEP the sword, I fast traveled to EAST CHEYDINHAL GATE!! It worked! The dog talked to me, and the dog statuette was removed from my inventory.

Here's some methods that worked for other people, but didn't work for me:

*After speaking to statue (Clavicus Vile), hit your 'back' button on controller, and "wait" 3 hours. Do this 6 consecutive times. Then fast travel to Water District in Imperial City. If you have never used your "wait" feature, test it out a few times and get familiar with it, it's a very handy tool!!

*Fast travel anywhere over and over for a few minutes until the dog statue removes from your inventory (it will say it has been removed in the top left area of screen).

*Go to the shrine, ACTIVATE a different quest besides the Umbra one, and talk to the statue. When the dog starts to talk, fast travel to the Imperial City Water District.

*Get the Umbra sword before you activate the Shrine in the first place, then talk to the Kajiit (the kitty person at the shrine standing there) before you talk to Clavicus Vile. Although anyone who is reading this has probably already started the Daedric Quest before getting the sword, so this one is useless to most people.

Sorry there were other hokey methods I tried out, but I am so tired, I forgot some of them. If NONE of these methods work for you just search around on the internet, using key words Clavicus Vile, Umbra, and game freeze.

Well folks, hope everyone finds what best works for their system with this glitch. I have heard of LOT'S of people getting around this glitch. Don't sit around and wait for a patch. You just have to see which way works best for you! Good Luck smile.gif

This is a common problem. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Clavicus_Vile#Bug

Waiting for 3 hours six time and then transfering to waterfront works but sometimes the game freezes after the
statue is removed,go to cheydinhal east gate instead of waterfront when that happens. And don't touch remote for 1 minute as usual.

Waiting is like resting but you can't level up that way. If there are no enemies around you can press the back button to the left of the guide button and wait for however many hours you want... it looks just like the start button..

Also, im not paranoid about the system doing the glitch, but i did get a lil shock through my contoller and my tv made a little pop sound...
i also think it's lame that none of the regular xbox games gave THIS many probs. Can we say scam? "let's make it a tad crappy so they HAVE to pay for downloads if they want a decent game.....-.- they should make it as good as possible and then add new stuff..not half @$$ it...

Umm..... you do realise that you are commenting on a post that is 2 and a half years old, and you are complaining about a game that has been out even longer......
