Hello.
I just get my new XBOX 360, and i was wondering if i could plug it to my audio home cinema soundsystem.
It's a 5.1 ready system, that means there are no Dolby Digital or DTS decoder in it, but there are 6 RCA input (2 for main channel, 2 for rear channel, 1 for center and 1 for subwoofer).
There is no optical input on my home cinema system...
Is it possible to have sound in dolby digital ?
What is the best way to plug them together ?
Thanks for your help.

absolutely.
go to dashboard settings and make sure it is set to "dolby digital 5.1"
optical i hear is a lot clearer, but ive never had an optical compliant reciever... just connect the red and white RCA jacks to your home theatre system and crank it up.

Actually no you CANNOT plug your Xbox into a reciever without a decoder and expect to get Surround Sound.
IoG is aparently listening to Dolby Pro Logic II which despite using analog interconnects still requires a decoder.
I you want to use Surround Sound with your system you'll need to pickup a stand alone decoder or buy a new surround sound system altogether
This is the CHEAPEST stand alone decoder on the market AFAIK Is made by Creative:
