ok first off i want to thank the guy who did the six button genesis controller vga mod @ xerxes3rd.net.. he beat me to a vga tut so he gets credit for that.. i will however elaborate way beyond what he did. to start i will show a tut on a genesis six button, a nes , a snes, a saturn, a sega mater system, an atari 2600 and an atari 7800 controller..

first thing you need to know is my wire color pinout:

------- BLUE -------------------- +5V

------- EXPOSED WIRE -------- GROUND

TP63 - RED -------------------- LEFT TRIGGER

TP19 - PINK ------------------- BACK

TP64 - GREY ------------------- RIGHT TRIGGER

TP18 - BROWN ---------------- START

TP13 - BROWN/WHITE ------- UP

TP15 - WHITE ----------------- DOWN

TP16 - TURQUOISE ----------- LEFT

TP17 - ORANGE --------------- RIGHT

TP69 - GREEN ----------------- BLACK

TP72 - YELLOW ---------------- WHITE

TP71 - RED/WHITE ------------ Y

TP70 - BLACK/WHITE -------- X

TP68 - PURPLE ---------------- B

TP67 - BLACK ----------------- A

take the female end of your vga cable cut it and very carefully strip it like this
IPB Image

now take apart your fatboy controller and remove the memory card casing and shove your vga cable in the bottom memcard slot like this
IPB Image
IPB Image

Now go to here
anduse the 2 pics to find the solder points on the fatboy controller.. he does not show the l and r triggers but you can find them really easy. remember use my wire color scheme not his.. otherwise my whole tut is a waste of your time.desolder the 5 pins off the bottom usb memcard and snap off the memcard port
IPB Image

now that you have the fatboy controller done it is time to do the old school controllers.
on the old controllers you may need to remove the old chip.. also removing the old wire pins is optional you can just snip them off. ok the fastest and best way to remove a chip is with a heatgun or a blow dryer..once the chip heats up enough you can easily pry it right off without damaging the solder pads
IPB Image
and if you choose to completely remove the old wire pins you can use a desoldering iron (my personal choice) or a desoldering braid. otherwise you can just snip the wires off
IPB Image

now on the rest of the tutorial all i am going to show you is the controller and its circuit board with the color wires that get soldered to each one.. light grey represents the bare ground wire.

Bump and if you could do this with a smaller 6 button sega saturn controller that would be really awesome of you.

africamagical
thanks for the great tut,
where did you get your vga cord?
the ones i have lying around i cut up dont seem to have 14 wires,
Is it because they arent SVGA?
in any case i dont want to go out and buy a few, destroy them just to find the same problem.
pimpmaul69
the ones i got are 15 wires.. they are from bestbuy.. they are vga extension cables..if you have 14 wires just dont use the 5v wire... i dont use the 5v vga even though i installed it to the vga port... i have several turbo timer chip mods i made but dont have a controller that i can use them on
xboxuser5
too cool have a matching set of neo-geo stick's too?
pimpmaul69
im working on getting the neo geo sticks..will post in tut when i do
ClintiePoo
Have you done anything with N64? I realize it's very unique and has lots of buttons, but it would be nice. Thanks.
pimpmaul69
i wont do n64 too much for one cable and the make an adapter 4 the xbox for it already
xboxuser5
any Idea of how or if it can be done with a controller S? I don't have any duke's and don't care for their bulkness like holding a brick while playing lol if not I may grab a duke just for a adapter use do you know of any pin-out's for the S controller and is it possible to hard wire a xbox cord into a snes or sega controller or both? so I could just plug them into the console like they were made for it or is that never been done yet?

