Hello

I own a LG, GSA-4163B, anyone knwo if it suppot Bit setting, i burned 5 Verbatom DVD+R DL and all of them did not work for me, and i changed the burner FW to A105 and still no good. i am stuck and i don`t know what to do. i am thinking of getting a new Pioneer burner, but i don`t know if that will help.

I just saw in Nero, that teh Book type is set to: DVD+R Double.

I have a Samsung S-SH162L burner. As far as I can tell, I can't change the bittype settings. Well, I CAN, but I don't have any option to change the +R DL setting as is mentioned in the tutorials and the forums. I don't know if my version of DVDInfoPro is to blame but it's the newest one listed on the official webpage. The window that pops up when clicking the "+RW" icon says "DVD+R/RW BookType/Bitsetting (Benq Drives Only)" in the titelbar.

I have three options going across the top:
oDVD+R............ oDVD+RW...............o .......... o............oDVD-ROM

Below that is the following:

Current Settings
MEDIA TYPE ............BOOK TYPE............[Set Current Media (DVD+RW only) ]
CURRENT.................DVD+R DL.............[Set Drive Default (DVD+RW Media)]
DVD+RW.................DVD-ROM...............[Set Drive Default (DVD+R Media) ]
DVD+R................... . ----- . ..................[ Help ] [ Close ]

I'm ASSUMING I need the box that I highlighted in RED to change from DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM. Is this correct, and if so, I'm at a loss. Any hints on how I can modify my Samsung burner or do I HAVE to go buy a new one?

Please post anything that might help, and thanks to everyone.

OK, I know this is a lot to ask, but here goes. I have a 360 with a samsung drive. I don't have any idea how to do all this. Could any of you tell me if there is a step by step guide where to start. I need everything from the beginning. i have a dl dvd burner but I don't know anything about how to do the firmware or make back ups of my games. Any thing would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to end up with a $400 paper weight. Thanks,

I came to this site just like you. But after a lot of reading, I can say I'm understanding everything when before it seemed like another language. I used to think there should be a more n00b friendly guide, but no I know there shouldn't. Just read everything in thet pinned threads. Eventually you'll get it.

FYI... even though my pioneer dvr-111d doesn't support bitsetting... backups work fine
using hp media and verbatim...

what program did you use to burn? thank you, any specific settings. I also have the pioneer DVR-111D TIA for the help

FYI....this tip for bitsetting via DVDInfo saved me from giving up on the whole thing.
First, I wasn't sure if my firmware upgrade went 100% because after 4 coasters (must play in xbox 360 message and unreadbale disc message) I had no luck. I was using Verbatim and Memorex DL @ 2.4x on NEC ND-2510A Firmware 2.18 burning with Record Now....big mstake! I downloaded CloneCD and still no luck. Then, I found this post and downloaded DVDInfo and lo and behold....success!!! I was 2 for 2 on burning backup images with CloneCD and DVD-ROM bitsetting until I came across a bad image and an ISO that won't work. I seem to be having success with the images that are .DVD and .000 not .ISO or any image not 7,572,881,408 bytes in size.

P.S. Any tutorials on creating .DVD/.000 images from .ISO that work?
Just in case you're looking for a deal....I just picked up three 15-pack spindles of Memorex DL 2.4x for $24.99/each from Best Buy. Not a bad deal since the Memorex discs seem to be working for me and are decent quality.

Hey Guys,

Do anybody know, if i can bitset with my LG-GSA4163B DVD-Burner?
I got the newest Firmware A105, but with DVDINFOPRO it is not possible to do bitsetting with this Burner.
I found a tool with with it should work. But I don't know if it really affect anything, when applying.

Can anyone help me?

Thanx

2nd question: Does it means that if it would work, my Hitachi XBOX-DVD Player could read the burned things?
paulo88
HI guys !
Burned 3 coasters then suddenly discovered this "book type".

However having just spent Ģ30 I now find that the Pioneer 111D doesnt support bitsettings ! Is this why I have the 3 coasters ??

Any help or advice would be welcome.

I was able to change the bitsetting on my LG4163A burner. Firmware A105.

I used the DvdInfoPro as instructed at the top. Then used CloneCD.

The disc burned fine and as DvD-Rom.. but when i put it into the X360 it thinks it's an Audio CD.

Any ideas??

Does the new media stealh patch allow burns to work without setting the booktype? Anyone try it?
zebra.x0r
Hi all,

I'm zebra - one of the creators of DVDInfoPro, amongst other things...

I noticed some people having problems with Booktype transgression within DVDInfoPro et al with their Pioneer drives. The best advice I can give you, is as follows:

1. Natively, the DVR- series kernel's do not support DVD+R/DVD+R DL --> ROM booktyping

2. The buffalo and "L" series kernel's DO support DVD+R --> ROM and DVD+R DL --> ROM natively

3. By NATIVE I mean that no user intervention is required when using the L or R series kernel. It will do it automatically unless you FORCE otherwise. The BTF field is pre-set to send that byte as DVD-ROM mode, rather than DVD+R etc.

Additionally, most other Pioneer unit's as far back as the 107/A07XLA have a buffalo variant, if you *really* need it.

All 107/8/9/10/11 unit's have the ability to DVD+R --> ROM and +R DL --> ROM should you so desire. In depth flashing guide for the CURRENT units, such as the A11XLA series can be found here.

Don't hesitate to call on us, if you need help.

Cheers.

You don't have to set booktype anymore with recent firmwares. Good news for us with writers that don't have that feature available.

In Xtreme fw for TS-H943 since 3.1:

(v3.1) Added Booktype overwrite patch (bitsetting to Dvdrom no longer required)

I know it's probably a stupid question BUT.... would this mean that no matter what burner I made the burns with the games would work anyway? And if so, is this only for the TS, or are firmwares for other drives also incorporating this?

I was about to go buy a pioneer 111d for my 360 burning needs, but know I don't know...

How can I tell if my current burner also has booktype automatically set? Please bear with me for I don't have the 360 here yet to try it out.... rolleyes.gif

http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/TSST-launches...DVD-burner.html

Thats the lightscribe version of the SH-W162 isn't it ??? according to this link. So maybe its cross flashable from the TS-H552B.. I hunt and see if anythings around. Even the TS-H552B firmware has been pulled for review from the dangerous brothers site.

Bitsetting on some drives is done in the burning app. With imgburn etc. you pick the drive and set to bitset to DVD-ROM its not like a pioneer which auto does it with firmware mod.

I had a Pioneer 111D then i flashed the firmware twice first using the 111L_819 then the 111L_826 firmwares. I've had a few probs with a variety of DL discs apart from Datawrite (Ritek) until i started to extract and burn using Xbox Backup Creator. Im extracting the originals with a Samsung SH-D162C Dvd Rom with the KREON_V081 Firmware works a treat!!!

Just done 6 original backups, around 50 to 55 mins start to finish!!

NO COASTERS!!!!

When using this method to burn an XBox title, does the XBOX need to have a mod chip for it to play backup titles.
