GRP SELECTOR
------------

Edit the wads.cfg included and add as many entries as you want.

The syntax is very easy:

[name displayed] = [commandline options]

Copy it to the xDuke folder along with the grps and cons.
Next time you run xDuke, a grps selector will be displayed.
If the wads.cfg only has one entry, the grps selector won't appear
and it'll run that entry.

You can add up to 4000 entries.

Here is an example:

AUDIO TRACKS
------------

Only shareware version has midi music. Full version comes with CD audio tracks.
If you want music with the full version, rip the tracks from your original CD with
some util like CDex and convert them to .ogg (mp3s aren't supported)

the \music folder.

AFAIK, XanTium hasn't uploaded them yet but they are available on the "french" page.

Ok, time for my bitches and complaints...


...in which case I don't think I have any. I like how everything is working, not any major gripes what so ever.

The only thing that I found irritating is that I could not configure my buttons how I wanted them. I.E. B for KICK (like Halo), A for Jump, and X for action. Of course after a few hours you kinda get used to this set up, plus I can do inverted look so all is well.

The fact that you allowe the RUN trigger to also speed up the look actually works out great too! At first I thought I hated it, but after a few minutes I was liking it!

Thanks for these! And to think we were worried that the XBox scene would die out when the 360 came along...

I second the request for the ability to remap the controls, but if you don't have the time then don't worry, the controllers are good enough (and we can adjust the Y-axis, thankfully).

Utterly, utterly awesome! DN3D is one of the best games ever, and I bought SW from ebay some time back, but never played it too much, as I dislike mouse and keyboard for gaming, so now I can explore it properly. And I'll have to dig out the ol' DN3D mods too - fantastic.

Come to think of it, if the XBox had a stable, fully compatible N64 emulator, then the XBox would be my favourite console ever. A shame all of them (even the PC ones, aparently) are still so flaky, no disrespect to the authors, I know it's very difficult to emulate the N64, and they have done very well so far. In a few years time, on the 360 or PS3 or whatever, I bet there'll be fully compatible N64 emulation.

Anyway, I'm drifting from my point. I just wanted to say how grateful I am for this, and how much I'm going to enjoy DN3D and SW! I'm looking forward to the release of Painkiller (and maybe Warpath) for the XBox, but these games have me more excited (and these're free, more money left for Irn Bru and chips!).

Ok, the controls can be configured!

Thankfully the config file is in the game's root, rather than some random directory on E:.

I'm half way through both games and still no issues what so ever! Infact I think this looks better in Software mode than it did in GL on my PC!

Agreed VampX. I'm also a Starship Troopers fan.

So I was able to play these last night and I am thoroughly impressed, especially with Duke. Even though Shadow Warrior is my favorite of the two, Duke was in need of a better port. I'm loving the high res modes available as well. Good work, A600.

Now, this could've been a bug or just a fluke, but once I was playing SW and one of the enemies with the uzis killed me and the game just froze and played the uzi sound over and over again. Just an FYI.

Finally, a question for you, A600: Shouldn't SW play the midi music if the CD audio isn't present? If the answer is yes, it doesn't work.

First thing first, thank you very much. Shadow Warrior is an unexpected gift at this point, and finally I can play the Redrum Shining level of Duke Nukem on the Xbox.

I have not been able to get Duke it out in DC or Lifes A Beach to work, using the same GRP and CONs I am using on the PC version of JFDuke. Assuming the list you have above indicates you have Lifes A Beach working, how did you manage that?

When I try to load Duke it hangs at the EvoX screen. When I try to load Shadow Warrior it reboots my Xbox.

I downloaded these compiled versions off of Xbins FTP server.

Any ideas?

I've found a reproducable bug in Duke 3D. If something you have in the wads.cfg dosn't work right (something that will crash you out to the dashboard, rather than start the game) it will rewrite the control scheme in the duke3d.cfg file. (sorry for the length, everyone)

hi everyone
i found a small problem with Xshadow
its not possible to change modes of the weapons
aka rocket launcher to heat seaking or nuke
normaly this would be done by pressing the weapons key on the keyboard ounce the weapon is selected

any advice?

This won't help you if you don't have one, of course, but the game does fully support a USB keyboard.

That config was meant (hopefully) to assist with debugging, not to be used. But as for your problem... you do have the data files from the pc version installed in the same directory as the xbox executable, right?

Full version doesn't have midi tracks so it's impossible to play files that don't exist.

You can assign the rocket launcher key to a button --> sw.cfg

So what are the odds of network support working in duke nukem 3d in the future? Holodukes, trip mines, pipe bombs, shrink rays...a lot of good memories doing deathmatch in that game. Great work!

Incorrect version

Quick question

I installed Duke3d from a very very old disk. Patched it... played awhile, worked great. Then looked and looked and looked for the Starship Trooper mod. Finally found, unzipped and ftp'd the files over. Added the "Starship Troopers = /xsst.con /gsst.grp" line to wad file. It loads, I can play it. I can save it. but when I die it locks up. The reason why it locks up is because its trying to restore from my save game position. When I try to load from the menu I get "incorrect version." What did I do wrong?! How can I fix this to save it.


And will I ever be able to play deathmode with someone =)

Edit: I think I figured it out. I had saved a game before adding the mod. If you save under the same slot it tries to load the old saved game. Solution: Use a different slot, or mod before you play.

Nice ports. Time to dust off my copies of Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior. I guess it is very hard, but I hope multiplayer support will be added in the future.

Nope. HRP only works with the OpenGL renderer

Hey, are you the same A600 that use to post on www.gbaemu.com and was working on the GBC bridge software? It's been a few years, but I helped you write the readme and beta test it. Glad to see you are still around. Great work with duke/shadow/descent btw.

Yes A600, I've recently discovered that the full version doesn't contain the midi files; it was the shareware version that had midi, and that's the only version I ever had so I assumed the full version did as well.

Mas anyone been able to get Mercs 2 to work with Duke? It just resets my XBOX and everything is in its place correctly.

Also when I download MODs they don't contain the same files you have listed in your MOD list example. I get a lot of MAP files and shit, but not always GRP and CON files. Also I sometimes end up with a lot of CON files, where you only have 1 listed, etc.
