For about two years I've wanted to water cool something, mostly my computer.... but hadn't had the guts to. So I decided to water cool my Xbox 360 instead

. Here are some of my pics of all the stuff I'm going to use to water cool it. I was mainly inspired by xboxexpert and Dano2k0.
Xbox 360 XCM clear Case and harddrive
Mother board, dvd drive, ROL, and stock fan
Corsair cooling system, and accessories(cooling additive, power cord, extra water block, and quick disconnects)
Koolance water blocks, Zalman VGA heatsinks, Artic chipset cleanser, and Artic silver 5 thermal paste
My progress so far.......(you can't tell very well what these pictures are, but they are of the chipsets(cpu and gpu) and how I just cleaned them)

Please post any comments......

Three fourths of the heatsinks came with the Koolance waterbloacks. And I have a question for xboxexpert.... What did you solder (the piece I posted below) inside the 360?

Thanks in advance.

If you want to do like me you can goto radio shack and convert the wire to a AC Adapter plug for easier access.

Thanks for the fast response xboxexpert, that'll help me tons. I have a fast update of my progress. The only thing that is holding me back from finishing this is a drill and the tubing - I don't currently have either, but will soon if not tomorrow.
-Took off the old thermal paste.
-Cleaned chipsets with Artic cleanser.
-Put Artic silver 5 thermal paste on chipsets.
-Put the waterblocks on the chipsets, and secured them.
-Added the VGA memory heatsinks where needed.

Will be finishing the rest soon and new post will be coming. Add some comments please.
Sorry xboxexpert for coping you. I just love the way you designed your setup.

Go for it man! if you need any help I'm here for ya...Your going to run into the fact that your cooling system is 3/8" and the tubes that you have in your box are 1/4". Your going to need reducers. If you need the place where I got my quick disconnect I can help you out.

Yeah, I was actually wondering where you got those from. I called up Colder products? Cold products? And they said you had to buy in bunches of 25 at least I think. If you could post where you got them from that would be pretty nice.

A couple of questions for you XE.
1. What should I should I do about where to mount the wireless adapter. ie. make new mount holes on the outside of the case?
2. How did you open the Corsair cooling system? Underneath the soft footings?
sicknasty413
Jun 29 2006, 04:29 AM
I know that im not XE, but what i do know is that he mounted his wireless adapter internally, and extended the antenna on the outside of the metal shielding (so theres not much interference) and used a dpdt switch to switch between the USB port and the wireless adapter.
sinickal
Jun 29 2006, 04:33 AM
Yeah I know he did. Lol, I asked this before and I actually think you said the same thing, but no big deal.... I just need to be more specific. Since I have a clear 360 case, what do you think I should do? mount it on the outside or internally?
EDIT: I'm a novice at soldering by the way - so any soldering I do will be limited.

Lol. It's all good sick. XE, whenever you get those quick disconnects priced, I'll send you the cash via PayPal. And then all I need to do is the tubing and enter and exit holes for the tubing. 10ft of 1/4" ID 3/8" OD PVC Clear Tubing should do the job right?
xboxexpert
Jun 29 2006, 03:04 PM
Should be okay... Like I said before 3/8" ID is the cooling system your going to have to rig something up there.

Okay buddy. Told you i'd pull through for you.
Call up Moris Fluid's in NJ @ 201-327-7487 and ask for Justin
Ask him for Quantity: 2 of each of these CPC Part #'s
NS4D17004 = $8.19 each (BODY)
NS4D42004 = $7.33 each (INSERT)
They should be able to provide you with the products. If you still have a problem getting it from them, PM ME.
-xboxexpert
P.S - Ask them for 4 of each if you want to do Totally Disconnect-able hoses so you can travel with them.
example:

P.Sē - Need help installing? Look at my photobucket pictures
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture004.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture005.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture006.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture007.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture008.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture009.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture010.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture011.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture013.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/xbo.../Picture014.jpg^ Yea that last picture has 1/4" hose on a 3/8" Reservoir. It was a hassle getting it on there but it worked none the less.
On the other quick disconnect which is not showen in the picture I used one of
these to reduce the size of the hose coming out of the radiator.
I cleaned up this thread a tad. I don't want it to be a mess like mine was. Please only post relevant posts toward the project. I'm dying to see how this comes out.

Jun 30 2006, 02:51 AM
Heh. I'm still alive, but it's too late to order the quick disconnects from there anyway - It's 10:33PM (local time), I was gone all day cliff diving.

. I only got the tubing installed today and the case ready for drilling (take off security features). I will deffinitely hit that place up and have them send over those quick disconnects though - don't want to have any leakage. Do you have any advice for testing the water cooling before putting it back on the motherboard (is it fine to rest the original heatsinks on top of the chipsets and test the water cooling outside the 360 with the power supply connected to the 360)?

I would NOT just rest them on there. As long as everything is secure blow into one hose while holding the other side with your thumb. Blow HARD....then SUCK hard! If you feel like air is escaping from somewhere find that somewhere and fix it. If you dont get anywhere blowing and sucking then most likely you will be okay. Hell thats what I do.....
Do not flame this post cause I used the words BLOW and SUCK in the same sentence.

LMFAO. I know what you are talking about though.

. So I'll go test it out that way right now, then I will reatach the water blocks to the motherboard. And by the way, I didn't like the way your quick disconnects were connected to the case for one reason - More areas that leaking can occur. So I went to
Home Depot and got some rubber grommets (or gromets, I forget spelling of those). I'll drill the holes and apply the grommets to both the metal case and plastic case. It will help with wear and tear.
xboxexpert
Jun 30 2006, 03:12 AM
When you get these quick disconnects and see how durable these are you will through out your grommets. I had grommets I ended up trashing them. These are hospital grade products thats why they are so expensive. These will NOT leak EVER or break.
Trust me.

A quick update and planning of finish:
Finish will include
-drilling holes
-running power cord out of 360
-assemble quick disconnects to tube/corsair cooler
-dvd drive window?(will need to get supplies for that)
Quick update picture(Got tubing installed)

Post any comments. I was wanting to know what you think - Should I use the clear spindle or plexi glass if I were to add a dvd drive window my 360?(my 360 case is clear aswell)
EDIT: I will not have any picture of my progress until I'm done. And the picture will be very good quality compared to the sh1t ones I have posted so far.

Personally if i were you for the DVD window i would cut one out of the existing case, i don't really like the whole plexi top drives, it starts to look abit... well i think silly.
If you can cut through the top alright then you should have no problem, just think of a custom design and draw it out and cut it up, thats what i did, heres a quick sample pic for you to look at, the rest of the pictures of the dvd drive cut out i did are in my thread if your interested in looking at them.

Oh yeah and for cutting it i'd recommend a dremel and one of those re-enforced cut off disks, they do the job great.
