From Xbox Live's Major Nelson's blog entry
Place your face in 'Oblivion':
Download the
FaceGen Modeller 3.1 Demo, scan in your own headshot, and the software will analyze your face and return the closest values on those face customization sliders. You know those sliders, they're the ones you spent hours playing with in 'Oblivion' as you tweak your character to look JUST right. Give it a try...scan in your own face and see what it looks like on an Argonian's body.

From what I understand, it
does.

You won't get the texture, but you'll get the faceshape/profile, etc.

The
output of the program are "character creation slider positions" that you simply need to manually copy across to the X360 Oblivion character creation sliders during character creation.

This is awesome. And do excuse me but to do this will I have to start a new game? I'd love to do this, looks freaking awesome, but losing hours of game play is something I don't want to do.

I suspect so, as character creation only happens at the start AKAIK.

Very cool, can't wait to check that out. I'm already 45 hours into the game, but I'll start another just to create the character and see how close it looks, I might also use the player for some quest I don't want mine doing (killing to get in the bro hood, stealing, etc.).

If you complete the Arena questline you automatically get invited into the dark brotherhood
But then I suppose you still have to kill people once you're in it.

That's really cool.
(Being in the dark brother hood doesn't stop you from doing anything else, and it has some of the cooler missions. As long as you don't get caught killing people it's fine, and in lots of cases the guards have been paid to 'look the other way').

How can you enjoy oblivion without killing or stealing.

Nice find, PP.

How often do you guys look at your character's face anyway? I only ever see my character when I open my journal, and even then I never look at his face. I just glance at the armor/weapons he has.
It's a great enhancement for the game, but it seems rather pointless considering you hardly ever see your character's face. Maybe it's just me, but I would better appreciate a mod like this for a fighting game like DOA or Soul Calibur.

No doubt. They should have had just a big square block for a head with no features (since you rarely see your characters face, anyway). Then they could have used less polys to increase the frame rate.

jk...

I just did it with a picture of myself! It works really well. Just wish that I could save it now.
Here's the picture I took (yeah, it was taken 1st thing in the morning

: hence the "just woke up look")

And here's the result from FaceGen:

Apart from the tatt on my forehead, it looks great. I love how it picks up the texture from the original picture.
Another added bonus is you get to see how you'd look if you were bald!

Looks good in the program with the texture but how does it convert in game for the 360? Probably only average.
amb7247
Apr 29 2006, 07:51 PM
wait! You can get the shape of your face for the 360 but not the texture? Can this work with the 360 at all? And what hkind of texture can you apply if you get the shape on the 360?

I havn't been able to get home to try this yet, but I am curious on just how you get your face onto the 360 to begin with.

Look at the rightside of this screenshot I took. All those sliders are the same sliders that you see when you create your Oblivion character.
Therefore, you can use this software to create your face, then take a look at the various settings, and transfer them over to your Oblivion character. Settings such as "brow ridge", "chin forward / backward" and "cheekbones high / low" appear in both the FaveGen software and Oblivion. My guess is that Bethedesa used this software to create all the game characters.

the thing is mark, in oblivion it doens't give you the values to accuratly adjust the sliders you kind of sort of have to guess.

Mine's coming out to look like my dad. I didn't use a very accurate photo (nor did I use side shots), so yeah. I don't have a digital camera, so I'm using one from my webcam that I took a while back.

Haha, that's really good!
What's weird is I made my race Wood Elf and apart from the pointy ears the guy looks a tiny bit like me. Its not much like me, but there's enough similarity that you might think its my brother or something.
I'm about 100 hours into gameplay so I probably won't bother with this...seen as my account is on my mates Xbox and getting to the stage I'm at took 5 weeks.

You sure it freezes? It does take a while (~20mins IIRC) to process the photographs into the 3D model.
