Set your booktype to DVD-ROM. Also, you didn't need to upgrade the firmware on that drive, as I believe that it defaults to DVD-ROM if you have an OEM model. I own one and haven't had a problem at all...
Also, I recommend using IMG Burn (the successor to DVD Decryptor), for making backups, as it is far superior IMHO, as well as free. You can find an excellent tutorial here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=516786
It has helped me to reduce the number of coasters in my home, and I'm sure that it will help you as well.
