Hi all,

My backups are not running at full speed, I heard the difference between the DVD Drive's noise of an Original and of a Backup, and when the original runs, the DVD Drive is noisy as hell...and loading times are a lot faster...

My Backups takes ages to load when there're a "Loading" screen somewhere...

Has someone have the same problem ?

Burner: BenQ
Media: MediaRange DVD+R DL
Burning speed: 2.4x
Burning software: CloneCD
DVD Drive: Samsung, flashed with xtreme firmware (the first one)

If someone has already solved this problem, please help me.

Thanks for any help. smile.gif

I don't think the burner is the problem here. I've burned my backups with both a BenQ DW1620 and a Lite-On 16x burner, and have had zero problems with both.

However, it is true that backups are read relatively slower than the originals. The main game that I notice this on is between my original Oblivion and my backup copy. It's impossible to play the backup since it takes ages to load up.

As far as normal games such as Top Spin 2, and PGR3, the 2 backups that I have tried, the longer load time is barely noticeable.

So to answer you question...YES, backups are read at a slower than originals, thus the reason why the DVD-Rom doesn't sound like a jet engine when loading backups.

I know that the BenQ burners are quite picky with media

My brother used to have one and it would crash during burn if the media wasn't on their accepted media compatibility list.
Not to say thats the problem that you are having but it might be related.

I've been trying to find the link on their site.. but can't anymore.

Good Luck.

update your flash to xtreme 3.1, it fixes the problem

I was going to make a thread with a similar title to this, but i will just ask the question here and hopefully it should be quickly resolved.

The only difference in "speed" between the backups and the originals are when the game is loading, right?

So if im playing oblivion, saints row, dead rising, kameo, dead or alive 4, etc etc, then the only noticable difference is that the loading screens will be on screen longer, right?

Or simply, gameplay is not affected by the slower speeds of the backups (without xtreme3.1 firmware) unless you hate loading screens?

Read the link in my sig peeps. It was geared for single layer media but the same truths hold true for double layer media. Media would be my primary suspect in this case. Shite Media=Shite results. That's like feeding a body builder McDonalds on a regular basis and expecting him to win championships. laugh.gif

You need new firmware, i think thats the problem.
MediaRange DVD+R DL i not so bad (even though verbatim is better)
