Full Version: Prey Demo Coming On 6/21

I read on the Gamespot web site that the Prey demo for PC and 360 would be released this week on Wednesday. Has anyone seen or heard any further confirmation on this? yup! this wednesday, alot of major sites are reporting this.... it's a five-level demo and I can't freaking wait!!!!!
Ive been waiting for this game since last month sometime whenever I started to see some demos/read up on some of it. Oh this game is gonna be so freakn sweet, its on my games to buy list for sure. This demo is just going to want it even more

I'm torn betwen Prey and Chromehounds as to which will be the first must have of the summer. Both look awesome and each have what sounds like very innovative MP variations. I have seen no rumour of a Chromehounds demo since E3 but hopefully one will be released before the official release date of the game. I have a sinking feeling I'll be eating a lot of P&Js in July and buying both games with the food money.

And yeah, 5 levels is a HUGE demo! Maybe they are really short levels?

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, other than PGR3, this is the game I've been anxiously awaiting since E3 '05. I haven't followed the hype either. Hype will kill a game for me. The last thing I remember reading about this game was about how it's been in production for ~10 years (probably less), and I read that last summer.
Like Catz said, I wouldn't clear my schedule on the 21st for something that isn't a sure thing. I hope it really isn't a five-level demo. In theory, it's great, but I don't want to ruin the game for myself by playing five levels in a demo. My dilemma is that I'll download the demo but won't be able to play through just one level, and I definitely won't be able to stop myself from downloading the demo.

i dont thin its been in production for 10 years am sure i read in a recent interview they have been working on it for 5 years
You guys who dont want it spoiled, you can just download it for the multiplayer part

It looks quite good (although i doubt that gameplay-wise it will be any different than Doom or quake but meh )

prey's first build was in 1997, on the quake1 engine. nearly 10.

That looks like a really good Achievement breakdown
Difficult enough to make the achievement's worth while but not stupid difficult like "become the best player in the world"
As for the game being in development for 10 years... they STARTED 11 years ago, worked on it for a while then the project was canceled... after a while they picked it back up and re-started from scratch.
It was started in '95 and then canceled in '99 due to major engine problems. Rumors started floating around '02 that the game had been picked back up and it wasn't made official until last year.
They trashed their original engine in place for a heavily modified version of the Doom 3 engine but the story and general game design remained the same as what they'd had back in '99

I like the "We are Next" not as in we the people are the next to be conquered or whatever, but the makers of Prey know they have a great title on their hands.

Wow, I am suprised they are providing 5 levels. Thats not normal for a demo.

well, i needed some files from my original Duke Nukem 3d Cd and wonder, there was a preview from Prey on it,

I was hoping the demo would be out today cause i have the day off of work
gamespot says prey dem coming tonight. there is a timer on the web site. i think its like 8 or 9pm pacific time, not sure, but it def. says tonight, probably pc only and 360 to follow, who knows

Everyone seems so in "awe" over the portal effects. Yes, they are super cool, but doesn't anyone remember Unreal Tournament 1 (on the PC at least)? It had portals in it as well. When I first saw it, back in 1999 I think it was, I would walk up to one, and then behind it, and was amazed at how it actually worked in the game. I can't remember if you could see NPC's or shoot through it though (I believe you could).
So, it isn't something new really. It's been done. However, Prey's does look ALOT smoother and more exciting. I still wonder why the portals were never remade in any of the later UT games.

ive always wondered that as well, but prey takes it to a new level (or so the demos show) basically space and gravity are all variable things, which will throw you for a tailspin trying to remember where you are.
Im trying to not to be really hyped by this game but that is proving to be difficult at this point

i really like the part in the e3 video where the walkway is formed from chunks of rock floating about. gimicky, yes. but cool as hell to watch. i cant wait personally. hopefully its not only pc version tonite

anyone with one good eye that points into their forward field of view (oh and half a brain dont hurt either) would have seen that the gamespot rabble is all about the pc version... helllooooo

If you look at my original post and listed link you will see that the header of the article quite clearly states PC and XBOX360 demo coming out today. Perhaps you didn't see it but at the time of my original post both were clearly listed as being released today Perhaps you should inquire to the whereabouts of that half brain you mentioned.

Well, the demo probably launches at the same time in different countries. I think that that website is in Denmark (correct me if i'm wrong). It launches on the 22nd for them when it's still the 21st here in the states.
If it doesn't come up on marketplace I'm gonna download the pc version. I'm sure it'll run everything in full.

In addition to my last post, I just checked ign.com and on their site they have advertisements for Prey and on the advertisements they say the demo is coming on the 22nd.

Thanks for the update I've been looking around and have seen several sites listing the 22nd also, lets hope this isn't the proverbial carrot leading us along. I have visions of this thread going on until release date (shudder) with the promise of one more day ............
