I've read several tutorials on this and it says to copy only 4000-4200 in a hex editor, but I looked in the readme of the latest 3.0 firmware and it says 4000-4400.... so which is it, before I make a complete mess of it all?

My own 360 was happy with the $200 block from $4000-$41FF. However, I bought another on Friday and it didn't work with $4000-$41FF. $4000-$43FF worked though. In addition, I flashed XTREME30.BIN onto the first one this week, copying $4000-$43FF for the key. Worked fine.
So, copy the $400 block from $4000-$43FF and you should be fine.
