For those of you familiar with the following screen:

IPB Image

Then the following tutorial is for you!

TUTORIAL: DVD Decrypter Burning
  1. Download DVD Decrypter
  2. Run DVD Decrypter and open up your IMAGE.DVD file in Notepad so you get the following screen:
  3. In DVD Decrypter, using the menu list at the top, go to Tools then select Settings
    IPB Image
  4. Go to the ISO Write Mode tab. On the right hand side you will see a section called Options. In there is a Layer Break category with two radio buttons. Select the second radio button, User Specified. Now, in the Sectors in L0 textbox enter the value that is located in the IMAGE.DVD file after the "LayerBreak=" text. Hit OK. [Because all 360 games need the layer break at the same location, you should only have to set this option once!]
    IPB Image
  5. In the IMAGE.DVD file, delete the LayerBreak text so you are only left with the IMAGE.000 filename. Save the file as IMAGE_DVDDECRYPTER.DVD or whatever you choose and close Notepad.
    IPB Image
  6. In DVD Decrypter, select Write Mode (just hit W and it will go into Write Mode). Then open (File->Browse or click the little Browse icon underneath the Source section of the Write Dialog.) your IMAGE_DVDDECRYPTER.DVD file. [NOTE: If you get a "Invalid or unsupported image file format!" error when you load this file, it means your backup was made incorrectly!]
  7. Hit the Burn button and there you go!
    IPB Image
    IPB Image
  8. Optional: If you are going to use DVD Decrypter to burn anything OTHER than 360 backups, then go back to Tools -> Settings and remember to change the Layer Break option on the ISO Write Mode tab BACK to Calculate Optimal.

Nice job (i hate clonecd(and already have DVD Decrypter installed),
Finally something that gives you errors so you don't waste those expensive DL DVDs

Thanks
geebee
arent clonecd errors just from using an earlier version?

I tried using CloneCD v5.2.8.1 (the latest version) on two separate DVD burner drives [1 BENQ, 1 SONY]. Both gave the same error, refusing to buy a different drive I thought I'd use a more versatile program like DVD Decrypter. Plus, DVD Decrypter is free and CloneCD is not.

why bother with the .dvd.. just rename the image file to .iso and open it and burn

unsure.gif -> happy.gif -> biggrin.gif -> laugh.gif

Well, the reason I didn't take the .dvd out and just rename was because I hadn't tested that as sucessfully working. But theoretically there should be nothing wrong with doing that as the .dvd file just tells the program what file to load. So really, I don't think it would be a big deal, I'll modify the tutorial after I test it working (should work, but you never know, lol).
MrPhunkee
CloneCd works perfect here. This looks like more trouble, but good work

DVD Decrypter is a program I usually use to burn everything. Great tutorial! Thanks!

If the backup was made using wxripper then you will need to use the SS Merger tool to add the ss.bin correctly. Otherwise, you can follow the details from a TUTORIAL that details the entire process of hacking the 360 drive. For the backup portion of it go to Page 9 and start reading sections: Backing Up Games (Isobuster Method) through section Combining the Image & SS Files (Isobuster Method) (including that last section). Then you can follow the steps in this thread to burn the image, or you can use the PDF tutorial already linked to burn using CloneCD.
SniperKilla
vince you can even set dvddecrypter/img burn to all files and open the .000 directly and it burns fine, just burned up farcry with imgburn

can anyone confirm that the dvd decrypter method works correctly...

I've insert an ss.bin into a iso-file.

Dvd decrypter detects this as "good" and i could burn the DVD.

But when I insert the DVD in my xbox360 it only says Reading on the bottom of the screen. I doesn't change to an black screen or giving the 'unreadable disc' error.

Thanks for that tip SK. I hate using CloneCD and and used Alcohol 120% with all my Xbox 1 backup's, so this will help me. I'd wondered if I could do that, just @ $2 a disc I didn't want to try it, lol.

Yes, I can confirm this method works. If you still get an error your SS.bin is probably created wrong (because the image file is valid if DVD Decrypter can load it). So I suggest either trying to find a different SS on the net or re-ripping that from the origiinal.
en4cerathome
I still have problems to use the DVD-Decrypter method.

Now I want to insert a ISO which is definetely ok because many other people have used it. And they could this Iso succesfully burn in CloneCD.

So there must be an error which I can not find.

