alright i want to get into putting led on my shorty remote and wireless controller, i need to know lots
1. how do i know what voltage a controller is or a remote is?
2.where do i get the led ats and is there such thing as a starter kit.
3. how do i find out What are the recommended milliamps (the desired current)?
4What is the voltage drop of the LED ?

thanks for your time pm me with ansers please.

1. Have a spy about the faq, ive never put leds in my remote or my controller so im not sure, 2.1, 3.3 maybe even a 5v..like i said i don't know.

2.you can get leds on ebay, theres a few links for leds shops in the faq, shop around find your best prices.

3. most leds people use in their boxes have a milliamp rating of 20, some are 30, it varies, wherever you buy them from will tell you.

4.as a general rule red, orange, yellow have a forward voltage of 2.1v and blue, green, white, uv and pink have a forward voltage of 3.3v. But again it varies and again the place you buy them from will tell you.

liquid core wrote a detailed tutorial on wiring and understanding leds. you can find it here.

holy shit batman... planning on buying walmart next?

Buying resistors were totally unneccesary... each LED comes with a resistor bud...

and 5mm leds... no reason for those either..

but ehhh, i dont judge.. so happy modding!!

No idea about soldering... i blow at it.. mainly because my soldering iron despises my existence.

That is a hell of alot of stuff for one case mod. Alot of that stuff was unneccasary but oh well. Hope you don't get sick of lights. About the soldering, I may make a tut on it.

You can't really teach someone how to solder. You just have to go at it on broken/old electronics. You basically have to understand that iron gets hot and solder flows when it is in liquid form. Just practice on some old stuff and then you will start understanding how cold joints and everything else work. It'll come to you, don't worry.
liquid-core
I was just thinking something that outlined the supplies needed and what not.

i admit i bought alot but i didnt want to start the projects and not have what i needed and that info on electricys helped alot thanks GSX, yeah i starting on little things with my soldering plus i got this wicked burn on my finger sux but these led are not going to be for just one project,

ps if you ever need a few leds shoot me a pm ill be glad to hook you up with some lol i did get a shit load
GSX
If you want quantity, then you should of used ebay and got straight from HK. For that money you would of got 10 times more leds(with free resistors)

As for some advice for soldering..Heat the wire, then add solder. Don't melt the solder on the iron. Wait untill the wire is hot enough, that the solder will melt on it.
ocean the funk
how about quailty and where in ebay is there a shop

hey gsx, when you buy led's from the HK guys on ebay, can you specify what type of resistor you would like ???

I've always wondered if i could just tell them "i want the resistors to be this " They always give me resistors i'll never need unless I'm plugging into an outlet lol
ocean the funk
hey when do i need to use a resistor i see you use one in your hd led tut. how can you tell oh yeah how can you tell how many volts items are, my guess if it has 2 aa batts. its 3 volt correect me if im wrong.
ocean the funk
what led are used for the ROL? SMD and if y do i always see them in a strip?

Most led's are the same in quality, and chances are the site you used got the led's from HK too.I'll try to find the guy I used last time, but just search for led on ebay(you will get crazy hits).

I never requested a change. Usually the resistors are for a single led on a 12v source.

Hdd uses 5v. You can find voltage with a voltmeter. As far as stacking voltage like batteries, it get's a bit more complicated then that(but you're right about the batteries).

You always see SMDs in strips becuase that is what they come in (that way they won't get lost). Its merely packaging.

okay cool i figured that but i wasnt sure so i desolder the the ones on the ROL withthe desolder braid or just heat up the solder already one there and just pull it off?
ocean the funk
oh yeah where do you thikn i should get tehm from i plan on buy them in bulk again.

The easiest way to do it and the cleanest is to tin the tip of your soldering iron really well and just submerge the SMD in the solder. Move the iron back and forth slightly and the smd should just come off. This will most likely ruin the SMD. Also, make sure to get flux.

So you're the reason my order took a little longer then normal to get from sickdimension grr.gif

Just kidding tongue.gif but I bet he really appreciates your business biggrin.gif
ocean the funk
yeah that was problaby me
ocean the funk
so back to soldering i just started using my gun again after my wicked burn i didnt want to touch it again but yeah i think i got the hang of it
ocean the funk
hey i see 0603s and 1204s which is what i need for thr ROL? do i need both and where can i find them?
liquid-core
0603s are best to use. Make sure you have flux. Taping half of the SMD down to tack one side helps alot.
