Hey - I've got my xbox all taken apart, and i've got the dvd drive out and taken apart all the way down to the chip, and I can't figure out why the tray won't open.

When i turn on my xbox, i get the green/yellow flashing light, and i can hear the dvd drive struggling to open.

However, now i've got it all taken apart, and can't figure out what the problem is.. I can't even manually push the tray out. Everything seems to be aligned.

Help is appreciated.

On the Thomson and Samsung drives there is a small belt that is used by a motor to open the tray. If the belt slips on the motor pulley (due to age and wear) then the tray will not open. I believe the Thomson uses a PRB # SCX 4.0 which can be found at electronic supply houses. I do not know the number of the Samsung but it doesn't matter; if you can get the belt off and take it to the supply house they have a gauge where they can match it up.

I do not know if the Phillips drives have belts or not.

Hope this helps.
