Hi folks, I am trying to upgrade my hard drive.

Here is my problem:
I get an error 13 screen on boot. It reads the CD-RW fine as the menu on the CD-RW boots if I have the original drive connected, but not if I have the new one.

Here are some things which may be helpful:
My desktop is not working, so I only have a laptop hence, I have to use a CD-RW to do the upgrade.
I burned the CD-RW to have 'NewHDEvox1.4' which I found at the usual place.
I used SimpleXISOv03 to make an xbox iso for it.
I have an XBOX 1.6 with a Samsung drive.
I softmodded my XBOX before and that drive still works fine.
The drive I am attempting to put in is as follows:
Western Digital 60 GB
Drive parameters: LBA 117231408 60.0 GB
MDL:WD600AB-00CDB0
set to 'Cable Select'
is working (managed to test it before my desktop died)

Here are some other things:
I occasionally get error code 14 instead of 13, but I think it is just not reading the CD-RW those times.
I softmodded my XBOX with the original drive using MA hence I do not have a mod chip.
The XBOX will read the CD fine when I have the original drive connected. I then (without unplugging but with turning off the XBOX) connect both the IDE ribbon and molex power connectors to the new drive. Then when I turn it on, it gives the error 13 screen.
I got the error 16 screen, but back in the original, turned it on, then back in the new and have not gotten it since.
I have the case open while I am trying it. I doubt it would have sensors to detect that though.

Okay that is every detail I can think of. If anyone could help me with this that would be the best thing ever.
Thanks!

You can't boot a CD to build a new hard drive with a softmodded Xbox.

The softmod takes over after the Xbox is booting. The CD reads before the MS Dash can boot.

In other words, you need to build the HD in a PC or a modded (chipped) Xbox.

Right on. Use the xboxHDM tool to build the HD on a pc (not sure if xboxHDM will work on an HD in a usb enclosure, which is what you would need for your lappy)
