Hey folks, I am having some strange issues here. It seems that when I join many games for some reason when games start I get booted out. This happens when GRAW games start. I can talk to everyone in lobby. The game will start, as soon as I pick my weapons and move then I get booted. This also happens in Perfect Dark, and Burnout. I have done some research and opened ports needed for XBLive. I have put my XB in DMZ. I just dont know WTF is going on. I am on the verge of tossing this M$%**^$^$@&) out of the window. Please help.

My 360 used to disconnect from live randomly, so I got a new router and it works fine now. You could try a different router and see if it helps.
kezor
yeah best bet would be try to find a different router, if not I would contact Xbox Live,
TheIceman72
What router do you guys recommend? Those are not cheap, so just going out to try one that works fine is not an easy task. I just picked up a Linksys WRT54GX2.

Whelp with a little research (thats bullshit) and some phone calls this is what I came up with. I am sure you folks with the same issues are gonna be pissed at this as was I.

First you need to run the XBLive test. The very last option on the list is something called NAT. Well when I ran mine it said "Strict". Well after reading the info on the NAT setting on my xbox it clearly says it does not like to be on Strict or moderate. Well after some research online I confirmed that to be true. Then I made a call to linksys to figure out how I disable this "NAT". Well low and behold after spending about half an hour on the phone with some transvestike I was told to (....here comes the kicker) disable firewall protection. Well I checked the disable button on my router. Then hit save. Then ran the XBox Live test again and low and be fuckin hold now it says OPEN. What kind of Bullshit is this M$. I need to put my whole fuckin network at risk to run XBlive and not have issues. I guess M$ thinks people have an XBox 360 on a cable modem and nothing else. Are they retarded? I have damn near 6 computers and a roaming laptop in my home. Now I gotta disable the firewall?

What do you guys think about this?
TheIceman72
Here is the official document from MS about your NAT needing to be OPEN. I am sure MS chose to use the term NAT for a reason. Because if they told everyone that to use XBox Live with no probs you needed to disable your Firewall. People would flip a lid.

So what do you guys think?

I have an open NAT and my wrt54g has its firewall on.

So either use a firewall on your computers (recommended anyway), or learn about port fowarding

Once you forward the correct ports, then check your NAT. There are a bunch of posts on which ports to forward and how to do it.

Well I have every port that is needed on my router forwared to the correct ip address. I still get the message saying my NAT is strict. Only way I was able to have it say NAT = Open was to completely drop the firewall protection. Come to find out that some routers actually support turning off NAT and still having the firewall protection. What I am going to do is get a router thats certified by XBL. My cousin has the dlink 4300 gaming router and it allows you to do exactly that.

Please dont try to talk down to me. I am not some retard kid. As far as using firewall protection on each computer, I dont do software firewalls. Those are truely useless. If you knew the people I do you would agree. Any software firewall can be hacked. Hardware ones are much much harder to hack through. If you did read my original post I did say I opened the correct ports the xbox needed me to open. Well that did not fix any of my dropping issues nor has it helped a many of my friends that have the same issue. Nor has it helped many many people on XBL. Basically to funtion correctly both the Host and the users need NAT turned off. I am sure there are millions out there that have no clue that needs to be done. I asked for help on many many sites and i had to go to bills site to get the answer. As you can see I did find the exact tech article.

If your such the networking guru, then why are you comming on here asking for help? Why don't you ask some of the people you know to help you. I wasn't trying to talk down to you, I just have seen this many many many many times before and didn't want to type up a huge how to guide again. Again, I have a wrt54g running dd-wrt with the firewall enabled and it works fine for me. If it doesn't work for you then there must be some other error. Either way im out.

To not waste space and a new topic, i got dissconeted earlier today for the first time. My NAT is open and has always been. This happend pretty much at random. My router is fine. When i went to troubleshoot connecteion it goes through everything but xbox live and stops there. I restarted my router and everything works fine now. During this epidemic my pc went online as normal. Anyone have an explanation for this?

For the people complaining about having to disable the firewall protection: My Netgear routers have all gone from Strict to Open when I switched Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) to the on setting. It supposedly lets systems like the Xbox (or 360) request ports to be forwarded to them without the end user explicitly telling the router which ones to do. I don't know if or how the UPnP setting works on a Linksys router, but look for a Universal Plug and Play option.
Morlok8k
Yes, UPnP is automatic port forwarding. it is very nice. It only port forwards when needed, not constantly.
