I have read some conflicting information and
would like to get a straight answer from someone
who knows what they are talking about.
Can you change your eeprom with any eeprom?
Or, does the eeprom for a 1.5 need to be from a
1.5? 1.1 to a 1.1?
I have a friend that wants his Xbox modded, but
wants to keep using Live. I don't want to screw
his Xbox up by using a wrong eeprom.
I understand the eeproms need to be NTSC for
me.
I have never done this before, obviously, and
want to get it right.

I have changed Eeproms before and the only problem that I have run into is that a 1.6 cannot be used on a 1.0-1.5 and visa-versa.
P.S. not sure about 1.6 to a 1.6b.

Your xbox will frag with your mod turned off if you do not use the same version eeprom as your xbox is. From my experience of using a 1.4 eeprom on a 1.0 xbox. I just took a copy of my buddies 1.0 eeprom and and doesnt frag anymore with chip off. Just make sure your hdd is unlocked throughout this proccess.

I have done this to like 4 different xbox's and have not had the problem that he says he had.

Thanks for the responses. I will be doing
a softmod, so I shouldn't run into any of
the chip problems.
None of the guides I read mentioned anything
about versions. I have read in the forums
that it makes a difference. I just don't
want to end up with a brick.
