Okay, so I got my chip today and I'm taking everything out and I see that the LPC board is soldered up. How should I clear this? Oh and anything will help, this is my first chip and Im so confused.

You have to........ duh, desolder it.

2 choices to desolder are desolder braid or solder sucker. Braid with a little flux is the easiest, cheapest way.

Alternatively you can just leave the solder in and not use the pinheader (not recommended for noobs). THen just do a wire install or a direct-solder install for soldering the chip in place.

get some desoldering braid from radio shack or you can do the wire or direct solder

Desoldering braid would work but I did it with an old washcloth lol. It was probably alot harder and took longer but I was too lazy to go all the way to radio shack. My method is not recommended for anyone but the laziest and most frugal.

I call B.S. on this post. heated solder sticks to the desolder braid because it is A) metal B)heated to sufficient temperature. A washcloth is A) not metal cool.gif not capable of being heated to the proper temp. (it would burn up before that)

Actually... the easiest way to put the chip on a 1.0 is to lay the chip on the board, and solder through the holes... takes about 2 minutes... requires no desoldering(which when an amateur does it can royally screw the mobo... I know, I just had to fix one) and no wires or anything... quick, easy, and hard to screw up

Do you think you can get me some kind of diagram or tut of that? Sounds like a good idea.
HardcorePooka
here'e the install diagram....

It's real easy... just line the holes up on the chip to the solder filled LPC holes and go to town.

Don't have a picture of one right now cuz I already closed up the botched install I had to fix which I ended up doing this way.

But looking at that install guide you can easily get the idea.

The method described is direct solder and its not the best method for the simple reason if it doesn't work you can not see what is what under the chip board. Also if you ever want to remove it you will do damage unless you have the correct skills and equipment.
If you want to do it with no desoldering of the LPC a wire install is both easy and reversible easily. Also a piece of piss trouble shoot
