I've been in a few new 360's, and they ALL have these. They are mushy to the touch, and somewhat cool to the touch. I'm assuming they are some kind of cooling compound/device.

Any cooling experts see these before? Do they have a name? Anyone know if these can be bought somewhere?

Interesting that they are on the bottom and not the top. If they are for heat dissipation, perhaps they channel it out to the RF shielding/chassis?

Ideas?

Old news. I posted a topic about this a while back. Nice pics though smile.gif

Yes these make the metal case VERY HOT to the touch if you were to run it with the bottom of the shell of you will see that the case heats up very fast. They do a great job of moving the heat off the chips though. The top chips are directly above the bottom chips so basically what these pads do is move the heat off the mobo and into the chassis. They are called Heat Transfer Pads.

Sorry about the new thread about something covered. Are these available for sale anywhere? Or somethi g similar?

Heat Transfer pads on Google brings up some very unrelated results.

What version of 360's have these pads>??

is it all samsung drives etc?

ALL new ones I've seen. Some have Hitachi, some Samsung.

Some have DVDrom drives manufactured in Sept 2005, even though the XB360 case manufacturing date was June 2006.

So it's look of the draw again hahaha! Hey considering you fix 360's which dvd drive do you prefer and why?

I haven't seen enough bad DVDrom drives to form an opnion yet. Give it another year or so. Everyones got three red lights of death, thanks to MS's stretched to the heat limit design.
