Yesterday I flashed my hitachi (46dh) with the GaryOPA Xtreme v2.1 Hitachi-LG. Everything went ok, the batch file said it was completed succesfully.
I've burned some discs with my px-760a on verbatim photo printables (burned at 2.4x). The booktype was set to dvd-rom and I used a proper iso with a proper ss in it (pal version).
When I put these discs in my 360 the dashbord marks them as a game disc (game logo, and "play game" button on the bottom). But when I try to play them the disc is spinning up and there is some noise comming out of the dvdplayer (just like with a bad burned disc). Then it goes back to the dashbord with the error "unrecognized disc".
I double checked the booktype and it's set to dvd-rom. The write speed was ok too, I closed everything expect clonecd that was burning.
So does plextors just don't work with the 360? Or should it be something with the firmware (doubt that cause there were not problems..).
Anyone with the same burner got it to work?

I just bought a Pioneer 111d and everything is working fine now. I guess the plextor isn't able too burn good copies for the 360...

Nah, it could be the firmware revision. However, I agree that the Plextor burners (DVD Burners) are horribly overrated. It's amazing what you can do with drives like the Pioneer 111D, Benq 1640, 1650 and 1655 when you compare features/performance to the cost. It's why you don't see nearly as many Plextor DVD Burners selling as you do Pioneer or Benq.

rubendt, what method did you use to rip your original onto the computer? Did you actually get garyopa2.1 to work? What version of Hitachi do you have?

there goes another plextor to my non working list,

and why do these drives cost so much?

Nah, It's the plextor. I got my Hitachi drive 360 flashed and I was able to run a Halo 2 backup made on a pioneer 111D. When I tried to back It up on my plextor PX-740A (w/latest firmware and Benq tools, book set to dvd-rom)all It did was make the 360 drive clatter a couple of times and give me a dirty disc error. My hundred dollar plextor can't make readable backups for the 360, but my thirty dollar pioneer can, go figure. dry.gif

Oh yeah, and I used Verbatim disc burned at 2.4X

Simple, they built a huge reputation for themselves with their CD Burners. Well known for being a top notch quality drive manufacturer (not to mention they tend to last forever). So when it came to DVD Burners they figured they could slack off a bit and let their name sell themselves. Think of it like Honda. Don't get me wrong their cars are still pretty decent machines but they certainly aren't the durable machines that they were producing in the early to mid 80s when they were still trying to prove themselves to the world.

itismejoshd: I didn't try to create an iso myself, I got some pre patched iso's from someone else, I'm not gonna try rip and burn with my plextor cause I almost know for sure I'm gonna waste another verbatim disc.
I got garyopa2.1 to work, just put the drive in mode B with the crosswire trick, unpacked the firmware directory and runned the batch file. My drive is a Hitachi 46dh..