Till now I could only one time insert a ISO file into DVD Decrypter and burn it. But this ISO was built with SS Merger 1.3 and in the Video options was the WRONG Method selected. Then I could burn the ISO but it was not recogniced by the Xbox. Its only READING at the bottom of the Dashboard.

So for me its just crazy how people get the DVD Decrypter Method working.
Max
With DVD Decrypter I always get the error message: "Invalid or unsupported image file format!" with 2 different iso files that should work.
Anybody knows the real problem with DVD Decrypter?
Infamous
it works for me... must be something wrong with your iso...
Fattysc
I can also confrim this dvd decrypter method works. The first try didn't, but like someone said in this thread if dvd decrypter loads the image then the image is fine and must be the ss.bin. So I found a working ss.bin on the internet and re-ripped\ re-backed up my image, because the first time I used the ss merger and didn't make a back up of the original back up. Used the ss merger with the ss.bin I found and did the burn again with the options set the way the tutorial said to and the back up booted up first try.
en4cerathome
I think I have found the problem of using DVD Decrypter.

A burnable Iso consists of: Video Part + SS Part + Game Part

When I insert only the Game Part DVD Decrypter accept this file.

When I merge the SS Part and the Game Part DVD Decrypter also accept the file.

When I mergr the Video Part + SS Part + Game Part DVD Decrypter does not accept the file.

So the Problem is the Vido Part of the file. I use always a Video - Part which is blanked out ( 00 00 00 00 )

I think here is the problem.

To use DVD Decrypter there must be real data an not only 00 00 00 00 00 00

To confirm this:

Someone who uses DVD Decrypter successfull should look at his Iso with an Hex-Editor and give a replay if this statement is correct.

I agree with en4cerathome

I have made my images two ways.. one with wxRipper, one with xbox360 drive (using c4e's method)...

The images that I make with wxripper work fine (as they have the real video partition and not a blanked video partition). those that are made with c4e's method have a blank video partition, and DVD Decrypter/imgburn are unable to open them (im guessing b/c of the 0's at the beginning). so in order for it to work, im guessing we need to replace the 0's with the a real video partition.

Why the hell would you follow 8 steps to use dvddecryptor when you can just double click on the image.dvd and burn it with clonecd??

Yes, I have both.

DVD Decrypter needs only one step after you set it up to do the layer break correctly. Then you just load up the Image.000 file and off you go. Also CloneCD does not work for some people, I tried 2 different burners and it wouldn't work for me at all (notice the first image at the start of the tutorial, I know i'm not the only one who has gotten it). Also, DVD Decrypter is free, while CloneCD is only free for a limited time.

I'm going to try dvddecrypter because clonecd keeps burning at 2.4x, even though I am selecting 1x. I've never heard of media not supporting SLOWER speeds, might be the case, but nevertheless I'm gonna give it a try... Thanks for the tut.

You should always burn dvd media at its rated speed. Burning at 1x isnt going to give you better results if anything its going to be worse. For those using DVDDecrypter I would suggest downloading imgburn seeing as its made by the same guy and is more up to date than Decrypter.

thats not true at all ... burning at a slower speed will not make any difference in quality and will most of the time give better quality burns.

from what you are saying, if i had an 8x writer and bought 16x media the burns would all be bad.

I just burned a backup that was in the CloneCD format 360game.dvd and 360game.000
I used Clone CD no problem 1st try. Works Great.

I now have 2 more backups but they are in ISO format with just one file like 360game.iso
These are not the old bad images but one of the new 7+GB big ones with built in SS (or so the nfo file says)
I tried to open it DVD Decrypter and go that invalid file error so I decided to try using CloneCD.
Now here is where I think I went wrong because my burn won’t read. I get Unrecognised Disk in my 360 when I try to play it.
I was not sure if the ISO would have the information about where to do the layer change built into it so I though I should make a CloneCD .DVD file for it.

I created a text file like this and saved it as gamename.dvd

-------------------------
LayerBreak=1913760
gamename.iso
-------------------------
I am thinking this was totally unnecessary. Do iso’s have the layer break built into them maybe? I am thinking about burning it again with CloneCD and this time just opening the iso and burning with no special options but these disks are as everyone knows rather expensive. Any advice on burning xbox360 .iso’s would be appreciated.

