Hey everyone, Yes here is another worklog from yet again another X-S Member

Aim: To transfer an xbox into a computer case, leaving the xbox and computer fully functional

Things To Do:
- Paint the Case a Pearl Orange
- Install Hip Pad LCD
- Install Blue LEDs as Underglow
- Install Controller Ports
- Cut Window and add Fans and LEDs
- Buy Stuff (Especialy Diet Coke)

lookin good man, I just hope you have a VERY nive soution for cooling becase I cant even imagine how freakin hot it will get in there w/ the xbox and pc running.

I have around 5 80mm fans that im gonna put in there, so coolong will be fine (apart from its gonna be as loud as an aircraft taking off ), although most of the time I probably wont have both of them running unless ftp'ing

Hmm... maybe a good idea if you hardwire an ethernet connection as well. At least you don't have to do much to transfer something!

Nice work though, attempted something like this in a tower, but gave up hopelessly

And I also found 6" Neons for $9 each, im gonna get two blue ones and put them either side of the X's Big Triangles, they are for cars but they plug into the cigar lighter, which from what I've read is 12 Volts, so perfect for the good ole' yellow wire

Ok a bit of a failure but i got somewhere...





I used a jigsaw and used a steel blade, now this shits tough, took me about an hour to get that far
Any Ideas on what I can use to cut, so far Ive heard a Diamond Tip on a Dremel, Havnt tried tin snips yet though, but that will be hard. Just a reminder that this stuff is really thick and is almost like pure steel...

I would use a titanium tipped drill bit to drill lots of holes in a line, just inside the lines you have marked on the case, and then use either the jigsaw or the dremel with a diamond bit to connect the holes up, then a metal file to smooth out the edges.

Good luck, computer cases can be a bitch to cut through.

looking good so far. maybe try some tin snips to make the cuts but then again they might leave an uneven edge. i would practice on something other than your only case. maybe an old one u got laying around.

are you sure you are using the correct jigsaw blade m8? ive used a jigsaw on a old pc case and it sailed through it, High Speed Steel blades you need should have HSS written on them, sorry if you do have the correct stuff its just as i say i had no problem cutting my old and fairly thick metal case so i dont understand why you had so much trouble.

the jigsaw i had was very cheap and it said on the box it would cut steel up to 6mm i think so i wouldnt think your jigsaw would be the problem.

i found a jigsaw much quicker and neater than a dremel, i only used a dremel for the little fiddly bits.

I might use tin snips, then use a high speed sander to shape the edges



Got a top of the range jigsaw, and it came with blades; wood, plastic and steel Ive tried all the steel blades, some work better, it seems that the ones with the bigger teeth work better. Another issue is the vibration going through the case, and my hands

After a painful process with the jigsaw, I am almost done cutting 1 triangle

actually no, no pics or threads, it's kind of been my little secret, i was just going to reveal it when it's done. Actually, we have pretty different projects, even though its the same basic concept...pc and xbox in the same case. You've got the whole oldschool horizontal case/bondo/hip screen thing going on, with windows and such, where as my case is pretty huge, very vertical, made out of solid metal with tons of solid mesh and stuff, so it won't be as easy to modify the exterior of the case, though i'm still going to do as much as I can...If i try using anything like bondo, that would mean i'd have to paint over my pretty aluminum finish But I might end up doing that anyway. But my PC is basically a top of the line PC....and there are going to be 8 hard drives in there (totalling over 2 TB!) when all is said and done haha, along with an ati 1900xt and an amd 3800+ venice core, so there will be MASSIVE amounts of heat coming out of that thing. Good thing I've got...7 120 mm fans installed, with the option of an 8th. But, as much modifying as i may do for looks and all that jazz, I'm still kinda going for a stealth look...Kinda. Maybe. I dunno. I really haven't done anything cosmetic on the outside yet. To be honest, even though I've been working on this for a while, i've been moving very slowly cause i've been mega busy, and I haven't done much other than mod the 616t and install that, mount the xbox and psu on the inside, bought parts, and planned out how I'm going to execute the rest of the procedure. Maybe I'll take some pics in a week or so and toss them up, right now I'm just waiting on parts anyway.

