Here are the steps I am taking.

360 is on and i boot to dos with ntsf for dos

i type samread 9999999 99999

then i get an error that says MKDIR failed for BACKUPS (does this mean anyhing)

then i get the prompt:

1: IDE Master
2. ICH5 pri mas
3. ICH5 pri slav

i select 2 becuase my 360 is connected to sata 1

get a screen..

flash type sst (sst39sf020)
reading..... 01%Control Break Pressed
Terminate bacth file C:xbox360\samread.bat YES/NO/ALL

have pressed both N and Y and both do the same thing:

orig.bin is not 256k in lengh aborting!

What is going on. What does samread only get to 1%???

Why do you press CTRL-C doing this aborts mtkflash. That's why you don't get the correct file length!
Textbook
Have you tried the manual method?

No, I was trying to avoid the use of mtkflash since my chipset does not need it (accorning to geebee's guide).

It may seem obvious but are there any other drives connected to the mobo or controller card when you are doing this. Technically speaking ICH5 pri master would be SATA 0 on your mobo. You said you're plugged into SATA 1 but you may have just misspoken. Just my 2 cents.

same thing happend too me same error and it was that one of my sata drives happends to be a samsung HD
mtkflash was getting the key from that harddrive no from my sam drive. maybe youre key lenght aint 256 because its not reading the right one.

good luck with ur problem.

I am using an IDE Harddrive and DVDrom. Nothing on SATA. The motherboard 'p4p800-vm' has Sata-1 and Sata-2, no Sata-0.

I am beginning to think that it is a problem with the NTFS-DOS boot disk I have... when I type 'dir' I get errors and have to reboot. I am going to attach a floppy and go down that road.

Question - does the xboxdrive get assigned a drive letter in dos? When I boot with the ntfs-dos cd, I get a RAM Drive and my harddrive.