Thanks

DVD Decrypter will give you an error if it does not find a DVD Label or other data at the beginning of the file, I am looking into a fix for this. As for creating your own .dvd file, yes that was unnecessary (if you are using DVD Decrypter). In DVD Decrypter you set the layer break in the Settings and after that you can load any image to burn. From what you said about an NFO and stuff I assume your copy is pirated, in which case you're an idiot. CloneCd would require your .DVD file to burn correctly as ISO's do NOT have the layerbreak information built into them. If you do not specify a layerbreak and try to burn, then the program will burn the maximum capacity of the first layer (4.7gb i think), and then it will move onto the second layer. This will screw up the placement of the SS.bin and your burn will not work with the firmware hack. So yea, stop pirating, start reading, and you shouldn't have any problems.
michaelboord

Too bad.. .CloneCD really sucks.. make's my Windows (with 3Ghz Duo CPU )
respond really slow while burning.

Would love to use some other App...

Imgburn rejects all my images.. prolly because of the before mentioned 000000's
in the images.

The images themselves burn ok on Clone CD and can be played on 360.

Now to find a way to disable the image check in imgburn sad.gif

Okey.. here goes..

I bought a new xbox 360 core console here the other day and got a free game in the package, when I got home I turned on my console and started the game, only to experience the dvd drive spinning up REALLY fast and making an awefull sound.. but the game still worked fine (PGR 3) just lagged abit in the intro (for 2 seconds or so).. anyways, I thought about sending it back but then, since Im all new to the firmware hack etc, I checked the dvd drive and found out it actually was the Toshiba Samsung drive.. So I forgot about sending it back, opened it up and hacked it.. now to the games..

I bought a bunch of xbox 360 games, so that I have the originals, (that way Im licenced to download the rip's of the internet).

The first game I downloaded was PGR 3, it said in the nfo file that it was just to open with nero and burn the nrg file.. I got kinda worried if this file would work at all, but to my surprise it did, Nero read it, I didnt have to do anything in my settings, everything worked fine! The Xbox 360 actually read this disc better than the original one.. no lagging, no high speed spinning, no noise.. Then I got to the other games.. Burnout Revenge and Ridge Racers 6. These games had one huge file each with the .000 file as well as the .dvd file.. I checked the nfo's for each game and it said the same:
Game Notes: Û
Û o1. Flash ur TS-H943 DVD Drive with Xtreme Firmware Û
Û o2. burn the image with CloneCD Û
Û o3. Play and have fun...

So i thought to myself "dandy.. so its that easy"..

I downloaded the latest trial version of Clone cd and tried to open the .dvd files with the program. I only got "unsupported format or invalid file etc.." So I tried to open them in ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter.. same fault.. I removed the Layerbreak=blah blah line from each .dvd file and inserted the numbers in the LayerBreak box in Settings - Iso Write. I got the same error.. didnt work.. wouldnt open..

So after what Ive understood, its not something wrong with my programs (clonecd, imgburn etc) or my dvd burner (Ive tried three differen once).. now running on an Nec DVD_RW ND-4551A (with booktype DVD-ROM))

So whats the problem here? The video file 00000 thingii in the .000 file? Bad ss.bin? in that case, how do I fix these images? Ive tried to read the "how to backup your xbox 360 games" guides, but I only get confused considering it takes everything from the beginning on how to rip your games with your xbox 360 dvd rom drive hooked up in windows etc.. Is there any guide for fixing broken ss.bin .000 xbox 360 iso images?

Can I just open this image in WxRipper and extract a new image and that way fix it with a new ss.bin and burn it as followed the guides?

I would be very happy if anyone of you guys could help me out here.. I really wanna figure this out..

Im using the latest xtreme_proper.bin from Commodore4eva..

and to the moderators, if Ive broken any of your rules Im sorry, In my case Ive bought every game on xbox 360 from my local store, and only downloaded ripped versions of the ones I got, so I hope I havent written or stated anything illegal considering your rules and regulations..