haha, yeah, well I'm going to be able to control the speed of four of them. They're insanely loud full blast, but it shouldn't be necesarry to be anywhere near full speed I don't think. Plus, it's not like I had to modify anything to put them in there. The case comes stock with the capability to house 9 120 mm fans, or 5 120 and one HUGE fan. I thought about the possibility of going to watercooling for the PC, I dunno how easy that would be with an xbox in there though...But it might be possible. But that costs money....And I don't have a ton of that right now. Maybe later. I'm starting to change my mind about that whole stealth thing too....Trying to think up a good possible theme. I'm going to end up having like 4 or 5 switches up top on the thing, going to look like a friggin cockpit or something almost haha....actually i was thinking for the xbox power button i could get one of those buttons with the little red covers that you flip open like for firing missiles in a fighter and stuff like that, could go for sort of a fighter jet themed thing, put sort of blades up the sides which would be like wings, or I could go completely insane and try to make little jet engines coming off the sides that woula ctually be subwoofers or speakers or something....but that would cost some money....And add even MORE weight to it. Argh. Although I do have some speakers around here I could steal from....Could be cool....But could also end up looking super dorky and lame. And, that would be a hell of a lot of work. Oh well. I'll amaze people and Pc and xbox lans haha

EDIT: oh yeah, and the main reason I haven't posted a worklog is because I know this is probably going to take me a while, so it might be a fairly slow moving worklog....Then again, things are probably about to speed up.

Did alot yesterday, Cut out controller ports and cut holes for them, found a DVD drive
So I replaced that old shit one with the DVD drive and painted the DVD Bezel, Fan thats gonna be in the middle, and the faceplate of the DVD drive silver, to prep it for the orange

why not just stealth both the drives behind the original plain drive plate covers.
Use little rubber feet on the pc one so you can eject it from the front cover.

Would look quite cool, looking like its only got a floppy in it, then a blank bezel slides out, in goes an xbox game and woosh.

might look good, but probably turn out dodgy-looking. I will post an update tommorow aswell, when some good shit happens ohh...and if anyones interested, the cake was good

Sorry for no update people, my mum went to Vietnam and now im living with my dad all holidays, so wont be any updates for a while. But I did bring my jigsaw and the top of the Xcom Case, and with the jigsaw Im using now, the blade keeps coming off, so unless I can find a better tool to cut with (anyone ?? ) I might have to take it to a mitre 10 and get it cut

Anyway I bought a new headset and it was a bargain, but I dont know how to test it (anyone again??)
Also bought orange paint (best colour) and I will be spraying the front panel as soon as controller port holes and button holes are properly sanded. Im also in the progress of making a VGA chord mabob thing (that is the scientific term) and wanted to know where I can get:
- a LM1881 chip
- 0.1µF capacitors
- and if anyone has an old Xbox Video chord spare, can you send me a PM

I think you can use a cell phone to test the headset. Just plug it in.

Holy shit dude, thats fucking awesome. The dvd or CD drive what ever that is(the white drive) you can remove the face plate and bezel so sand that bitch down and paint it.

I was searching and posting through and in the X-S forums (as you do when your trapped in your dads office for 8 hours)

I immediatly fell in love again (seen it b4)
and thought helll...I should do this, and then 'ba ting' the little thing inside my noggen went off
I am now going to do the fishnet painting on the Xcom, but im still not sure what colour (I want to have like 2 colours and Orange as my top coat),
Here are some colour choices I came up with:
- Darker Candy Red base, then a light 'fishnet' coat of Orange
- Metallic Blue base, then a medium 'fishnet' coat of Orange
- A Light Metallic Green base, then a light 'fishnet' coat of Orange
Ill think about it, but put in ur suggestion
Only way I can really find out is to test if only there was some sort of ps template...if only

That's looking really sweet as dude! Can't wait to see the finished result! As for cooling, maybe try whats-it-called ... Umm, liquid cooling (I think?). I heard it's good but takes up alot of room . You'll figure it all out for sure though! And I expect to see that thing lit up ALOT after it's done! But if you use cathodes they might cause internal fires

Went out today and bought some fishnet stockings for the painting, and I will be painting it on Wednesday, I decided on the Darker Candy Red base, then a light 'fishnet' coat of Orange idea.
Heres pix if you care:

Oh yeah that's true. But yeah, I guess fans are better, you don't see that much liquid cooling in anything posted on the scene either ... Hmmm *ponders ideas*

An Update **Hooray*** Sorry about shaddy pics, stupid camera...


I Cut a hole for the 1&2 controller ports; the fit perfectly, then I bondoed them in and stuck em in with some super glue and sanded it smooth...
