I just bought 3 Evercool blue LED 80mm fans, and on the wire there is a red (voltage) a Black (ground) and a blue wire. Is the blue wire voltage to the LED’s?
Thanks

On the topic of 80mm, could someone explain how to hook one up (where to solder, specifically)?

Blue wire is RPM speed sensor. Can be cut.

In response to you PM
This is the place UNDER THE POWER CONNECTOR for 12v (Red Wire) and Ground (Black Wire)

You want to solder the red wire from the fan to any yellow pad and you want the black wire from the fan to goto any black pad.
If you want the best audible sound out of the fans with the max fan speed tolerable with out them sounding like a jet engine you would have to goto radio shack and grab a pack of 47-Ohm 1/2 watt 5% Tolerance resistors and drop them in line with the 12v and you will drop the fans from 12v down to about 7 or 8. Thats what I did. Then again I'm water cooling mine so I'm really not doing the same as you.

I really appreciate your help xboxexpert. Is there any effect on performance once I do this? I don't really care about resisting the power-in all honsty, if this thing took off and went to the moon, I'd be satisfied. What do I do with the left over fan plugs? Just leave them unclipped?
Anyone know any good 80mm fans to get?

I dont think you want 80mm fans for the 360 you would want 60mm. You can cut the blue wires since they are the fan speed sensor wires but dont cut them until you have every thing ran and the fans work. Those blue wires might be something different. If the fans work with the red wires to power then you can safely cut the blue wires. The moon huh...

As for effect on performance...I have one 120mm fan, a water pump, two 60mm blue led evercool fans, 8 LED's, a fan speed controller, LCD and probably some other stuff I forget to mention ran off the 12v line and I have no adverse performance issues.

Trust me, I WANT the 80mm fans. 80CFM. 50Db. Does that not sound bad ass? Hell, I could stick a muffler on that beast and make it louder than a GT500.

It does but I'm not too confident that it will fit in place of the current 60MM ones.

80mm's won't fit in the xbox unless you trim them. Alot, is that what you want?
Otherwise, yeah they would be great!

:\ How much?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835129041Hows that? From what I understand, you are going to have to trim it no matter what.

I'm not sure how much, I havn't done it, I think someone has written a tutorial around here somewhere, all I know is that the 60mm fans fit fine because the stock fans are 60's.

i believe stock are actually like 70mm

Jun 10 2006, 03:50 PM
theyr weird, but yeah say 70, i just measured. 80 would fit with a little careful modification.

I'm going to make a tutorial on putting in some 80mm fans in my 360.
Just trimming the fans might make them fit, but that depends on how big the casing on the fans are. You could just cut off the top part of the metal shielding, which is what I was going to do. Then I realized the airduct wouldn't work as well.
If you want them to fit perfectly you might have to extend your airduct or make some perfect cuts on that top tab

If I cut the blue wire will I be able to put in a fan speed control later?
grim_d
Jun 10 2006, 07:31 PM
the blue wire is an rpm sensor, for rpm monitoring it has nothing to do with speed control. in theory you could hook it up to an lcd to monitor the speed
so in answer to your question, yes you will.

Agreed, unless your getting one with a digital read out display which displays the RPM of the fan, in which case you would need the blue wire to get the speed read out.

I have made a "guide" on how to use 2 80mm fans for cooling the Xbox 360 and posted it at the xboxhacker forum - it called
Cool, Quiet & Ugly
The point of the guide is to lower the noise level by using 19db 80mm Papst fans, however - it would be simple to use more powerful 80mm fans to make the Xbox 360
really cool.
Anyway - I dont think it is possible to put 80mm fans
inside the Xbox 360, but feel free to try