Best Regards,

wow fixing a problem with a hack, nice

I'm not sure if any of the games with the .DVD and .000 downloaded off the net work, i have tried a couple (that i own) just to see if they would open in DVD decrypter, they didnt and i got the same error, im not really sure what to tell you other then if you can find another .nrg file that would be best (since one already worked) or do the rip your self (i admit it can be confusing to some but if you just go step by step with it you should be able to do it)
pastortom
btw, the reason why I didnt backup my own original games is cause I need my computer to be on 24/7.. no time to reboot and fix and all that.. only had time to hack the drive, thats why I download the iso versions of my games..

and I checked out "Xbox 360 Tutorial: Using ImgBurn to Burn Backups [including fix tool]" and Im trying this now.. if I still need to know anything else to fix my iso problems feel free to shout it out.. or if you know any easier methods..

btw, do i need to insert the ss.bin file all over again after "fixing" the bad image? (following Vince's guide)
soloyo
I can say that this method also worked for me 100% the first try.
ViNCe_V
This method is outdated, use the new tutorial smile.gif
pastortom
what new tutorial? no need for SS.bin insertion? they all come with ss.bin and those made with Commodore4eva just needs to get fixed without any new ss.bin and then they should work?
ViNCe_V
The new tutorial in my signature that has the tutorial updated to use ImgBurn (the succesor to DVD Decrypter) and includes a tool to get your images to be recognized by DVD Decrypter / ImgBurn [you will first need at least one image that is already able to be loaded into DVD Decrypter / ImgBurn first though, ironic huh?]
pastortom
okey, but I already read your post, as I stated in my posts.. so I got confused, thought you meant another new guide..

another thing, are there different LayerBreak in different xbox 360 games? in an Oblivion .dvd file I saw a different layerbreak number =/

but back to the patching and stuff, after the patching DVD Decrypter read the file biggrin.gif:D So im burning it on a Verbatim DVD+RW DL 2,4 X 8,5 GB DVD.. so I really hope this works.. Ive only used Intenso DVD's before.. and it only worked 1 time (9 wasted =/).. the funny thing was that it only worked with the .nrg file..

Im burning this dvd in 8,3x speed now.. it says on the cover that it only supports up to 2,4X.. I wonder if burning at this rate will actually work?!?
pastortom
HALLELUJA!! PRAISE THE LORD!! biggrin.gif:D:D:D:D I GOT IT TO WORK.. Thanks Vince.. sorry for the caps lock.. I burned it at 8,4 X speed with DVD Decrypter and Ridge Racer 6 works great.. and its awesome.. just like on PSP.. (never tried it on other consoles before).. biggrin.gif:D Thanks you ALL!! Deeply appreciated..

Vince, you might wanna add to your guide that 8,4 X speed (on 2,4X dvd discs) actually works if the brand is good smile.gif like Verbatim.. (normally any good? dunno.. DL discs very good though smile.gif

Good to hear that you got it to work pastortom, but thought I'd elaborate on a few points you mentioned earlier.

QUOTE(pastortom @ Jun 2 2006, 02:26 AM) *

No, the tool does not alter the SS on the disc in anyway, all it does is replace the blank buffer space the blank360.iso made with a video partition that you can extract from a backup made using the wxripper method instead of the xtreme method. So once you use the tool to make the image readable by dvd decrypter/imgburn, you are all done, you just burn it.

QUOTE(pastortom @ Jun 2 2006, 05:53 AM) *

The LayerBreak will be the same for ALL of your backups. This is because the layerbreak helps put the SS.bin file in the correct location, since the firmware hack always expects the SS.bin to be in the same location, the layerbreak will always be the same.

What media are you using? Also, in DVD Decrypter, load the actual image file, like IMAGE.000 instead of the .DVD file. Unless you renamed the IMAGE.000 to IMAGE.DVD for some unknown reason. If it's your media, get some Verbatim's, they work well. The Fuji/Ritek have given some people problems.

also, you could try buying a new dvd burner wink.gif I use the latest NEC and they work fine.. pretty cheap as well..

All those writing errors that I've read here are all the cause of the drive and or the media people are using.

I've owned myself another writer and all media is burning well. ( Pioneer D111 )

Before that, ive used 2 other burners: BENQ 1640 and BENQ 1650
Both stopped writing somewhere on the disc. They stop buring with the error Can't write to Beng XXX

Tried different media: Imation, Samsung. Then I tried Verbatim. The writing completed but it wasn't recognised by my 360.
Then I bought a Pioneer D111 and all 3 brands are burning well and are extremely good recognised by the Hitachi drive.

If you wan't to be sure, try Verbatim. If they do not burn well, buy another writer. If they burn well but aren't recognised, buy another writer.

When you try, don't use higher speeds than the slowest speed the disc supports. Also be sure you're using the lates firmware for your writer.