I also have built a 4-player arcade board built with happ arcade button's and joy's is there a pin-out how I could mount 4 xbox controller pcb's and wire them all into the buttons and run 4 coard's out of it?

the ultimarc Ipac-4 and the xbox adapter would work but they would cost alot more then 4 pcb's is all but they make it that much more simple too so it is give or take I guess

Nice! Do you think for the future you could get a blurrier camera and maybe rub som vaseline on the lense before taking pictures? j/k tongue.gif

Wow, I didn't realize you could get a N64 to Xbox Adapter. Where would I find one?

i dont remember if it was for a ps2 or xbox.. but if it is a ps2 then you just plug than into a ps2 to xbox adapter

I see a lot of PSX/N64 to USB adapters, but no N64 to PS2 ones. I have a dreambox to use a PSX controller on the Xbox, so all I need is a N64 to PS2 converter to make this happen.
ClintiePoo
I still can't find it. Are you sure they make it?
son_of_paco
Where is the adapter for psx to Xbox?
son_of_paco
how about duck hunt gun?
pimpmaul69
QUOTE(son_of_paco @ Jun 3 2006, 04:55 PM) *

how about duck hunt gun?

i did a duck hunt gun once.. the only way to do a zapper is to gut it and get a cheap small xbox arsenal light gun and customize that in it.. i dont have it anymore... i posted that mod years ago...
K-MeTAL
I just got my snes controller all done and it works great
Thank you very much for posting this tutorial.
pimpmaul69
glad to help tommorrow i will post the neo geo arcade stick, the turbo grafx controller and the psone non analog controller

Can Anyone Help with the DUKE pinouts that will work for this mod???
pimpmaul69
i would do it but my camera sucks balls
xboxuser5
yeah if possible I am interested in the button and joystick pin-out for the controller S or duke controler

I have a actual arcade board I made with quality arcade part's and would like to wire the happ joystick's and button's to the controller pcb and then I could use the real arcade stock on the xbox or even stick the usb dongle connector on it and use it on pc with the XBCD driver's proved in the tools section.
King13p
yeah can you use an S type controller. I have everything on my table all scattered. I am stuck on trying to get the memory card slot off the board. If I can't use s type I will go to EB tomorrow and pick up a fatboy if needed. let me know, thanks.
vernonjr
im sorry, but i gotta ask as well if anybody can help out with the fatboy pinpoints. thankya.
King13p
yes, the site that had them is no longer working, if anyone has the pinouts can you please post. thanks
Agrooreo
Bump for no response to a s controller pinout. Following alternate paths and bumping so i dont loose. Wish everyone had more time for xbox. tongue.gif But thats life right? Cant get mad about that.
King13p
I've soldered a few wires, Completed the nes controller and all I need is an answer for the duke, I can't seem to find the solder point for Up, Down, And Left. I see the name of it on the board but they don't show any points. Can anyone help? here is a crappy image of where it is on the duke.
IPB Image
Right in the rectangle pointing left is where it says TP13, TP15 And TP16. Can anyone let me know where to solder those wires to? thanks. I'll try to post a better picture as soon as I can get one.
King13p
Now I got a bad link for some reason, and I don't know how to edit posts so heres that image,

well, after doing tons of searching, I found this tutorial. http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/amiga-connector.php It shows where to solder the up down right left buttons.
My Bloody Valentine
I'm currently in the process of making one of these mods with a SNES controller, only I'm trying to do it with one of those shoddy Street Fighter Anniversary pads. The soldering points look simple enough, but being a complete newb to electronics, I have no idea where to solder the groundwire in the SF pad. Do I need a multimeter to figure out where? Can I solder it to anything isolated, such as a screw? I can even take a shot of the PCB if that'd help.

Any help would be appreciated. This is a bit of a learning experience for me.
xboxuser5
yes ground is ground you can ground it anywhere a ground is
King13p
After Screwing up a few Test points, I Tried to solder a wire onto one of the test points but after screwing up and having the wires accidentally get pulled off I tried to resolder, but my problem is there is no more solder left on the board, am I kinda SOL on this or is there a way to get the wire on board still? Being there is no solder left on the board it means solder won't stick to it. Any help will be appreciated
thanks
